Im positive she is female, although shes vocal she is behaving like a female when they are "courting" which is inviting to mate. She demonstrating EXACTLY what females do when inviting someone to mate. Two of my females do this and actually squawk, its the female version of singing, its all part of courtship.
@Calliope334 Cockatiels aren't sexually dimorphic, so it's not guaranteed that the males will always have features that the females don't have. I have a female that looks similar to this one. Definitely a female, she lays eggs. I think the only exotic birds like that are Eclectus Parrots. Males will always be green and females will always be red.
@Cockatielcutiepied I have a female the looks exactly like her and she makes similar sounds, not usually to me but she has a thing going with my parrotlet so I hear all kinds of mating noises lol. Is she young? Once she starts randomly laying eggs you'll know for sure lol.
I'm pretty sure that's a boy/male cuz of its cheeks and only boy cockteils talk not girls.he's so cute i have a baby boy cockteil his barely 3 months his name is Noah
@03070881 female cockatiels squawk, its the female version of singing, which is part of courtship, the way shes behaving with the noises is exactly what they do when inviting to mate. Its absolutely normal for a female to do this, its way different to when males sing.
@BCSpore Awww a cockatiel I had when I was young was named Chu Chu....'cause my dad collected trains and Chu Chu used to go chu chuuuuuuu lol. The two I have now are named Dewey and Scarlett. "I love them so much, but Chu Chu was a good bird too.
hi, i do agree with the others that it's "tweet tweet", however, may i point out that your bird is more likely to be a male, as female cockatiel's rarely talk, males talk, and do a wide range of whistles, to impress a possible mate. Thank You, awesome bird :)
going by feathers it looks like a male not a girl n color of cheeks n crest. u might wanna look into gender testing it if u want to know. i had my cockatiel gender tested threw its breast feathers cause we thought he was a girl to n turns out he is a boy lol
Wow... i cant imagine how hard it was for you to teach her this. Feminine animals are more... wild to say the least, always been always will be and they are harder to get to learn stuff than muskular... So kudos on that friend.
@ihasacaty obviously you don't know how to spell and you're uneducated. For an animal to say something, it needs to know what you want it to say. So, you say it to them. It's chirps are it talking. <: Dumbass.
@yeslyandmarla they all have orange cheeks. in a normal grey variety (which this cockatiel is NOT), the female's orange cheeks are a little harder to see than a male's, but are still there nonetheless.
Cheeks don't necessarily determine the gender. I had a gray cockatiel who facially looked like a male, fully yellow face and crest with bright orange cheeks (although it did have the barred tail feathers of a hen.
oh my... people can't get it through their heads... its just hard to tell whether birds or female or male... i see a lot of arguments about cockatiels gender... i believe shes a girl :) the owner knows best especially when it lays an egg lol boys can't lay an egg now can they ? lol
for those wondering i have owned cockatiels for the past 10 years and i have talked to numerous breeders and proffesionals the only way you can for sure tell the gender in a cockatiel is by getting it dna tested, or by waiting until sexual maturity which can be about 3-4 years old for a cockatiel. i have a true breeding pair 1 grey with a yellow face and 1 yellow(latino) her fave and head are just as bright if not brighter than his
I am pretty sure you are right. This is a female, i can tell because her cheeks arent that bright but just to make sure does she have spots under her tail/wings?
i think its not talking its just horny...i have female too and when it gets horny its standing like that and making same sound if you touch its upper back..you will see that it will cntinue to make same sound
with Lutino cockatiels the only colour difference between males and females is the 'bars' that the females have on the underside of their wings. I'm pretty sure non of you people saying 'That's a male' can see under her wings so maybe you should all rack off.
And females CAN talk, they just aren't as prolific at it. Male OR female could whistle this birds name.
she's so cute,i have a male lutino just like her...hey how do u keep dat bird so clean and shiny...i mean my birds feathers r turning grey from white...no matter how many baths i gave him...the dirt wont cum off...he was dirty when i bought him...n e tips on how to get his feathers nice and clean...widout harming him?
