  • I just had a weird fantasy of Brian Cox waking up in heaven next to a fridge and just going "oh"

  • I don't blame the host for just saying, yeah. If Brian Cox had to stop and explain everything that most of us don't understand it would of been a long fucking show! lol

  • I use to ponder the lights on a speed of light car question when I was at high school with my friends.

  • This is faaantastic :)

  • Why can't there be more people like Brian Cox, brilliant interview!

  • Are any more of these being made?

  • Right, wow, I get it :)

    Good programme!

  • One of the best guests ever, for me at least, I find this stuff fascinating!

  • I know how you feel in this situation. When your occupied with driving and struggling to get the grasp of what he's saying, you just have to be polite and "smile and wave". Although in this situation I actually did know what he was on about :P. Loving this series though.

  • I am going to attempt to interpret here

Right = I have no idea what you are talking about LOL

  • Ouch. I apologize. I never expected YOU to respond. I am a huge fan of your show, and of b.cox. It was a narrow attempt to be funny. I applaud u and your decision to have such a cool guest in your car. Btw, it is far from embarrising, keep up the good work!

  • this program looks a bit dangerous talk about driving distractions

  • Kryten being confused by space stuff? He always seemed so knowledgeable :o

  • Right right right right right........SHUT UP!

  • @saganemc2 Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah, come up with something original. However, I do take your point, this is the most embarrassing episode of Carpool (for me) as it reveals how thick I am. On the other hand, I admit my ignorance and try to overcome it, not sit in a pool of bitterness snarking at other people in a rather pathetic and unoriginal way.

  • @carpoolUK ...and on a more positive note, i've only just discovered carpool and can't get enough of it, what a great idea this was, well done :)

    Content over form.

  • @fosheimdat You won't be missed.

  • The Higgs boson walks into a church and the priest says "We don't allow your kind in here." To which the particle says "But without me, how can you have mass?"

  • @MrLabratic wtf?

  • Loved it Rob, so glad you got Brian to do Carpool.

Could you get Roger Penrose, that would be good.

  • "fusion bomb, thats old, rubbish." so funny!

  • I wonder does he ever get bored/annoyed by having constantly tell us non-physicists what is fairly basic Uni physics course. If he tried to explain what he actually does our minds would explode.

  • @Elpmek I doubt it. Most of the academics I know would happily spend all day every day talking about their subjects. To survive as an academic you have to really, really bloody love your subject - and if you don't get to Coxy's position without passion. Also, every person you meet has a different level of understanding, and a different body of knowledge, so part of the joy of explaining your ideas to them is trying to find new, and better, explanations.

  • @Elpmek Yeah, probably not. I'm a molecular biologist and I have to actively discourage myself from boring all and sundry with my subject! :)

  • he played kryten

  • Did Robert have to do a test after this?

  • @krevno after the 3rd time you posted that 'joke'. That joke could not get any 'deader' HAA

  • Brian didn't get a D in maths, he got a D in A-level maths which is challenging and therefore does't make him a 'thicko'

  • if i travelled at the speed of light, could i turn my head lights on?

i have been asking this for so long...i love this man

  • when you are driving in a city and listening to complex physics talk at the same time you would not think about it much and say " yes, right" just like that unless you want to crash, so lay off the man :DD

  • Tried to play a "wow" drinking game but one of us had to be taken to casualty.

  • I tried to make a chemistry joke, but there was no reaction

  • I loved the book, Why Does e=mc²?; at some points reading it was like listening to him explain first hand. It was really easy to understand - I failed myself by not taking physics as a subject even though it's my main passion beyond English... headdesk.

  • All the comments about the wowowowowow and rightrightright . . .obviously not listening to Brian, cos i did not here Robert at all . . . BC is a superb scientific raconteur

  • Lol what a fucktard. Seriously?? He thought all planets were rocky? -.- Ive had fucking enough. Im officially changing species.

