VALDI KALDI That´s Icelandic. Valdi is a nick name for Valdimar (propably orginally a Russian name). KALDI means, well you could say "cool" (Kaldur means cold), but rather it means someone who is brave or daring. Actually this is just a nice rhyme But in my childhood, there was a guy, that was called Valdi, & we kids always added Kaldi to it, it sounded so nice, VALDI KALDI.
@partridgehearne Well, it is Bohemian (Czech) song! Or at least it was played in Bohemia (now The Czech Rep)... The notation was found on a book which belonged to Tomáš Štítný ze Štítného who was Czech. It is considered to be a Czech anonym dance melody from the 14th century. The instructions how to dance it, however, had not been preserved...
@partridgehearne - absolutely no idea - probably doesn't have a meaning ... like "nonny-noonie" or "tra-la-la-la-la." i picked up the tune from a cd called "monch von salzburg" (CHR 77176.) they called it "caldy valdy" - 14th cent., from bohemia.
Nice tune : ) what is the note that you play on the citole?
