@RRM22 I agree that "there must be better reasons to Sign On," but there are soo many people out there who are more likely to take notice of a cause like this if they see celebrities involved... It's kinda a sad fact, but many people place celebrities on a pedestal and look up to them. So if using celebrities in a campaign is gonna get the attention of even just a few more people, I say go for it.
hahaha, orangutan2 you're an egg. why the hell would australia buy our coal when they're sitting on craploads of it and don't care about digging it up?
NZ generates most of its electricity HOW, Orangutan? Here's the quote from Wikipedia.
"The electricity sector in New Zealand uses mainly renewable energy sources such as hydropower, geothermal power and increasingly wind energy. The 70% share of renewable energy sources makes New Zealand one of the most sustainable countries in terms of electricity generation."
NZ doesn't export much coal to AU (but does to China.)
New Zealand generates more of it's electricity from coal than hydro. Coal is a major export of NZ to Australia and China. There are realities that people in NZ need to understand. If the majority of clothes the beautiful Lucy & Robyn are sporting in this video are made in China, and China uses NZ coal...doesn't that make coal sexy?
@orangutan2 l" If the majority of clothes the beautiful Lucy & Robyn are sporting in this video are made in China, and China uses NZ coal...doesn't that make coal sexy?" lol you must be from real rural new zealand...? do you have a gumboot and swandri fetish or something haha, most would hardly consider those items 'sexy'
am i the only one who finds the website you guys have made slightly ironic?
dont under mine new zealand? as in, you want to make sure we mine it well enough? no? i know its a play on words but slightly missing the mark for the sake of poetic detail is a bit slack..
chillyplasma - why if someone is opposed to mining should they not respond to the governments request for input on their plans for more mining? Those plans are real my friend and if we do nothing now that just means more mining messing up the place down the track. Awesome clip!
@chillyplasma Because that mining isn't happening in schedule 4 land and it's much easier to prevent land being taken out of schedule 4 than it is to stop mining that has already begun in other areas.
@chillyplasma Either way you're agreeing that the mining shouldn't be done, you'd just rather blame it on labour than national, I couldn't care less. More or less valuable conservation land is not just an abstract concept, it's based on ecological factors regarding the importance of the habitat it provides relative to the survival needs of the species which need it. I disagree that you'd go backwards before stopping what's happening now, otherwise you're just chasing mistakes forever.
@chillyplasma I already conceded that I didn't care whether it was labour or national who were doing it, it shouldn't be done. But the fact that someone didn't fight previous mining or aren't fighting all current mining does not invalidate their current argument, that's a logical fallacy.
@chillyplasma Nope. That's only valid if your argument here is that they are inconsistent. The problem with that is that it doesn't actually address the issue of mining in schedule 4 land which is what this video is about. It's an ad hominem fallacy attacking the character of the people making the video which doesn't actually address the argument against mining in schedule 4 land.
@waori If all you're trying to prove here is that the people are inconsistent with their approach to mining then fine, I couldn't care less. I am concerned with specifically the issue which is on the table, namely, the removal of certain areas from schedule 4 in order to exploit their resources.

Is this how we campaign now? Trying to ridicule people we disagree with?
And if the message is good, why do we need celebrity endorsements? There must be better reasons to Sign On than simply because Keisha & Lucy have?
I worry about the direction NZ greenpeace is taking.
