it's interesting that in 2007 and 2008 two spanish climbers had to ride the TT of their lives to hold onto the yellow jersey. And they suceeded.

he avged around 33-34 MPH for that TT; but it did have some uphill sections which may have slowed him some. I know the world record for time trial is eddy merckx and then beaten by chris boardman ( i think ) and thats around 48 - 50 miles in a hour on a circular track.

boardman did a 55km/h tt in the tour de france 93 or 94, i think. the fastest so far but he probably was super high on epo.

There are a lot of non-professional, non-doped riders that can ride a 40K in under 50 minutes. If you're a serious rider and can't, then I'd train a little harder, you'll get there. I'm not saying the riders aren't doped though.

it was about 50m probably ha. not very long..but that was a while ago. i topped off at 35 in a sprint at a local crit last night actually. we had a pretty nice tailwind goin gon too which helped a lot!

yah thats crazy fast, I train 4+ hours a day and I'm averaging 40km/h on an 18.2km course, so 10-15km faster than that? I couldnt even imagine that

it's not about how much you train it's about what your doing when you train and the quality of your training.....also the gear they have helps a bit.
