To be honest, I think alot of the nervous breathing stuff trumpet players suffer from has to do with trumpet lessons themselves.

Breath control is such a big part of lessons these days that many players become overly aware of their breathing, and end up being a bit forced/nervous about whether they are doing it right.

Applies to all wind instruments, but to trumpet especially. Not being critical of this particular instructor, rather the trend of instruction in the formative years.

I don't know the official name for it, but I played this in high school called "Theme from: PICTURES AT AN EXHIBITION" by Moussorgsky. It is a good practice song, easy to play.

Haha yeah! He directed an ensemble (it was the Orchestra Repertoire class) at the U of O (where I go), and he called the clarinets "assholes" because they weren't there (apparently no clarinets signed up for the class); but that's because he's from New York, and how good of a player he is makes him amazing!
