  • Virtuoso

  • I bought the cassette tape in 1980. Played it many times going to visit my girlfriend who lived 30 min away. It became our family theme. We still listen to it. Great music gets greater with time.

  • @dmicroone just like WINE! haha

  • maravilhoso.....

  • なろほど、この頃のA・ジャクソンはまだ普通のベースで演っている。

    最強の布陣ですね

  • grover was a good friend, when ever he's in dallas I'd always spend a little time taking to him

  • RIP Robert Thomas this one's for you!!!!!!

  • He caught a lot of hell from jazz purists who were mad at his commercial success- sure its not the heaviest music but great quality and staying power, still sounds gtood.

  • I have seen many artists, from Frank Sinatra to Twisted Sister (how is THAT gfor varying genres, and talent levels...eh? LOL), I regret never seeing Grover live, but we and I still have his music. He was a true talent, and it shows in this video with the band, which was silly talented. I would say R.I.P, Grover, but presuming you (and I...) went to heaven, looking forward to you to seeing St. Peter at the Pearly Gates and just listening...

  • RIP Ralph Macdonald..

  • I am happy to say that I've had the pleasure of seeing Grover live in concert. It still ranks as one of the greatest musical experiences of my life.

  • Whew!! Another jaw dropping Anthony Jackson performance!

  • 11 people are deaf…

  • The greatest !!!

  • @Hanzi63 really? Over John Coltrane, Julian "Cannonball" Adderley, Stan Getz, Charlie Parker, Michael Brecker? Dont get me wrong I would definitely put Mr Grover Wahington in this category of great sax players but I cant say the best

  • @MCalixte89 Really .... ?

  • @MCalixte89 dude bird wins

  • very few musicians ahve contributed to the smooth jazz genre as him.I think he kinda set the base.Smooth sax, soft synths latin drums and a touch of funk...

  • Legend!

  • Got goose bumps at the first opening notes! Awesome they don't make em like this anymore!

  • Brilliant!!!! 8:15 of pure pleasure.

  • The Best Ever!!!

  • Do oneself a major favor...if your money is tight then be nice and maybe someone will buy his work for you from a site such as Amazon on dvd. For less than $20 ( a steal at any price really), you get to see the best at your leisure and there are quite a few dvd's available. I saw him live in the 90's and life has not been the same since we lost him. The ability to speak without ever saying a word embodies the artform known as Jazz. Peace

  • @onlyjaz Wow your so fortunate to have heard his music live. I'm going to check it out at Amazon thanks for the heads up.

  • Porn music

  • @JL897139 Yeh, not arf....

  • Sheer elegance...

  • My Fiancee bought me the Album in 1981 and I still lisent to this great musician. I love his jazz music

  • My Fiancee bought me the Album in 1981 and I still lisent to this great musician. I love his jazz music

  • I've always loved Grover's playing and music. It's great to see that I'm only one of millions that find him to be a supreme artist. A sad loss but his legacy continues for future generations to enjoy.

  • This was the time when everything was cool man

  • من اجمل ما سمعت اذناي

    هذا الانسان جدا رائع

the good artiest in the world

  • A REAL SOUL RELAXER...

  • This music makes me want to headbob with a duckface :3

  • what a beautiful story of a life lived wondefully A@ argaretbea.....I've had a taste of that and will cherish it forever....and Grover is THE Boy to have provided a great soundtrack to a beautiful part of our lives...he truly is MISTER MAGIC!

  • bass line from Anthony Jackson is the bomb, he looks like Ced the Entertainer

  • I've bin listening to Grover in 70s on vinyl (album), today is his music on SD-Card in the car, and it sounds better then ever...

  • I've wanted to know the name of this song FOREVER! I remember when I was a kid, the local t.v. stations would play it when they were showing the weather forecast.

  • one of the most amazing jazz musicians ever, love his music

  • Ben listening to Grover since the late 70's. One of the great smooth jazz artists and a co-founder if the genre. It does not get any better than this.

  • @plostitute was Grover not a muppet?

  • excuse my ignorance (i'm from Australia), but is this the same Grover from Sesame Street???.........If it is wow he's really come along way.

