I'm Italian, so sorry for my bad English. How many times she lays an egg per year? Anyway, i think you're just wonderful with your animals expecially with Bella. :-)
wow. alot of birds will get AGGRESSIVE when they lay their eggs. its really cool to see that your's goes to you for comfort rather than try to protect her eggs with her life.
This is heart-warming. You should try to slowly introduce Bella to a nice boy though, for her sake. If she's laying so many eggs it means her instincts are telling her to have a baby. Also, She can only learn to say IDL Coco if you said it first:P
Im sorry if I sound like an idiot. I never knew this could happen to female cockatoos without a male around. May I ask, what is inside the egg? again, Im very sorry for asking such a ridiculous question. i just want to understand better. I know there isnt any life within the egg. is it just mucous etc
@thebunny14 - It's not a stupid question. The only stupid questions are ones that are't asked. All female birds lay eggs, how often depends on hormones and environment. My Lorikeet used to lay eggs but there was no male so they were infertile. She would sit on them untill they went off, then she'd kick them aside and lay more. We stopped her from laying by removing her 'nest'.
This bird has the hormones to lay and is so comfortable with her human that she seeks her out when laying.
awwww, poor sweet baby! People don't realize that when they get a Parrot, they can't just go and get it spayed or neutered. So you have all of the hormonal issues that comes along with them. I only have boy Parrots because i did not want to get into an egg binding situation. I have enough problems with my own parts to deal with a girl Parrot issues LOL!
@sodacoaster I didnt know when it was her first time. this video was probably her 100th egg. I learned how she acted. She stays very still, very quiet, and keeps her feathers over her beak. then she comes down and sits very close to me. Once her crest goes up i lay down with her and about 15 minutes later she lays the egg and we stay laying down for the rest of the night because it takes everything out of her
i agree with you bellabear04, all birds are different. she doesnt look very stressed for having to lay an egg. she seems to have all of her feathers and looks to be at a healthy weight. if the bird wants her owner to help her lay an egg then thats what the bird should get. if she DOESNT get what she wants it will stress her out even more and that could cause major health issues if it happens for too long. you are doing very well with bella as far as i see. ROCK ON!
@Cadillac279 thank you so much! Bella does have all her feathers again and is to be honest just a hair over what she should be but her vet said she is in very good health. If she is going to lay an egg she will not let me put her to bed. I know the way her voice sounds when she is ready and we will just lay together on the couch. When she is done we relax for the rest of the night. It take a huge toll on her and she is permanently on calcium supplements. I hope one day she will stop!
@daonlyboriqua11 i dont think they all do. Just the ones who choose a human for a mate or ones with a real bird mate. Bella didnt do it for a year after i got her. then one day, she collapsed and i thought she died in my arms.. then 1 minute later she came to and i was crying, she started to push and grunt and i looked under her and saw an egg! I couldnt believe it! Theres been over 150 more since then..... NOT GOOD!
how did you know tahat she gonna lie a egg please let me konw hat and how did you make that she likes you if some one know please let me know that and shes so cute :D
@17animallove She backs her read end up to it and rubs it on there while she pants heavily and makes goose noises. i call it honking instead of masturbating lol
I'm sorry, but that's not funny. I figure you keep her all on her own, without any cockatoo mates. No wonder she's developed unnatural habits. This egg laying is very stressful for her, you should do something about it! Take her to a vet and get her a suitable mate.
@Mameha4 i have taken her to a vet, they did the lupron injections.they were a temporary fix. She did have a male. She hated him & developed a serious plucking habit. The last resort is getting her fixed, which is a dangerous procedure.Birds dont do well under anesthesia.. I dont know why you would assume i think its funny that she lays eggs and is in pain while doing so... i love my little girl and if i had any control over her thought pattern or desires then i would have helped her by now.
I'm sorry if I misunderstood you. I replied to a comment you made, unfortunately I can't find it right now. You posted something about her "masturbating" and added giggles etc. It all seemed to me that you found this whole affair funny and there was no comment that suggested that she had any mate at all.

