ok, FWI..i too am about to do this (forced) to pass my Anatomy&Physiology class and i found out that just for my lab group we`ll be using 12 cats per dissection.We have 2 dissections and 3 practical exams where there will also be dead cats, in total is like 40 dead cats just in my group, we are 4 groups in total so do the math. 160 dead cats per semester just for my school. It`s horrible I am already hating this class...so sad!!

This video is great it was extremely helpful in studying when i couldnt make it to the lab. If you are still doing these videos it would be very helpful to see how you got to this point.I cant seem to get anywhere near the seperation you have on your specimen and i have a thick layer of superficial fascia. Again thanks. As a side note i would like to ask what the people complaining would say if their doctor was looking at sketches while taking out their appendix.
i'm at this point in my anatomy and physiology class. it's been a lot of fun. even my dad was interested enough to come in and see. lol. my cat is big, so after a few days, it still has a lot of preservative juice left in it. it doesn't smell bad though. I hear lots of people complaining about the smell. but this year, they were prepared with a different type of preservative, so it just smells like weak hand sanitizer. and there's a lot of connective tissue. more than the other cats in class @_@

Maybe in the future I'll even have my own body donated to science.

All of the dissected cats were donated from a shelter, we did NOT kill them, they were donated post-mortem. For everyone that finds these videos educational, I am currently in medical school and am trying to put together a similar video with a human cadaver. Glad this video could provide an educational benefit to some of you.

Guys, this is for learning purposes, that's why our medicines and such are so up to date, with out the dissection of mammals we would be dying from things like a common cold. I love cats, and I love dogs, but this doesn't affect any aspect of life, this is not abuse, to be abused you have to be living. This cat wasn't killed either, it was Uthinized, meaning it was put down due to injection because the cat had a low chance of survival.

Actually, I'm assuming you aren't well educated because if you were, you'd know that GROSS ANATOMY is best learned through "touch and feel" known as Kinesthetics. Secondly, these cats aren't being murdered, they are cats that are at the humane society most of them have diseases, or are not claimed, and they get put to good use because they must be put to sleep eventually. You are aware that these are procedures to prevent things such as rabies in domestic animals as well, right?...doubt it....

@VampressOfDarkness the animals are NOT donated. They are being bought from biological supply companies. A skinned cat costs anywhere from 27$-60$. Class B dealers breed them exactly for this purpose, but sometimes they steal unattended animal companions from people`s yards or they pick up cats/dogs that got lost. Also, they post "good to a free home" adds online where they mislead the animal`s owners that they will provide a loving home for the animal.

@DeeaCatalina ...Continued is gone, only a vessel remains, so it's not hurting anything..it would just decompose in the ground otherwise. God did create all life for a purpose, and if this helps mankind better understand the body and develop more ways to treat ailments, then why not use the deceased body? The creature is serving a purpose even in death, and I think that's a positive thing...I'm sure if the cat knew that it was helping in some way, it would be pleased.

These cats are from a shelter and they would otherwise just be thrown away. how do you think veterinarians learn to treat your cat. Or doctors learn to treat people. These dissections are a very important part of learning for us in the medical field.
