Absolutely divine song but to be honest his voice is a bit of a let down here, I saw him last week in Manchester and he was note perfect. Still a prodigiously talented man
I talked to Vito, Sufjan's friend and apprentice— to whom this song is addressed, I imagine— on myspace once through his "the Welcome Wagon" profile. He actually let me have a short little interview with the band. very awesome. I asked him what this song was about and why Sufjan wrote it for him...he told me I would have to ask the man myself... ah one day, I hope..
I like how Sufjan claps for himself at the end of the song. I've seen him perform live twice. Actually on back to back nights. One of the greatest experiences of my life. Eagerly waiting for his new album.
do you know when his next album is coming out? i heard that after the BQE he started writing regular songs again but they didn't fit together in a theme for the CD or something. but that's the last i've heard.
What a great tribute for Sufjan to give to his pastor in Brooklyn, Vito. God bless Sufjan for his faith and music and better yet for sharing it with us!

Vito is great, not only was this a song for him but could have been made during Sufjan's trip to Michigan where Vito is from.

I don't understand.
I love this song.
I was wondering why he was singing like that watching the video.
But everyone seems to love the video.
But still, Why?

I know what you mean. It's a weird suspended sound and he changed the last chord. I think it was just to mix it up, it sounds cool.