@Mameha4 The thing with bella is.... shes terrified of anything that can fly, moves to fast, or jumps. She screams oh s**t At the sight of a moth or a bird flying outside. She is very neurotic and has been this way since i got her. I am her 3rd home. Her mate, Coconut was very loud and obnoxious. She actually learned to say "i dont like coconut!" I wish i could get her to stop. The egg laying is by no means funny. I cringe when its that time because i know shes hurting. I love my little girl so
@Mameha4 much and im the only person who could handle her screaming and wood chewing. 7 years later and shes still the love of my life. I would die for that girl! I can see where you are coming from completely, thats why i had gotton her a male. I didnt think it was fair for her to be alone. But coco was a brute and she was terrified of him. To this day if a friend brigs their bird over she gets very weary and watches every move they make and if they make a fast move she lunges.... Poor Bella
@Mameha4 i mainly posted this to educate people. I wanted people to see how stressful this is on a bird and if your parrot will let you stay with her during the process i think it gives them great comfort. Bella wouldnt have it any other way. She is the parrot who owns me and i wouldnt have it any other way. I saw the comment with my lol. It wasnt meant as being funny that bella lays eggs. Its funny/weird the method she uses to "impregnate" herself. The way her brain works is amusing i guess...
@littlerocket215 she just laid another egg 2 nights ago. she cuddled so far into my neck that she almost fell into the crease of the couch. shes my world
Thank you so much for sharing such a tender moment between you and your baby Bella! So heartwarming and sweet that she comes to you for comfort and support!
wow, i didn't know birds could 'false pregnancies' like that. and by that i mean she thinks she's pregnant. would she be happier having a mate to lay eggs with? i know you mentioned that you don't breed her and i completely get that.
@hoshinokachi264 i had actually gotten a male for her at one point, but she hated him and learned to say "i dont like coconut" she started plucking her chest and thats when i knew she could never be mated. i guess its better to have me then be with a bird that she hates.... they had to "divorce" lol
@VampressOfDarkness She starts pacing a lot, then she will insist on cuddling real close to my neck. After about 15 minutes of her trying to get comfortable and find a good position, she plops down and her crest will raise up with every contraction she has. It usually takes her about 30 minutes to lay the egg then its another hour of relaxing time with me before she perks back up, She lays next to me and sits on the egg until she feels better. then i take the egg because its not fertile
@LadyLatias pretty much. and its like clockwork. every month she does this... i have to give her so many supplements to restore vitamins and calcium to her body.

