How KWS is not in the shadows of Buddy i will never understand and he sure needs to learn a thing or two about showing respect to the legend standing next to him and not try to out play him. Absolutely horrible solo.
Cyndi Might be not the same type of voice they usually take for the Blues, but since she is so unusual at first, and she's got the vibe on her, then I really clap this performance with all those Blues singers, who... appear to be very pleased with her, and welcoming her into that rhythm by making such a nice pack of players and singers, for me sounds like the girl really pleased their ears, otherwise they just could have decline the invitation...Don't you think?
I question that move by the production crew of the Grammys as well. I guess that's just another unfortunate representation of the reality of the music industry. Unless you're talking about musicians like Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Guitar Slim...there's not many musicians that have lived that Buddy should be standing in the shadows of (literally and figuratively). At the very least, he got his #6 Grammy that afternoon.
Trust me, I love Cyndi, but she doesn't have the deep growling voice for the blues. She is one of the greatest of all times, but this is not for her. Listen to those other women... that's how you do it. No offence Cyndi cause I have always loved you!!
@sherri419. Who in 1985 would have guessed Cyndi Lauper, of Girls Just Want To Have Fun-fame, would be singing a Willie Dixon song at the Grammys? I wouldn't have expected it at all. I completely sold her short. She's exceptionally talented! She would have made Koko proud!
@754southwabash 'can't tel you why but I always knew she had that kind of vibe, she's my favorite artist, her voice is such a paradox!!! hiiigh pitched voice with a looot of power ^^
when i saw her sing River Deep - Mountain High of tina turner i knew she could DEFINATELY SING ^^
Good performance, but Buddy Guy definitely should've been in the forefront. If I'm not mistaken, he was on the actual recording that Koko Taylor did.

Who are the other female singers, aside from Lauper? Staples doesn't show until ~ 3:30 I hope that isn't Bonnie Raitt w/ the black hair.

They also forgot Kenny Wayne Sheppard
