how could they crown someone who did such a shaky job in her talent? notes were off....her voice was shaky.....the costume did NOT look like the new era of Miss America, instead looked the most like an over designed "typical" pageant costume----from the 80's. Miss Washington was soooo much better.

well she's really beautiful! can't say the same from Miss USA. I think this time the Miss America pageant scored a 100!!! I liked the previous shows that allowed the viewers to know the contestants. I hope pageants stop being dull and start entering to a new modern trend.
The TLC special as well allowed us to see the contestants for a few weeks before the finale. It was interesting to watch the ones that I had grown to like from the reality show. That's probably why I was disappointed with the final show because it seemed the show stifled the true personalities.
Great choice. I saw her on the Regis & Kelly Show today and she is such a class act! Extremely intelligent and articulant in a fun way. Her grandmother was also Miss Michigan and competed in Miss America in 1944.
The television broadcast of the final pageant was disgusting. It seemed like they flew by the seat of their pants and it showed greatly.
They said it's a NEW IMAGE.. but even the swim suit competition was dumb. They paraded and each person had so much time wasted. Sure they were nice outfits but talk about boring presentation.
There are 3 nights of preliminary competition. Kirsten had a truly wonderful interview earlier in the week and nailed her question onstage both on the preliminary night and final night. She won a preliminary swimsuit award. While her talent was not as good on the final night, the judges were impressed with her total person. If you get the opportunity to see any of her televised interviews this week, I think you'll understand what set her apart from the others.
while she might have had good prelim nights, they said that once you get to the top 16..they start with a clean slate. therefore, it really doesnt matter how well she did the other nights, those scores only served the purpose of getting her to the top 16.
If the contest were based only on swimsuit, evening gown and talent, we would end up with Miss America's that would not represent themselves or the pageant well when they opened their mouths. Some of the best talent is never seen by the viewing audience because of their lack of interview skills. I'm certain that while the judges were fair with all the contestants they were considering what kind of representative the new Miss America would be. Glad you watched the pageant.

I disagree. I was rooting for Washington, my home state but I think it was Miss Washington's talent that docked her points. Miss Michigan was the first to perform, the girls barley had their shoes on when they were thrown on to the stage and of course because of that her song wasn't perfect.
When Miss Michigan answered her question I knew it was going to be her. She shot her hand right up and when she talked she was so passionate. She looks like a real genuine person.

Yay for Washington!!! Haha. Was Wisconsin the opera singing one? If yes then she is VERY talented! Other than that there was nothing special about wisconson. When they called down the top 16 or whatever it was I thought the top three would be Washington, Michigan and Utah. Utah was always one of my favorite because she is totally not a pageant girl. I love it!
I thought Miss Wisconsin played the violin- and she was quite good. Yes Utah was cool too, I liked her full-peice swimsuit during the swimwear comp. and when when she did not win, everyone did army style push ups. 8)

hehe me too, even my roommate who is straight and doesnt watch pageants said she might win, he thought she was beautiful she was the first one to come out in swimsuit and i knew she'd get far, she was great.