  • Notice how there is no "Grover WashingtonVEVO"

Speaks volumes to the mans talent. Hands down, greatest smooth jazz era player to date

  • I bought a Grover Washington Jnr. LP "Winelight" in 1981-I don't think back in those days I really would have believed I would be listening to his music 30 yrs later and still enjoying it and appreciating it after all the music that has passed in those intervening years. Just shows I was only 18 yrs old then but I had good taste:-)

  • @SuperElmoHunter I bought this record at a thrift store for 2 buck and when i looked it up online it said it can be worth in upwards of 130 dollars. its a great record

  • @SuperElmoHunter IKR not as old as you but my mom had all his Albums, I grew up listening to his music and they are still hotttt!!!

  • @SuperElmoHunter yeah, I bought it, then gave it to my girl of the time - who is now looong gone - with my Grover album. DAMN!

  • i miss when music used to be a battle torwards a whole sound as a team

nowawdays its just mindless nonsense repeating itself

    FUCK electronic music!

  • @igessthsisgrwnup i agree about the overall path of music now, but "electronic music" can be just as amazing. using analog synths is one example or just people who truly appreciate the whole process is another... prince comes to mind as one who pioneered the use of "synths, electronics, drum machines, etc" to bring out the true potential. there's so much synth funk that's great. but i know what u mean about the music today it's garbage.

  • @eveningprim

    well FUCK TECHNO

  • hes passed away, no way, how come, somebody tell me please i feel so sad as hes unbelievable

  • He's Mister Magic..

  • omg i just discovered him , its outta sight man, i love him and his sax, wish he was still here....

  • The Best.....Simply The Best...........

  • One of the best music from Grover Washington Jr.

  • how come hes not with us anymore? brilliant

  • @bluesoulady He put all his heart into his work :) A great list of accomplishments and a productive career of a legend.

  • Grover is the man!

  • Cm, lots of pentatonic, but it's jazz, so there's alot of everything else as well.

  • Can anyone tell me what key this is in and what scale grover uses through the solos...?

  • Excelente músico Grover W.Jr; una clase magistral de smooth jazz; y que excelente grupo que está con él. Que maravilla es el jazz!!

  • im 12 and im listening to this while my friends listen to justin bieber and katy parry

  • @meeshella15 You recognise real music and that is very heart warming for me, unlike beber and so on which is regurgitated by music company executives. well done

  • Is there anyone Gadd hasn't played with? what a talent! Loved Grover the first time I heard him too, kinda like----- cool Jazz

  • 2:28 the bassist looks constipated

  • The signature song that was Grover Washington Jr....it created the legend that he was to become...in his time, the very finest jazz saxophonist of his day. I got to see him in concert during his last visit to Denver in the mid 90's....he did not disappoint us....!!!!!

  • Beautiful, . ah around 3:30 .. wooooo wow

and Anthony Jackson's bass oh man

but that's not Gadd on the kit

  • @Evestrough but not bad for not being Gadd, Steve...

  • I am not from this generation but I am so very sorry this man is not showing his talent anymore. I love music and my generation should stop and hear what the best sounds like.

  • @marqusturner He died 12 years ago. A friend of mine knows his brother.

  • @marqusturner Like Michael Jackson and so many others, they have left us the lasting gift of their work which we get to enjoy

  • @marqusturner He is late and his recordings live on..

  • @marqusturner I agree this is great music . I also play saxophone (alto to be exact) and i love jazz sax its just so full bodied and soulful.

  • @marqusturner I agree with your comment 100% your generation need to learn the quality of real music.

  • @marqusturner True my friend... Sadly true...

  • I miss Grover :(

  • Beleive it or not, I became a huge Grover Washington fan when I was a toddler!

  • I used to own a copy of Winelight the video, if your a fan you'll love it !

  • only gods plays like him!

  • grover bad!

  • My wife and I grew up with Mr.Grover Washington music !! God Bless! R.I.P.

  • My wife and I have seen Grover perform many times; but his performance at Villa Montalvo Winery in Northern California was one of the best. It was a very sad when I was told that Mr. Grover Washington died-so passed a part of me. No one will ever play the sax like him again...

  • My wife and I have seen Grover perform many times; but his performance at Villa Montalvo Winery in Northern California was one of the best.

  • That dude do know how to work that horn, don't he?

  • I love you Grover!

  • That's what you call "in the pocket!"

  • GOOSEBUMPS

  • Don't make music like this anymore, classic. Grover and Ronnie Laws were my idols when everyone else was listening to 'new romantic stuff.

  • Classic!!!!

  • DIDN'T MEAN TO FORGET RALPH!