With the shots being 150$ a month and only being effective for a month i can not afford to keep getting these lupron injections. thats how me and my cat are when she had kittens she kept crawlin up under my blanket between my legs i wasl ike ten and was like MOM THE CATS MAKING A WEIRD NOISE mom threw on the floor n went back to bed well sasha crawled back up under my blanket and had her same kitties it was gross but i did feel the love <3 ive had her 13yrs now not looking forward to her passing :(
So sweet <3. I have a question, though: I hear Cockatoos are very affectionate but only in their baby phase, and then they become a handful. I hear they're very hard to take care of, although I want to know how to treat one right if/when I get one. Do you have some pointers? :) I'll admit that I kinda envy you, but best wishes for you and Bella. :D ♥
@fuyuseetaa Ahhh the younger years of bella... when she actually liked people! now she only likes me and my little brother. once she hit maturity and started to lay eggs she turned aggressive against everyone i cared about. She has bit all of my friends and my boyfriend. she got my mother right on her lip so bad she needed 3 sessions of plastic surgery. Not all cockatoos get like this though! My friend had one and she stayed 100% sweet to anyone and everyone who wanted to touch her.
Whoa, that's really severe. D: And I've also heard that some of them start "plucking" and hurt themselves. Has this ever happened with you and Bella? [It's something I doubt, you're so caring towards her, but I couldn't help but ask.] I can imagine most of them are sweet, though. I guess it may just depend on their personalities?
@fuyuseetaa When bella came to me she was a little bare in the chest. Within 2 months she grew everything back and thank god she never took on that bad habit again!! Alot of cockatoos turn into habitual pluckers though
@fuyuseetaa my best advice is to socialize him/her as much as possible. dont let her become a 1 person bird. i made the mistake of babying her to much. she was so cuddly & sweet that i couldnt help but lay down with her & go to sleep. Mistake #1 mistake #2 devoting literally ever waking second to her every single need and scream! they need some time to learn to play on their own! She knows my name and screams it as soon as i walk away. if you dont have time to devote to them i say dont get one
I'm homeschooled, though young, and don't go out of the house alot, so I may have enough time for them. The only times I really /do/ leave the house are to the library, ect, not far away. I think I'd have enough time to devote, although I hear they don't like children, younger or older.
By the way, how loud does one scream? I heard they're horrible but have never actually heard one scream...
@fuyuseetaa Im pretty sure there are some videos on here showing how loud they can be. turn your speakers allllllll the way up and sit back and enjoy lol. They are loud when they want to be. Bella usually only yells my name so shes not to bad
@LucyET :) thank you!!!! she 100% trusts me. and she lets me know when she is ready to lay an egg. she wont let me put her to bed and insists i stay right by her side
Awwww she looks like she really trusts you :D I have cockatiels but they won't let me pet them -_- they'll get on my hand and sit on my shoulder nibbling my hair or nuzzling my neck but they won't let me pet them.
a lot of birds are very moody during this process and don't let anybody near them...its so cool that your bird can find comfort with you! thats awesome =)
that is sooo adorable. you're lucky. I want a parrot at least that size sooo bad!! i have a green cheek conure named cheeky and he chose me as his mate. so cute. he says "cheeky cheeky" all the time. I love him to death. hope my budgies lay eggs. that would be soo cool.
Well Once she chose me as her mate she hated even him. Then one day she got spooked and flew off the couch and toward my front window. She flew into the curtain and wouldnt come down. I was to short to reach her so i yelled for my little brother. He came out and got her down and held her close. She sat in his arms saying hello over and over. From that day on she was his best friend.
She use to love everyone she met... but after about 8 days of having her she didn't want anyone near me or her. Now she wont let my mother near me and goes after her if she walks by. My little brother is the ONLY other person who she accepts. My boyfriend is terrified of her lol.
She knows when im having a bad day. When im down or feeling sad she cuddles with me for hours. She's a sweet heart and i absolutely adore her. She just laid another egg last night. I had put her to bed and about 15 minutes later she started yelling my name. I took her out, laid down with her and within 5 minutes she had laid an egg. She lets me know when she needs me. I can't believe how smart she is.
you can see her lay the egg in part 2. i let her sit on the egg for a few hours after laying it. then she loses interest in it and i either keep it and hollow it out or i throw it away. they aren't fertile. she has no male mate.
no, there is no male. she considers me a mate. thats what her vet thinks and thats what books point to as well. her and i have a very strong relationship. we can't be without each other. i love her so much! we have been together for 5 years, i am her 3rd home. the last people couldn't take her screaming or chewing. she doesn't scream now, because she actually gets attention. and the chewing.... you should see my couch lol.
Whenever she lays an egg i lightly massage her belly area and talk softly in her ear. it seems to soften the contraction pain and comfort her a lot. She has done this so many times that its become a routine and she seems to do so much better when im with her. It's such a hard process for a bird just like it is for a human.
i have had bella for about 5 years now. i'm her 3rd and FINAL home. I knew from the moment i got her that she would be more then a bird or a pet. she is literally always with me. even now as i type she is sitting on my shoulder giving me kisses. the only time she is ever caged is while she is sleeping. She learned my name last year too. so now if i walk away she yells Amanda!! hello? i would never give this girl up for any reason. i love her with all my heart. shes my little feathered daughter.
is it normal if i got a boner from this

If they're anything like chickens, those eggs have no sperm, so it's simply yolk, like the average consumable chicken egg.

She has bit all of my friends and my boyfriend. she got my mother right on her lip so bad she needed 3 sessions of plastic surgery. Not all cockatoos get like this though! My friend had one and she stayed 100% sweet to anyone and everyone who wanted to touch her.

@BellaBear04
Whoa, that's really severe. D: And I've also heard that some of them start "plucking" and hurt themselves. Has this ever happened with you and Bella? [It's something I doubt, you're so caring towards her, but I couldn't help but ask.] I can imagine most of them are sweet, though. I guess it may just depend on their personalities?
fuyuseetaa 1 year ago
@fuyuseetaa When bella came to me she was a little bare in the chest. Within 2 months she grew everything back and thank god she never took on that bad habit again!! Alot of cockatoos turn into habitual pluckers though
BellaBear04 1 year ago
@fuyuseetaa my best advice is to socialize him/her as much as possible. dont let her become a 1 person bird. i made the mistake of babying her to much. she was so cuddly & sweet that i couldnt help but lay down with her & go to sleep. Mistake #1 mistake #2 devoting literally ever waking second to her every single need and scream! they need some time to learn to play on their own! She knows my name and screams it as soon as i walk away. if you dont have time to devote to them i say dont get one

