you could dislocate the jaw of the bass, then it would starve to death. But it happens if if the fish is very large and is picked up by its jaw

this could happen to any bass if you hold it to horizontal ... it should not be horizontal for more than 2 secs and .00001 fracts of a sec...

any LM over 4LB should be supported if you bring the fish anything more then slightly horizontal that fish was small enough to get away with.