  • all aspiring musicians seek out the MASTER ! i was FORTUNATE to cross paths with him in 1978 at the FOX THEATRE in ATLANTA , GA

  • @authentyx which master are you referring to GROVER, ANTHONY, STEVE, ERIC OR RICHARD ? THIS IS ONE HELL OF A LINEUP!

  • Grover Washington Jr. was great, but hey, check out that rhythm section!

  • I'm an old lady but I wasn't always that way. Once I was forty something and fell in love with a wonderful man. We ran away together around the time we'd discovered Grover and boy, did we groove to him. Sadly the big love of my life passed on. But there's no law against playing Winelight and remembering.

  • Keep playing Winelight and keep on remembering..it connects us to what makes us human and fresh through this journey call life.P.S. Age ain't nothing but a number it does not define you as OLD. There are many so call "Old folks" that are doing way better then folks way younger then they are.

  • @argaretbea you know... each end is the beginning of a new start...... ;-)

  • @Mischtchratzer What a wonderful sentiment. Love that.

  • @argaretbea God Bless you

  • @neilschaaf How kind. Obviously Grover is playing as I type this so my memories have kicked in: that's what music does to us - bypasses the brain's filters and hits the jugular. Hope Grover and my man are on some happy cloud together up there.

  • @argaretbea I remember and my loved one has passed and gone but this one of his favorite too.Much LOVE and BLESSINGS TO YOU.

  • @argaretbea You are not old, I'm 63 and I love this gay too.God bless you !!!!

  • @argaretbea your are not to old, I'm 63 and I also love this gay.God bless you !!!!!

  • @argaretbea That's right Sista!

  • @argaretbea YOU ARE NO WAY OLD YOU ARE GORGOUS AND FULL OF LIFE. NOW GO OUT THERE AND STRUT YOUR STUFF YOU SEXY THING LOVE AND KISSES TO YA WOMAN.

  • @frogeyeful Thanks for your kind comments. Of all the "takes me back" music, this is the strongest link.

  • @argaretbea Anyone of us should be so lucky to reach the Golden Years and still have the funk flowing through us!!!!! Teach the young-bloods ....You may be old but you're not cold!!!!!!!...ohhh the memories! I certainly have mine!!!! lol..........Keep Grooving!!! Peace...............Boss Lady!!!!!

  • @argaretbea No law at all. I can completely relate. Things didn't work out with us, but this tune brings back the good times.

  • @1jetdrvr Oh thanks. Bless.

  • @argaretbea I, too, am no spring chicken, but loved this album from the first time I heard it. Love every track on it and it all is some of the most beautiful music ever recorded. Listened to it on beautiful days in New Orleans while painting ... for hours on end. Gives me chill bumps to this day.

  • @TheDonnalovesmusic Thanks for your lovely comment which goes to show that Grover's music has no geographical boundaries. Our background scenery for the music was often the shade of an ancient oak in the garden of an old English cottage.

  • Grover had his own style and his own sound ..... When he played; you knew it was Grover ...

Grover the master of the saxophone .... Circular breathing could extend his musical thoughts well beyond the music ....

Thanks for posting marks6338 - - - There will never be another Grover ... RIP

  • man the neck must be really tight on the sax to keep with all the movement

  • absolutely incredible!

  • It´s so amazing listen great musicians like Grover,

He is saxo and saxo is Grover!, really love this song & version!

Masterpiece from Black Power ... It´s so unique !

  • This is an incredible perfomance by GWJr.! I also had two of his albums in college back in the 80's. My dormroom would get crowded whenever I was blastin my jazz albums. I'm Latino, but I was into jazz with an ecletic taste that transformed my Elementary-school friends into the jazz world.

  • first got into grover wahsington, jr back in early 80's when i left to go to college. i was the only white guy in my dorm that liked jazz. all my schoolmates asked me what i was doing listening to "black" music. i told them: "it's not black or white, man. it's jazz!" love this man's music!

  • One of the greatest jazz tracks ever recorded!! My introduction to a guy named Marcus Miller! I remember thinking "wtf???"Ever try to play this on Bflat clarinet? What a high!!!! Kudos to Bill Eaton and Ralph McDonald for writing this track. i've been a wine drinker ever since. "Aphex Aural Exciter".

  • WOW! Truly TALENT on loan from GOD!

  • He destroys that saxophone!

  • I cant tell but is he cycle breathing? Cause his cheeks randomly get puffy so I thought he was.

  • I cant tell but is he cycle breathing?

  • CAN'T NOBODY MAKE THE SAX SANG THE WAY THAT MAN COULD
