Please dont take my comment as some militent remark, I read in the description that the dark ages were not so dark and that real barbarians were not so barbaric. I simplyy aggree and that alot writings are very biased because historically at that time the Romans had less than a favorable view of Barbarian tribes and history today carries the same basic trend. It has nothing to do with seeing anyone as any enemy today. simply a historical remark.
Yes, the Romans often didn`t even understand the culture of the barbarian tribes, because they were too convinced of themselves and not interested in other peoples. Even when they tried to write something about other cultures, they did it often without real knowledge, but based on older Greek writings. At least Caesar wrote about the Celtic tribes with some respect, that they send their children to Druids to learn 20 years, and that they write in Greek letters. Doesn`t sound very barbarian.
I made the video to let the people "speak" themselves by their artwork, and not always filtered by opinions of enemies or historians. Everybody can see what they were able to do and what not, and if this is worth to be called barbarian or refined. In my opinion, the artwork shows much of the character of the Germanic people of the migration period. I am not able to answer the question if the people of this period were really such big warriors as often is said
or if the migration was for real more a migration than a permanent warfare.I only see that the jewelry is made with big knowledge about techniques, and I wonder, how they were able to do it without modern tools like gas torches. This doesn`t go well together with the common picture of club swinging, always drunk crude idiots. When I saw pictures of the jewelry, I was highly enthusiastic about the clear geometry, the colors and the designs.
Yes to look at it now the artisanship is amazing and I have wondered about many things as far as technique is concerned. I myself do Blacksmithing and have only barley had success at forge welding with modern flux and heat. Then to see so many tools made this way so long ago in the Iron age is amazing as well as the amazing jewelry pieces are detailed beyond most modern jewelry.
The bottom line of what? The jewelry shown here is made by Germanic tribes. I don`t say the other tribes you mention are Germanic.

We were artists and craftsmen as well as warriors. Lets remember that only our enemies words are remembered today.
