The trouble is that iPhone 4 does not have BAD signal when held in hand, it has weak signal inherently - 2 phones on the table, old Sony Ericsson 100% signal, iPhone 3GS 4 bars, iPhone 4 one bar. The problem is the BOTTOM LEFT corner of the iPhone4.

Putting an antenna outside on the side like iphone 4 has, is not an intelligent design. The moment its comes in contact with your skin, it "grounds" !! Hence you see the issue.
Infact there is nothing innovative about this design. It has been thought by others too and have been rejected due to grounding issues.
You have to lift very high both elbows and keep shrugging your arms to increase the signal strength. Ii works superbly I have cheeked or the second option buy a thick rubber for 40 bucks.

The rubber case may solve the problem, or just getting in the habit of holding the phone a certain way. But the whole impact of the elegant design is lost when you cover your hot looking girlfriend up with a bulky sweatshirt. As a former RF technician, patent holder and antenna designer for high power RF equipment, I prefer the sweatshirt off. Wouldn't you? Solution? I'm sure Apple's engineering talent can solve this, with minor changes to the phone.

You do realize it's not what hand you use to hold the phone.. it's putting your hand where the lines are because that's what gets you your reception. So as long as that's covered there should be a significant amount of signal loss regardless of what hand you're using. It's just that your left hand covers the one that gives you your actual reception during phone calls.

Fail... The issue is known to have a much higher impact (weaker signal) when the phone is held in the left hand! The Iphone 4 is not symmetric with regards to the antennae. So please repeat the same experiment when holding the rubbercased phone in your left hand, and the standard phone in your right hand...
*sigh* the problem isn't hardware. Well, not completely. Holding that side will drop the signal one or two bars, however, it's not as much as it shows. That's a problem with Apple's formula for figuring out signal. In the next update, they're switching to a new one, I think the AT&T one which is more accurate, and I think think that goes for us in the UK too. Read more about it on the Apple website.
Whether or not this demonstration is correct isn't the point. Rubber casing or not, they have to solve this problem and either recall the iPhone 4's or give people a free exchange to an updated model that doesn't have this problem. To be forced to spend extra money on a rubber case, however practical just because you want to hold you phone like a human being normally would be like telling someone, hey you can buy this computer to work on, but we're not giving you a keyboard to type with.

Most people who are right hand dominate are going to hold the phone in their left hand so that they can write information or do something else while using the phone. This is inadequate as a demonstration. The effect IS more pronounced when holding the phone in the left hand. I've used a number of iPhone 4 models extensively and this fact has been clear.

In your left hand you are holding the phone with your finger covering the black slimline atenna, where as on the right, your little finger and the finger next to it, seperate leaving the antenna free of blocked objects, even with the casing on, the antenna still drops, Apple sure do know how to make extra money out of us, and your video is helping them, hold both phones equally in both hands and try again !!!

Putting an antenna outside on the side like iphone 4 has, is not an intelligent design. The moment its comes in contact with your skin, it "grounds" !! Hence you see the issue.
Infact there is nothing innovative about this design. It has been thought by others too and have been rejected due to grounding issues.

You have to lift very high both elbows and keep shrugging your arms to increase the signal strength. Ii works superbly I have cheeked or the second option buy a thick rubber for 40 bucks.

The rubber case may solve the problem, or just getting in the habit of holding the phone a certain way. But the whole impact of the elegant design is lost when you cover your hot looking girlfriend up with a bulky sweatshirt. As a former RF technician, patent holder and antenna designer for high power RF equipment, I prefer the sweatshirt off. Wouldn't you? Solution? I'm sure Apple's engineering talent can solve this, with minor changes to the phone.

You do realize it's not what hand you use to hold the phone.. it's putting your hand where the lines are because that's what gets you your reception. So as long as that's covered there should be a significant amount of signal loss regardless of what hand you're using. It's just that your left hand covers the one that gives you your actual reception during phone calls.

Fail... The issue is known to have a much higher impact (weaker signal) when the phone is held in the left hand! The Iphone 4 is not symmetric with regards to the antennae. So please repeat the same experiment when holding the rubbercased phone in your left hand, and the standard phone in your right hand...

*sigh* the problem isn't hardware. Well, not completely. Holding that side will drop the signal one or two bars, however, it's not as much as it shows. That's a problem with Apple's formula for figuring out signal. In the next update, they're switching to a new one, I think the AT&T one which is more accurate, and I think think that goes for us in the UK too. Read more about it on the Apple website.

Whether or not this demonstration is correct isn't the point. Rubber casing or not, they have to solve this problem and either recall the iPhone 4's or give people a free exchange to an updated model that doesn't have this problem. To be forced to spend extra money on a rubber case, however practical just because you want to hold you phone like a human being normally would be like telling someone, hey you can buy this computer to work on, but we're not giving you a keyboard to type with.

If holding it in your left hand is going to cause it to lose signal...then I suspect most right handed people are going to lose signal. Most people who are right hand dominate are going to hold the phone in their left hand so that they can write information or do something else while using the phone. If your right hand dominate your going to hold the phone in your left hand as you dial numbers and then put it straight to your ear. Developer must have been a lefty to not notice loss

This is inadequate as a demonstration. The effect IS more pronounced when holding the phone in the left hand. I've used a number of iPhone 4 models extensively and this fact has been clear.
