  • That little rosebud with pigtails at 0:49 is a mean motorscooter. lol. I think her name is Muldowney.

  • borned an raised off the real hwy 9 My grandfather bought many a christmas persentoff the moonshine he made in ashpole swamp of number nine. I still have his shine reciepe from the late 1800s

  • GET"R"DONE & Have Some Fun!

  • The Second Annual Popcorn Sutton Tribute August 6,2011. Maggie Valley Festival Grounds. Maggie Valley,NC!

  • I think the kids drive better then any of us!!!!

  • I like it

  • As a petrolhead myself I have to say tip f----in' top, my old son : )))

  • What a moonshine is? Is that a kind of car? I ask it because I'm from Europe and unfortunately here there's no car culture as in USA.

  • @FURY1958 Moonshine is home-made liquor, alcohol, strong drink. In the US, it was made (probably still is) in the hills and back woods. The business was strong in the 20s, during Prohibition, but continued even after that to avoid Federal taxes and regulation. "Running Moonshine" meant driving the booze to its destination. It was done usually at night in fast cars which could outrun the police. Some of our greatest car racers began as moonshine runners.

  • @smartindie Amazing. Thank you very much for your explanation.

  • @smartindie Eloquently put friend. I could'nt have said it better.

  • @smartindie Infact, it still is made, I think its stronger today though because what my dad gets is so strong it blisters your tongue.

  • Stillted Damn right it's still made!!!!!!

  • @smartindie Haha just come up to north georgia. You can find it everywhere

  • @smartindie : Correct . My grandfather was a Magistrate in South Carolina and quite a few "Moonshine" cases were brought before him . It was cooked in "stills" up in the "hills". Aka "White-Lightning" .

  • @smartindie oh it most definitely is still made lol

  • @FURY1958 Nice video but the opening scene is a bit misleading concerning running moonshing, chevrolet's were never used, they were called "slugs" back then bcause they were so slow with there small six cyl eng. Ford was always the moonshiners choice with its powerful v-eight. In the 1950's they started using chrysler also, but chev's where just slugs up untill the 1960's. A good book to read on running moonshine is "Return to thunder road" the story behind the legend, By: Alex Gabbard.

  • @FURY1958 lol

  • @FURY1958 Moonshine is from right here in good ol' Dawson County Georgia. Thats one of the main things Dawsonville is known for.

  • @FURY1958 Moonshine is homedistilled liquor

  • @FURY1958 ...Moonshine is illegal homemade liquor made in the Appalachian mountains (Virginia, Tennessee and Kentucky) and states like Kentucky, Virginia ect..would build cars that could out run the police over state lines when they were running liquor to state to state...long story. Moonshine-White Lighting are the names for this illegal alcohol. It's mostly 200 % proof. People correct me if I am wrong.

  • @valerysgirl....oh this is how Nascar got it's start....

  • @valerysgirl There is plenty of legal moonshine coming outta Virginia as well and 200% and 200 proof r completely different the most alc. proof iv ever seen came from some Kansas University students and it was 195 proof because at 200 proof its still a mist a lot like a gas form and its only 97.5%... And shine is not hard 2 make! if u can make chocolate chip cookies u can make shine

  • Yeah Man,brings back a lot of memeories.

    Thanks,Paisano

  • Awesome vid

  • Great AMERICAN video. Thoroughly enjoyed it!

  • THIS SONG FREAKIN ROCKS!!!!! I wonder, who originally sang this? I want to find this on CD!!!!!

  • i wonder if it is in any way bad for your engine to actually burn moonshine, i heard that cars can run well with it and it is cheaper than gas but, since it is a bit more acidic i wonder if i would have to replace tubes more often

  • runnin' a car on shine is about the same as runnin' it on alcohol. cause shine is alcohol

  • gasoline is a sullvent (pardon spelling errors) alcohol is also a sollvent , the tubes and gas lines in your car are made for gasoline, all gasoline has 15% mix of ethonal (alcohol/moonshine)

you are right though it might disolve your gas lines which could cause some problems also ethonol burns a little bit hotter than regualr gasoline so your radiator will be working a little harder, and your jets might not be tuned for alcohol, other than that it would run fine

  • @altoids18ROX I thought Ethanol burned cooler than gas, I think gas is 100000 btu and Ethanol is 80000 btu. but I am not sure myself, so you could be right. newer cars can run higher blends with out having problems. I run 50 percent all of the time in my 2006 Kia Spectra, with no problems at all. I think they quit making the hoses that corrode with alcohol back in the 90s, not sure on that ether. got to go, have a good year.

  • but you can tune ur engine to run on ethonol, henry ford origonaly desihned the model T to run on ethonol

  • Awesome!!! I had a 40 Pontiac that would out drag a v-8 55 Chevy. I traded a crop of corn in the field to a moonshiner for My Ride. It had 6 piston as big as the block would hold and 3 two barrels...

  • would like to know where you found this old footage. some of this would be very appropriate in the video on which I am working. I have hours of interviews with the original NASCAR greats, many of which have run moonshine. Junior Johnson for one. Please let me know.

  • I don't usually teach, but maybe we can work something out.

  • @a40sgal go fuck off dude

  • nice video man. well done!

  • Great footage - just didn't match the music (would have been nice to see a Chevy with a 409)

  • Yee Haaww Them ol V-8 flathead Ford's are some heavy runners!! Loved it thanks alot! And may your mash never go bad!{wink}
