With a 347 aren't those 165's kinda small? That's a hellacious engine all together, but just think what the results might be with larger heads... Definitely not trying to be an asshole critique just sayin.
And what kinda cam you runnin? Any vids of this beast at idle?
the stock t-5 is probably still holding together for the same reason mine is in my 95....mine doesn't have traction for shit in 1st gear and usually in 2nd either. so since the tires spin freely in the first couple gears there's much less stress on the transmission
ahh gotcha im just curious because i have an 89 gt that still has the stock tranny in there im running a ford racing e303 cam, 1.6 rocker arms, 3.55s, cobra intake manifold, cold air, full length headers, and h-pipe exhaust.. wanted to know how long it might be able to handle the power before it craps out
it'll hold up for a long time if you don't dog it to death. if you run it on slicks with suspensions mods than make it bite out of the whole it's life might be very short.
mine is startin to crap out on me... i got cold air intake, trick flow track heat intake manifold, bbk shorty headers, full msd ignition, bbk x-pipe, 75mm throttle body and egr spacer, electric fans, 15 degrees timing and 3.73s in the rear
Haha thank god for wheelspin...I've been puttin off on better tires for the simple fact that I'm pretty sure a week after I throw them on, I'll be pulling my transmission or axles...
This is pretty impressive to crack the 400 HP mark. Is this a load bearing or an inertia dyno?
On a Land&Sea Dyno my 357W Powered 89 LX Put down 315 horse and 356 Ft Lbs. That was with a .530 lift cam, Milled Stage 1 Trick Flow TW's, LT's and a tune. Very impressive^^^!
Once a hydraulic camshaft is adjusted properly, it generally remains that way, because oil inside a plunger in its lifters maintain a certain preload, or pressure, between the valve and the rocker arm. A solid camshaft uses a mechanical lifter, quite literally a solid one, that has no plunger inside of it to maintain that preload, or pressure between the rocker arm and the valve. Valve lash adjustments have to be frequently made, at the rocker arm, to maintain the proper lash between the two.
wow!!! nice AFR 165's huh? That's some big power from 165's. I'm waiting on my block right now, it's getting notched for a 347 kit from scat. I'll be running Trick flow high ports on it, there 192's, custom cam, trick flow intake, I was hoping for at least 400 rwhp. Are you running a pretty big cam?
i agree, a stock bottom end can handle that kind of power...maybe. the real question is how long. Ive never seen one handle that much. i know cause i have some buddies with fox mustangs that disagree. but who knows
thats actually not true.. only difference that the bottom ends have is forged pistons and they were 87-91 i believe. 93 were definitly hyperuetecnic pistons.. however you spell that lol
but
i have seen cars handle that much power with a good tune. just not for long.
Im not gonna lie, I totally have an erection right now. LOL

do you think 400rwhp would be enough to run high 10´s with a C4 tranny and some semi slicks ?
3O2MuStAnG 1 year ago
@3O2MuStAnG maybe but you would need full out slicks and some hardened axels

AFR's are great heads, but 165's are way too small for a 347. Either way it's a nice car, though.
DeltaElite121 2 years ago
The AFR 165s were put on after the other black fox went to bigger heads.

Whats the diff between a solid roller cam and hydrolic roller cam?
Are the aluminum heads easier to break than the cast heads??
Thanks
