I was there. He has a double bass pedal because there was an opening band, and that's their drummer's kit, not Nicko's. The bass player is Dave Spitz (ex Black Sabbath, Great White, Gary Moore and more. Also a practicing lawyer). He is also the brother of Dan Spitz from Anthrax. But they don't play together anymore.

@astrella sorry, but hit it full screen and look closer. What looks like a second head is past of the stand for his kit. And if you watch the left foot, it's always timed to the high hat. Not trying to knock on anyone here, but I've watched this performance dozens of times live, and have seen Nicko live over 20 times. He used a double pedal exactly once in his career, and it was in the studio for "face in the Sand". After which he said he would never use a double again.

Offcourse you need to know at least the basic technics, but apart from that what counts for me is, more than speed, the "feeling" someone passes to someone else using an instrument. That's the thing though. Everything you say is 100% correct, but McBrain's technique is also bloody incredible. It's not just fast shit for the sake of it, every hit has a meaning. He's not keeping time, he's making the drums come alive. His technique has meaning. Every thing adds to the song.