  • Robert , Do you ever feel that your brain is going to come out of your ears during interviews like this?

Brilliant work, and Brian Cox is such and interesting guy.

Keep up the great car pool work. I've learnt so much about subjects that I thought I had no interest in!

    Thanks!

  • right. right. yes. right. wow. right. yes. right. right. right. right. yeah. right. right. yeah. right. wow.

  • @flyersphan111 Yes, right, very original comment, right, wow. Brilliant, so insightful, yeah, right, right. Wow

  • @carpoolUK LMAO xD.

  • @aeolus75 Yes, right, very original comment, right, wow. Brilliant, so insightful, yeah, right, right. Wow

  • Right right oh right right right oh right right oh right right right oh right right oh right right right oh right right oh right right right oh right right oh right right right oh right right oh right right right oh right right oh right right right oh right right oh right right right oh right right oh right right right oh right right oh right right right oh right right oh right right right oh right right oh right right right oh right right oh right right right oh right right oh right right WOW

  • @AlexA1ex Yes, right, very original comment, right, wow. Brilliant, so insightful, yeah, right, right. Wow

  • @carpoolUK are you still going to make a profit from this if you drive a turbocharged (because it's more eco) mustang? the show is brilliant, but i think that an occasional v8 noise at full throttle would make it way better.

  • toured with jimmy page blimey lucky man

  • RIGHT WOW RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • He is such a genius!

I would love to spend a weekend with him

  • i'd love to meet him. it's not often that genuinely intelligent, nice people get media coverage the way he has (e.g. QI, would i lie to you etc).

i'm not a scientist, im a linguistics student, but i do find space an amazing thing and i'd just loooove to listen to him talk!

  • brian...we need to meet fella.....im tryin to get contact....ive met u at man uni...google me....atezfox

  • God doesn't believe in fridges.

  • Sorry to sound american but

OMG HE'S DRIVING ON THE WRONG SIDE!!!

  • Wait, he was born in 1968??? hes 43?? WOW, i wouldnt of said he was about 30!

  • he is the physician's wet dream

  • @TheRainbowGoats Physicist. Physician is a medical professional

  • If anyone has the chance go see uncaged monkeys

  • I would like to see Brian answer what is known of Dark Matter and Dark Energy. Also, I saw once that it is thought that the expansion rate of the cosmos is relative to dark energy and this rate is accelerating faster than the speed of light is this possible? Finally how does he perceive the distinction between the cosmos and the universe. I have many more questions obviously, but I'm sure that everyone else does too.

  • he looks like Cillian Murphy the scarecrow in batman begins

  • @TheJessePepper... don't you mean 'Capa' in Danny Boyle's 'Sunshine'? He played a particle physicist in that :P

  • Man, how I would love to be in a car with Brian and in stead of asking all these questions about space and his documentaries and ridiculous amount of knowledge, just keep ramming home the fact that his last name is quite funny. Just to make me feel superior in at least one way. Other than that, I'd love to go and have a drink or twelve with him. I bet I can down more than him. Nothing spells superiority than watching your rival throw up.

  • I want to give Brian kisses.

  • Best carpool evaaaaaaaa!

  • I love the intro music

  • I watch this like once a month lol

  • blah bah blah blah blah blah SCIENCE

  • 12:28 oh my god he's the space core

  • Yes it's hard to really listen, isn't it? One doesn't need to ooze constantly or overuse wow ?

  • @norabudgie It's not nice to call your parents that, even if you aren't lying.

  • @SANDVlCH piss of u cunt

  • @norabudgie Not nice to speak to your elders like that. anyway, it's your bedtime. pop off up the stairs and die.

  • His enthusiasm makes me feel all warm inside.

  • its so cool that i actually can understand everything mr. cox says!

i love physics and space and omg.... i love science <33333

  • I could sit and listen to this guy all day, his passion for physics is inspiring.

