I will agree that 100$ is an underestimate however the 2 boxes of Econobums she mentioned contain 24 prefold diapers as well as (I believe) 4 covers which is enough to last your child until they are potty trained. I air dry my diapers so I have only added 3 extra washes and rinses to my normal laundry and I would say it maybe takes an hour a week. You can make your own detergent for about 10.00 for 6 months & you NEVER use softeners on diapers. You can easily cloth diaper a baby for under 300$.
This analysis of $100 from start to finish is flawed and a lie. The amount of money you spend on a very good soap, softeners (to keep the cloth conditioned) and washing/ drying cost is way in excess of what you spend on disposables. Also consider that you'll definitely go through 12 diapers in less than 2 day, keep in mind the TIME you'll spend (1hr + a day) washing diapers. I own 10 disposable diapers and I think the added cost in cleaning/ time need to be fairly considered; Wish I knew better

No most liners wick moisture away so there is no irritation.

wouldn't the liner cause a diaper rash?
