  • whats the name of the process when you edit a photo creating your own scenario by adding buildings, editing the streets and stuff? like in 1:06

  • @iaroma There are several techniques used in that type of shot ranging from matte painting for the background, and camera projections for the foreground elements. However, the overall technique would be called set replacement.

  • How much does it cost to get into Vancouver Film School, and does it require that you have a special set of skills ? and my last question are. Is this an education you can use afterwards or just like a course ?

  • @camfre4k Tuition costs vary depending on the specific program. VFS offers 13 different programs and the requirements also vary based on the program in which you're interested. The best thing to do would be to speak to an Advisor: vfs(dot)com/speak-to-advisor

  • the hardest part in this video is the vehicle modeling and animation.

the rest of the scene is just with some masks and layers in different modes linked to some 3d tracking data.

  • The title should be: a vfx masterpiece

  • VFS rocks! I got a question... I know your school uses Maya, XSI, Zbrush, etc... but what is the specific software used to paint those buildings to make it look war torn? Thank you!

  • @gunsntulips Most likely the student used Photoshop to paint the buildings. Hope that helps. Thanks!

  • @VancouverFilmSchool Thank you! That's what I suspected. You guys rock!

  • @gunsntulips and compositing, we use The foundry Nuke

  • hey, when you have finished the 1 year program, what happend? is it guaranteed that I will have a job?

  • @bouchandre Thanks for getting in touch! We’d be wary of any school that purports to “guarantee” a job – ask any industry professional and they’ll tell you the same thing. We can tell you that a lot of graduates from our 13 Entertainment Arts programs go on to get contracts soon after leaving VFS. Take a look at the alumni credits on the right here: vfs(dot)com/2009, to see just some of our grads’ recent work. We feel these results say a lot about VFS!

  • @bouchandre As far as your own success goes, if you are prepared to put in the time and effort, and have a real passion for your subject, we will help you with networking opportunities as well as creating an impressive portfolio/reel, so when you leave VFS you have the tools to begin your career. Basically, at VFS, it’s our mission to give you every opportunity to succeed and do what you love. It’s up to you take that opportunity and make the most of it!

  • @bouchandre If you would like to discuss this further, or any other questions/ concerns you may have, please fill in the form at vfs(dot)com/speaktoanadvisor and one of our friendly Admissions Advisors will be in touch soon. Thanks!

  • @bouchandre I see you, man! :D

  • which software do u guys use for video editing?

  • @zchattha lol they r not gonna tell you, they want you to go to their school. and if they did tell you, it would be many softwares XD

  • @zchattha So sorry for the delay in response here - at VFS we use Industry-level Avid for video editing, along with Adobe After Effects for title sequences. Hope that helps!

  • Great man, I saw some more vids of you should be great school!

  • this guy works at ILM. great

  • This is just amazing!!

  • Awesome! The gun sounds are a bit fked up xD but the visual effects are incredible!

  • awesome

  • Does somebody if he learned all this at VFS or do you have to go with some level of experience ?

  • This student (now a graduate working at Lucasfilm) did have some visual art training before VFS, but the skills shown in this reel were all learned at VFS. You don't need to come to VFS with previous 3D training. (Not that it can hurt!)

  • OK, Thank you

  • no, it is required to know alot more than what is tought at any school. at least 4-6 years of experience to achieve these shots. after learning, it is practice and practice and that takes years. dont always go with what people at schools will tell you.

  • what about computers and software. is it all provided by school or do you have to buy them yourself?

  • All equipment needed is provided as part of your tuition cost. It is also available to you 24/7 during your time here at VFS. Thanks!

  • @VancouverFilmSchool how much does it cost to go to the school? how many years? :)

  • @frankytap Our programs run for one full intense year - at the end of which you will be ready to start your dream career! Find out all about our admissions process, tuition costs, and start dates at vfs(dot)com/admissions. Thanks!

  • whats the program?

  • Cool VFX. Take a look at my You Tube page to see VFX from other independent film makers.

  • i love taking the everyday streets and dramatically transforming them in such a way. well done! also magical job on the details.

  • thats so fucking amazing. prolly the best ive seen

  • The work made on the street is awesome !!!!!! Fucking incredible !

  • one of the better reels i've seen out of VFS... great job.... loved the comp... great FX... nice CC, and you kept it nice a simple.. good stuff!

  • The intro blew my mind. Stunning.

  • awsome

  • Great job...

  • Man, VFS is just cranking out the talent. Probably because of how many movies and televisions shows are filmed in Canada. Must be a ton of demand for talented local artists.

  • amazing

  • Excellent!!! Did you use After Effects?

  • Wow, the intro is great. I am definately going to try to recreate that in Max. Nice work! Sound effects were great. Camera blur is good too!

  • Fucking brilliant. kudos to teh-wei for this. what was the software that was used loved the rendering of the real world into a war scarred urban battle zone. 5/5

  • To add to that... anyone know how long do y'all think it would take to make something like this.

  • Its a year long program so I'm guessing they would work on their showreel the entire year (preproduction/post included)

  • nahh it can't be, im doing the a similar project, it has to be 1 minute long and we only have 3 months to do it, if they get a year, they're lucky

  • I guess you're right. Thinking about it a year is a long time!

  • i read in a comment under another video of theirs, they replied to a comment and said they get 6 months

  • i dare you to make a reel in a year hahaha. it will look like crap. by the way this is not a reel this is a project. so 6 months for a project is ALOT of time.

  • go fuck yourself.

  • love the opening sequence

  • man that is awesome! good stuff

  • Well done!

  • I just did a quick search and it looks like he's already done compositing on several TV shows now. I bet someone snatched him up right outta school.

  • Holy freaking crap. That's got to be the most detailed model of a vehicle I've ever seen. And that artist totally redid the raw footage. Amazing.
