You are so lucky to live where a gull and cat can share inter-species communication so nicely. Now the gulls don't have a problem with many diseases, and human dumps are a whole other matter! This gull appears very inteligent and mature and interested in the cat.

@PhineusPhreak Yes, fortunate and so beautiful the living arrangement with other life you have. Do the gulls nest on your roof? I read about gulls and humans in the North of England. In Seattle, the gulls I consider to be "Urbanized Gulls" because they are completely used to human activity and live on building roofs totally protected. Thank you so much!

They do, but not on our roof - they're on a roof just over the road

Scarborough has lots of 'urbanized' gulls even though there are cliffs and the sea just over there.

In fact there's so many gulls in scarborough they're a bit of a problem

Some people put spikes on roofs and chimneys to stop em nesting and there are calls for a cull of gulls :-(

I love the sound of gulls but a lot of people hate it - they are very noisey in the breeding season :-)

The European Herring Gull is intelligent and will completely ignore most 'bird scaring' technology after determining that it poses no threat. Rooftop spikes, tensioned wires and similar are also generally ineffective against this species. I've read about how these birds clash with humans around the coasts of England. If nests are removed the gulls will simply rebuild and/or re-lay, or choose another nest site in the same area and start again.

@PhineusPhreak Near Istanbul there is a chain of islands. Many middle-class Turks live there during the summer to beat the city heat. In May-June, the seagulls return to nest on the rooftops and have their young. It's squawking 24/7, but boy did I love the noise! And the chicks were cute and funny! By July, they were all gone, out to sea to fish and fly -- in short, to live a seagull life.

This is Paula, she has been a regular visitor along with her mate Peter for about 4 years now.

Every year they bring their new offspring to meet us - like they're showing the kid where it can get food and have fun winding up a cat to boot! :-D

We love our 'pet' seagulls :-)

@PhineusPhreak Seagulls are very interested in people who feed them regularly.  They have a memory for feeding like we have a memory for faces, only much more. Gulls have extremely high consciousness levels as you can see by their flawless flight. they can also liveon land or sea, and can drink salt water no problem.