  • @deadinside7 i love his attitude towards it

  • I'd love to meet this guy, and have lunch with him. I would have so many questions.

  • driving while concentrating on physics stuff is hard to do. good thing this guy didn't hit something.

  • haha i love him so much!! only he can discuss in depth and then go on to say "that's because you're a lazy basterd!" its so nice to learn about his personal life like about his kid and stuff, shows he's human not like a supercompter :L

  • How do you marry 'things can only get better' with 'all things tend towards entropy' ??? (physics joke..sorry).

  • @shepshepshep LMFAO

  • Comment removed

  • @shepshepshep Awww, don't worry - I think most moderately intelligent laymen can understand the concept.

  • Comment removed

  • riiiiiiiiiiight....

  • Yeah cause driving someone around is an ideal way to interview people. Anyway Cox should take off his shirt and party naked.

  • right...right, yeah right. right oh wow, right. RRIGHT. yeah yeah, wow YES right

  • @bcm18 I'm not sure if you're aware how to converse with someone, but whilst the other person is tallking it's polite to show interest in what they are saying.

  • Gotta love this guy but look how rubbish his punches are!

  • NEW GAME: How many times can you say 'right' in half an hour?

  • I loved the fridge analogy. I never really thought of it that way.

a "soul" without a body would have no way to process information.

brian cox is so much more interesting than I knew from his science channel shows.

definately favoriting this fascinating little chat =)

  • Wasnt expecting his first line to be "Ive done snorkeling" lol

  • Prof. Cox is DEFINITELY on my short list for people I'd love to meet and spend an evening talking with. Well done!

  • This is like an add on to his wonders series, glad i watched this.

  • Imagine if in a parallel universe Brian Cox never left the band, reached fame and fortune as a rock star and after twenty five years of hard living and partying, could barely put together a coherent sentence.

  • I find this enormously entertaining. As an artist with no science education, I appreciate the host standing in for me saying all the rights and wows...scientists must find us such dolts. I appreciate that Cox does not let on how ridiculous it must seem that non-scientists are so surprised and awed by what he knows to be the basic facts about the world.

  • Wow.

  • matter---->BOOM<----anti-matter

  • Right.. Wow...is it wow. A big ball of gas, wow.

  • kl, brian cox! I've just been watching his new bbc series on bbc iplayer, pretty good thus far :)

  • He's just a bit to self-consciously 'cool' for my liking.

Always has the sunglasses on in 'Wonders of the Universe' ....

  • @zekezero12345 But he's so cheery! Wonders of the universe was great, I thought.

  • Quick question: Have you had Bill Bailey or Brian Blessed on the show? I would love to see either of them in carpool.

  • Brian Cox got a 'D' in maths at school, what a thicko

  • @fancythathat even so look at him now! :)

  • @GeekyGirl1011 Yeah, I know, SUCH A FUCKING CUNT

  • @fancythathat noo as in he got a D and now hes a Professor doing Particle Physics, he's so inspiring to me in my eyes, and we all have our point of you, you dont like him but i do, :)

  • @GeekyGirl1011

    He was trolling.

    You're stupid! :)

  • bob is baffled

  • right, yeah, right, right right right right.. yeah, right.. yeah, oh right, ok.. yeah.. yeah.. yeah.. right.

  • i'm not sure the presenter/driver is right for this. and i'm not sure what the carpool is for, it's a gimmick, it'd be much more interesting if it was just an interview (y'know, like a normal boring interview, where people just sit down and talk to each other without being in a car, or on a plane, or in a game show.. just a bloody talk!).

  • Does anyone else think that Robert stops listening as all he starts to say is 'Right.. yeah.. Wow'? I think in some parts its just going right over his head.

  • @lellyumsX Good point, and I agree. But to nuance that, I would say: 1. He is driving. And I know that when I am driving, if someone is talking to me about complex stuff (even less complex than the origin of the universe) I will eventually switch off because I'm concentrating on the road. And 2. This is bloody complex stuff. Brian does a good job, but it's still really quite complex. Even if you're not driving, it's easy to switch off.

