My Mom's parents had a small restaurant and bar during the war and they served the Germans first and then the Soviets. My Mom was in her teens at the time and remembers the German troops being far more respectful of the Hungarian people. Although she did say the Soviet officers were also respectful but the infantry soldiers they had lots of problems with, not so with the German troops.

Begining with april 1944 the british and us aircrafts and bombers executed bombing against oil rafinery major cities and the front line bombing. In aug-1944, Romania was defeated by soviets, us and british. At 23 august romanian troops received order ceased fire. Hitler gave order to germans to consider romanians as enemies. On 25 august Romania declared war to Germany. At that moment Italy was on the winers side!

As you can see on the film, this is the Budapest breakout, where the rest of the defenders of Buda made a desperate breakout towards west. There where all together 30000 honvéd,wehrmacht,ss, and civilians. On the film you can see man of the survivals 700 man!!

The battle of Budapest was much longer then the one of Stalingrad.

Well there were brave solider there. But the losses were high. The germans lose 125.000men in dead, the russians 110.000in dead. The Russians were very brutal in the battle of budapest, they reaped over 50000 hungarian civilians!! 40000 hungarian civilians were killed. So the Russians were very brutal to.

Well, that propaganda! Hero figth?. No, the germans were pushed back with horrible losses. They lose 125.000men in dead. the russians lose ca.110.000men in dead. Ok but both sides figth hard and they were many brave soliders there.
