Race2 run agree with some of your comments but even if Ollie did die early because of his drinking he lived the life he loved - how many of us can truly say that. It was part of his persona and never detracted from his brilliance as an actor. Glendale Jackson, whom he adored, even said upon his death she thought he went out the way he would have wanted - I have to agree even though I miss him immensely, but he will always be a legend that will live on through his films and interviews such as th
Sorry to spoil your sober crusade, but Ollie definitely had a couple of stiff whiskey & lemonades before the show. He hated doing chat shows and was the only way to overcome his anxiety. Try again.
He was so smart. Loved the way he played himself down when he knew he was superior (intellectually) than the rest of them. A few chips came out about not been a RADA man but why tamper with greatness.
@PortsmouthNoir Yes, those 30 seconds were awesome. I'm think he had a few drinks at times like these but I'm sure I would have needed something to settle my nerves to go on national TV. I am sad that he was an alcoholic because that side I didn't like and was not amused by. He drank himself into an early grave and so many people miss him. He was an absolute brilliant actor and is sorely missed by alot of people! Thanks for the post RJBinghamesq.
Supergav67 I would like to say well done he was a true gentleman and a great actor his drinking is legendary but so much more to the man I miss him immensely! here's to him! And by thecway Clivr
Oliver. You were a true gentleman. I will never forget you as Athos from the 1973 "The Three Musketeers". Also, the role he was born to play - "Proximo" in the film "Gladiator". The world has known only a few real stars like you.
Sober,Oliver WAS a charming, polite, witty, well spoken ,& ,A competant if not brilliant actor, the proof is here, thank you for posting ThiS. , Unfortunately the guys running chat shows, publicly shocked afterwards as they appear to be wanted the other side & ,sadly at times,Ollie was only to happy to oblige. RIP Ollie, its a more boring world without you.,
I'm not going to defend Clive James previous self righteousness but it get's me that some people seem content to defend Reed and his drunkeness. I had two family members who were alcoholics. Both of which who's drinking led them to a relatively early grave. Neither would ever be invited to special family occasions because they couldn't be trusted to behave themselves! It's a sad indictment of the modern culture where public drunkeness! It's sad how some even find it amusing!
It is a terrible indictment on our society here in the U.K where we tend to really encourage people to get drunk and then make them feel as if they are entertaining the whole pub just to make them feel good about themselves and fuel the party. It is sad that people find drunkness so amusing, there is a sad side to the whole thing; I am glad that he is sober here.
Oliver seems so good looking here he used alcohol to boost his confidence i think he was a shy man underneath the showman he was. i had a thing for him big time he was so handsome.
YES!!!! Glad to see him getting back at Clive James. James really pissed me off when he was taking the moral high ground with Oliver on the other show.

Not "much better" sober, all most shy. Much better when the real Ollie appears, unchained by the monotony and bleakness of sobriety.