  • @lellyumsX Well, yes he does, but have you ever tried to understand cutting edge theoretical particle physics while driving?

  • @3LARI No, have you?

  • @lellyumsX Yes, a couple of my friends are studying particle physics and want to work at CERN so I often get stuck in the middle of mind-bending conversations while trying to navigate roundabouts.

    It's quite stressful.

  • @3LARI Hmm, I can imagine. I'd love to have someone to discuss it with. Well, maybe not when i'm driving, haha!

  • @lellyumsX i could listen to brian allll day loongg

  • @owenotley And me. I'd just be in awe for most of it, so i wouldn't really get what he was saying haha. But still; i'd love it. ;D

  • @lellyumsX I imagine it goes over most people's head. To quote Richard Feynman: "If you think you understand quantum theory, then you don't understand quantum theory"

  • @lellyumsX He has to drive and understand particle physics. That's not easy.

  • @flakelorenz02 I do know that.

  • wow .. right .. yes could Robert not say anything else during this repetition is dull! Brian fascinating as always.

  • 278-0? that's the best ratio I've ever seen.

  • He's so smiley :)

  • crikey....are you Schizophora?

  • @HermanTheNinja Schizophora is a variety of flies. He made another mistake here he probably will not own up to unless he sees he cannot escape it with mental gymnastics. He probably meant Schizophrenic. To that I would say "no," but self-diagnosis is unreliable.

I told him earlier that I wasn't wasting my time with him too much and would address the audience instead. He seems to have failing short-term memory. I brought up a psychological condition, and he tried to do the same.

  • @Phaleel it seems like you have a ditachment from reality

  • @HermanTheNinja If anyone here agrees that I have a detachment from reality, please let me know. Same things goes for HermanTheNinja, if you feel that is the case.

Also, if anyone thinks my spell-check doesn't work, please let me know. Same thing with HermanTheNinja.

Notice how he has decided it is not worth responding to his double use of the word Schizophora, where in he asked me, paraphrased: "Phaleel, are you seriousy(his spelling) 'a family of flies?'

  • @Phaleel do you feel a betterness of youreself from putting others down?

  • @HermanTheNinja In case anyone else is wondering if this is the case: I stated it earlier:

If I see someone who is both ignorant and arrogant, OR someone who makes a claim without backing it up with example or sourcing/citation, then I will call them out on it. He should feel embarrassed and this should propel him to change his behavior and attempt to actually learn things from here on out. He is mistaking this feeling of embarrassment as "being offended." It is a pity-plea...

  • @Phaleel i wish i study'd psychology deeper.....you'rs is a classic case of schoolyard syndrome......trying to express too much the masses to expose a view in a vulgar point of view

  • @HermanTheNinja Here he is INCORRECT again by leaving BULLY out of Schoolyard BULLY syndrome, which isn't a Psychological Theory, or even hypothesis. It's just a saying.

He didn't even apply it correctly either even in its common usage.

He also did a poor job of explaining it. What is vulgar about my proposal:

That people should be called out on their ignorance ONLY IF they show it with arrogance like he has. Again, he is trying to play victim and thinks he is above reproach.

  • @HermanTheNinja I do want to commend HermanTheNinja here though. He did show some humility with "i wish i study'd psychology deeper."

  • @Phaleel youre an idiot....ive looked on youre site & other people have told you to shut up...

  • @HermanTheNinja This is true, 3 of them in 4 years. Anyone is welcome to write whatever they want to say on my channel page and I will never remove their heartfelt thoughts, no matter how wrong they are.

Dealing with BELIEVERS is a strange thing. They are not reasonable and they will attempt to win at any cost. It's just something that comes with failed logic.

  • @HermanTheNinja He actually showed his ignorance here with the second use of the word Schizophora. Incredible.

