It's a very nice lens.... way cheaper than the Canon and performs just a tad slower than the Canon.. Low light situations it has good performance ...... just make sure you use a tripod when shooting long exposures.....

@erwin15erwin if there were vignetting, it should be when shooting 70mm, because it is the widest it can go, there for if the lens hood is too long, the would be some vignetting :) but it really is a good idea to do that if it works. For shooting against the sun its perfect :D
Great idea! I shoot a lot of volleyball outdoors and have the same problem with flaring cause sometimes the best angles can't avoid the sun! Nice Work!

All you need to use is regular black construction paper like I got from the dollar store.. I used 2 put on top of each other...... wrapped it around the lens hood and taped the seams together.... they I cut the end so that it was straight .... then I cut pattern like in the original hood.... it's that easy.... It took about 20-30 mins and works great!!!!