@BellaBear04
I heard they're horrible but have never actually heard one scream...
fuyuseetaa 1 year ago
@fuyuseetaa Im pretty sure there are some videos on here showing how loud they can be. turn your speakers allllllll the way up and sit back and enjoy lol. They are loud when they want to be. Bella usually only yells my name so shes not to bad
BellaBear04 1 year ago
Very sweet that she is so trusting and leaning on you, literally, to help her through this!

@LucyET :) thank you!!!! she 100% trusts me. and she lets me know when she is ready to lay an egg. she wont let me put her to bed and insists i stay right by her side

@mistytonight Please do not even consider breeding your bird while there are hundreds and hundreds of abandoned cockatoos at rescues worldwide

Awwww she looks like she really trusts you :D I have cockatiels but they won't let me pet them -_- they'll get on my hand and sit on my shoulder nibbling my hair or nuzzling my neck but they won't let me pet them.
duelover 1 year ago
@mistytonight sorry but i would never risk putting her in danger by placing her with a male. theres to many risks. i love her way to much

Yeah bella has no male either. Your Cockatoo must consider you her mate. thats why she laid an egg.

a lot of birds are very moody during this process and don't let anybody near them...its so cool that your bird can find comfort with you! thats awesome =)

How come your little brother is taller than you? Just asking. Is Bella still like that now?
camca4563 2 years ago
Why is it only your little brother that she accepts? Is he more special to her than you?
camca4563 2 years ago
Well Once she chose me as her mate she hated even him. Then one day she got spooked and flew off the couch and toward my front window. She flew into the curtain and wouldnt come down. I was to short to reach her so i yelled for my little brother. He came out and got her down and held her close. She sat in his arms saying hello over and over. From that day on she was his best friend.
BellaBear04 2 years ago
She considers you as her mate? That's so sweet! You must be so close. I wish that would happen with my birds
camca4563 2 years ago
She use to love everyone she met... but after about 8 days of having her she didn't want anyone near me or her. Now she wont let my mother near me and goes after her if she walks by. My little brother is the ONLY other person who she accepts. My boyfriend is terrified of her lol.
BellaBear04 2 years ago
Wow. Nine years old! She must be trained. and its so nice of you to help her out. good job!
camca4563 2 years ago
That's so tender and heart warming! I bet she'd do the same comforting to you if you needed it!

I can't believe how smart she is.

where is the egg?
reply me
danieldobre08 3 years ago
you can see her lay the egg in part 2. i let her sit on the egg for a few hours after laying it. then she loses interest in it and i either keep it and hollow it out or i throw it away. they aren't fertile. she has no male mate.
BellaBear04 3 years ago
no, there is no male. she considers me a mate. thats what her vet thinks and thats what books point to as well. her and i have a very strong relationship. we can't be without each other. i love her so much! we have been together for 5 years, i am her 3rd home. the last people couldn't take her screaming or chewing. she doesn't scream now, because she actually gets attention. and the chewing.... you should see my couch lol.
BellaBear04 3 years ago
so, you don't have the male? the eggs are not fertile?
plebitaal100 3 years ago
i own a lovebird so i know what you mean...i really flare up when people dismiss parrots as "just birds". they're so intelligent and affectionate...
vanishingdawnstar 3 years ago
Birds are incredible animals. i wouldnt trade her for all the money in the world
BellaBear04 3 years ago
Wow! My birds don't like to be touched when laying, do you thing the massaging helps?
verticalsmurf 3 years ago
Whenever she lays an egg i lightly massage her belly area and talk softly in her ear. it seems to soften the contraction pain and comfort her a lot. She has done this so many times that its become a routine and she seems to do so much better when im with her. It's such a hard process for a bird just like it is for a human.
BellaBear04 3 years ago
Wow, that is still such amazing trust. The way she nussles into you and lets you touch her... What an amazing relationship!
verticalsmurf 3 years ago
i have had bella for about 5 years now. i'm her 3rd and FINAL home.
