The standard oil charge for 1/4 to 5/8H.P. compressors is 600cc.As it is not being used for refrigeration it is not essential to use refrigeration oil which is dehydrated.
I`m planning to empty the oil from 2 small compressors around the same size as the ones in your video and replacing it with new oil.
I`m not 100% sure how much oil to put in though.. is it worth measuring the old oil and using that as a guide or maybe just put 500-600ml in and hope for the best? :)
You mention 150ml.. i guess that is in addition to the existing 600ml in the comp so maybe i should go for 750ml of fresh oil? decisions ahh! lol
@mainlymojo no there are 3 ports a suction port for obv air in a discharge port for air out and also a 3rd unused port which is usualy plugged up this is the oil fill port if im correct thx
I know folk have experimented with cooking oil as a precaution for oil contaminating aquariums. No one followed up by saying how long the compressor lasted.
The original idea of providing a "de-hydrated" oil for refrigeration use is not essential for air compresors or vacuum pumps. So your idea of using half synthetic or mineral oil may well be a very good combination.
Try it.If you can check the amperage the compressor draws it may be clue to how efficient your oil combination is.
I've tested this type of compressor extensively but to provide sufficient filteration on the air for aquarium use is not a practical solution.
I use it for vacuuming my larger inverted aquariums to provide air flow. This method does not "push" air into the aquariums but "pulls" air in when the water level drops.I also use it for cleaning pumps and filters quickly.

Which port are you drawing the oil up through? If its the suction port won't it just spit it out of the discharge port?

Yes.Refrigeration oil is just "dehydrated" oil to prevent moisture entering the refrigeration system.

You need a special oil for this compressors...
But you can also use other types of oil, lover viscosity it has, better...