Please folks, do not just laugh. Let him know precisely what you think of his or my part of this exchange. Seriously, HE NEEDS TO KNOW how obviously ignorant and arrogant he shows himself to be.

  • @Phaleel do you feel that you have to put down others to make youreself feel better?

  • @HermanTheNinja Here he seems to think he is the victim even after I explained this argument needs to be sourced(not enough "precious metals") and that society is a victim of his ignorance and the spread of it.

Society is the victim of those who think they are intelligent without really ever lifting a pen and they must be called out so that the embarrassment they feel propels them to change that ignorance and their philosophy on learning. Embarrassment is not offense, and vice-versa.

  • @Phaleel do you feel you need approval from others to further youreself in this wold......in an approval kind of stance?

  • @HermanTheNinja Can anyone tell me where this is coming from? LOL!

How in the world does criticizing someone or asking for the audience's opinion ON BOTH OF US(not just him) make it so I seek validation? I am simply assuming a good percentage of this world is able to see what I am seeing. I don't think that is asking much and I do not think my observations are very hard to draw either. Again, they are easy to see in HermanTheNinja. He is a very clear example of the Dunning–Kruger effect.

  • @Phaleel what youre doing is not to present a point of view......but youre personality.....

  • @HermanTheNinja Folks, I agree this is a display of my personality. I've clearly stated that I think a mixture of ignorance and arrogance should be called out, numerous times. I do not think this a bad thing and I have encouraged you all to comment on me as well saying, "it is only fair." If I had a personality hang-up, I wouldn't invite you to do that. I hold a clear conscious. I can't say the same for someone who has shown they won't own up to their mistakes and there are plenty of them.

  • @Phaleel youre just a troll....

  • @HermanTheNinja He still hasn't addressed the two very wrong statements he has made or the misspellings OR qualified his initial claim. He simply cannot speak intelligently and this is proven to such an extreme, I do not think I'll ever see it again like this in my life. I am serious about that too.

  • if someone is going to say this is how it works.......then that is how it should.....

  • @HermanTheNinja What?

  • im as serious as cancer

  • @HermanTheNinja No, you are as dumb as dirt.

  • @Phaleel MORON!!!!

  • how much tonnage of lithium could be used in replacement of steel for internal combustion engion's in comparrison to battery engions....

  • @HermanTheNinja LMAO!!! YOU ARE SERIOUS SOMEHOW, AREN'T YOU?

Look at his response here everyone!

He thinks Lithium REPLACES Steel! LOL! I can't believe my eyes. Please tell me you only worded your question wrong. Otherwise, I will completely feel like I'm throwing gold to swine.

  • @HermanTheNinja There is more of this conversation further down. It began just a few responses down from these.

Typing this so you any fence-sitters have a comprehensive view of our exchange.

  • @Phaleel you.....are a troll!!!!

  • @HermanTheNinja I'm not a troll and I'll leave opinion to the impartial audience.

Notice there is not any substance in these. He has found something he thinks he can derive pity from, and treats his speculation(that I'm a troll) as fact. It's a shame really...

Now he probably feels he can sleep better thinking I'm just a troll and really all that has happened is we are back to him being completely without substance and resorting to the same 5th grade rhetorical "schoolyard" tactics earlier.

  • @Phaleel TROLL

  • @HermanTheNinja Guess we'll continue to hear this OVER and OVER and OVER.

What's the definition of insanity again? RIGHT!

It's doing the same thing over and over hoping for a different result.

He needs to realize that calling someone a "troll" doesn't make an intellectual argument. He is simply playing the victim. I think the time I've put into my responses and the substance through example and proper argument show me to be anything but a troll.

  • @HermanTheNinja I would encourage HermanTheNinja to go read the exchanges I have had with the 3 people that let messages on my page and see that I treated them just as fairly as I have treated him.

  • @Phaleel troll

  • @HermanTheNinja Insane.
