I remember meeting him when I was in college. He talked about how these were done live in a little booth, with him watching a tiny monitor as he spoke. He ruled.
I just heard about his passing (I know, I'm late). I'm sincerely a bit bummed by this out of all the notable deaths this year. From 1995-1998 I was always someplace near Toronto and I loved City TV, mostly because of this guy! He was unique and very funny. Although I had't seen him on the TV since '98, just knowing he's gone now for everyone...sucks.
I got hooked to Late Great Movies when I noticed Mark's jokes in between commercials. Such witty humor he had. There was a short clip I'll never forget, showing skateboarders on a sidewalk at night and he said '' Full Frontal Nose Bone''. he was very funny and witty.
I used to tell a friend he ate, slept and worked at City tv as his voice was on around the clock. Travel the universe now my good man.
I'm shit faced rite now! I grew up. With this man! I prob. Liked him more then any teacher I ever had! He was the best! Shit is never gonna b the same! U didn't have to know him man- his voice could channel rite to you- shity!! :(
Mark Dailey's voice--and the personality that came with it--made City-TV stand out within the zillion-channel universe. That universe is all the more poorer with his passing.
a year ago, when i commented on this vid, i said that i "can't imagine city without his presence". sadly, that is a reality now, with mark dailey's death...and, cliche as it may sound, it won't sink in for a while...rest in peace, mark.
RIP Mark Dailey...I always loved his intros to 'great movies' and 'late great movies'...does anyone have the intro for 'Bolero' starring Bo Derek; it went something like this: "And now CityTV presents 'Bolero' starring Bo Derek. Viewer discretion advised as some scenes contain nudity, coarse language...and bad acting...."
mark dailey just marked his 30th year with citytv, so did gord martineau mention in the 6pm edition earlier...such longevity and loyalty...can't imagine city without his presence...
after having learned that mark dailey used to be with the CKLW "20/20 news" team in windsor (through another YT clip), i started thinking that perhaps, his stint over there, and their newswriting styles over at the station, may have contributed a lot to his wit and quick thinking--even until now, perhaps, when he does "citynews tonight"...
@kresblain after all, mark dailey seems to have a penchant for adlibbing...i'm pretty sure he does that often on "citynews tonight" (at least, during all the non-"hard news" parts)...

This Citytv. Channel 79 cable 7.....Everywhere!
Some of us old people can't help it. Were too used to saying Channel 79, and not 57.

As a Torontonian, I've always felt that you stood taller than the CN Tower as our most cherished cultural icon.

If he left City TV tomorrow I think people would go crazy not hearing his announcements.

@steeltownbrown52 I'm extra sure Mark's voice will remain on Citytv station ID's. No one can say Citytv "Everywhere!" better than Mark.

I think Mark Dailey did some of the chorus in Rush's "Subdivions".

he did these "great movies" VOs live, didn't he?

If they were live, I'll bet that the spiel heard here was intentionally made to be funny. :oP
Great find, dude.
