@EazyE6793 In my opinion, no. It's not a terrible starter bike, but I wouldn't say it's a good one either. For your first bike, you need something you can afford to drop, scratch, etc. It will happen. This is a great bike, easy to ride, lots of fun and great for customizing, but not the best starter bike in my opinion.
@dgmphotography actually ok...so besides the fact that ill probably drop it. lets say i won't. im gonna practice on a friends ninja its a 600cc something or other. plus ive ridden dirt bikes here and there. power wise and handling wise, how would it be for a beginner. i mean i have plenty of friends that started on an r6 and they never laid them down. so this cant be much different.
@EazyE6793 It seems you've already made up your mind. The 696 has plenty of power to have a great time and get into trouble, not enough to win races on the track. Handling is incredible. I love the way it handles. It's light and it's a Ducati. :) Personally, I wouldn't recommend it to most people as a starter bike, but then again, I'm sure there are plenty of responsible people who will do fine with it. Best advice I can give, is to take as many MSF and other courses as you can find.
@rg0r Nice...I think you are also the one who was deciding between an 883 and a Monster right? :) I'm also the guy with the 883. Now, if you tell me you also have an 883 I might start to think we're related.
@rg0r Yeah, I wasn't planning on adding the Duc to the family, but it just worked out one Friday night. I was able to put 400mi on it before it got too cold. Now, I'm busy customizing it. I've already done the exhaust, ECU, intake, mirrors, levers, fender delete, and am waiting on a bunch of parts to get powder coated right now. She's in pieces in my garage.