Drives me nuts when people post saying a cockatiel is not the sex the owner says it is. People, only the "normal" grays are easy to sex visually, and even then you can get fooled.
Generally, a female cockatiel doesn' talk unless there's a strong bond between her and the human, and usually the only bird of the house. Some birds are just more vocal because of personality. Females do talk, I have 2 cokatiels, male and female. The male is more vocal, but she has her times lol
awh. leilu can say "leilu" and "prettybird" he is a male tiel. and i do tink tht both male and females can talk just one is harder to teach then the other maybe?
That's true. Females are naturally quiet; males are the ones who usually "talk." Males are known for having the rosy cheeks too. Females usually have gray stripes on the underside of their tailfeathers, but I didn't see any. The only way to be absolutely sure is to do a bird DNA test, which is very expensive and somewhat moot. Females can talk and sing just as much as boys can, if the time and effort is put in to teach them! I am a breeder, and I have a four month old cinnamon chick that can say "hey" and is trying to piece together "pretty girl".
yes lutino are the yellow ones....I have owned cockatiels for a while and can definitely tell from the calls its doing and how it looks especially in the head/cheek area...definitely a female! :)
your bird is beautiful i just rescued one actually so now i have 3 males and 1 female all 3 talk like little chatterboxes and the female spends her time in her box my white pied male is actually in the box alot too they um had eggs i have one baby cockatiel in there its adorable watching it grow is magic it came out smaller than its egg by the end of the day it had feathers and was bigger than its egg
no thats a female there hard to tell if they have the recessive pied trate i have to pied 1 male one female both have yellow faces....that is def a female males have spotted wings and females have solid colored wings females can talk but not very common nor is it usually clear my female talks like that whenever the male leaves
@jaitodd actually the propper way to tell is that females have stripey tails and males have black or dark grey. also this video is rubbish it's not saying it's name it's just goin tweet tweet
@michelangelo466 lol, your comment is rubbish. visual sexing is not 100% accurate, it depends on the color mutation plus, when the bird lays an egg, it is pretty apparent that she is a girl.
@pengeralus o well done what a great comeback. also duh of course animals are girls if the produce offspring. also my entire family have animal degrees and also i have lived with domestic animals and cockatiels since i was born so i do know somethin.
also that bird is not sayin it's name cos my tame cockatiel does the same thing
@ChaosRayZero my male screams like a little bitch when you hold his wings and my female just lays there with not a sound. my female also whistles and sings. and yes, both birds are the sexes i have stated.
That's what I said. =^p The only 100% accurate test is to see if the bird lays an egg. Just because females USUALLY don't sing or talk and are USUALLY fussier doesn't mean that applies to them ALL. ;^)
@jaitodd i also have a female cockatiel that has succesfully bred with a male.. her head is the brightest yellow possible with a bright orange spot.... its insulting to a lot of people to think that you know more about their own bird than they do
I'm not sure what your asking but this is definatly a female cockatiel. She laid an egg last spring and males tend to whisle and are louder, she is a pretty quiet bird. My males seem to whistle at her and do their male stuff so that's how I know she is a she. I belive she is about 3 years old. Her name is tutu
@sexyfufutoo she is most probally a lutino cockatiel, hense y she looks like a male. i have a female that looks just like urs. does ur gorgeous girl have red / dark maroon eyes if she does then she is definately a lutino
@sexyfufutoo I have a female tiel and her name is Tootchie and we call her Toot Toot, lol. She has a yellow face and talks and sings all the time. @Jaitodd I know one thing, tiels come with their own rules so you can't say only males do this and only females do that. Whatever their personality is that's what they do.:)) You can't base a standard on any animal, they will surprise you. Back @Sexyfufutoo TuTu is very pretty :D Thanks you for posting.
@alfonso908 lol... so do females... haha for everyone saying that this is a male because it has a yellow head, or orange cheek or whatever.. this is a LUTINO cockatiel. Lutinos lack the grey pigmentation and they ALL have bright orange cheeks. male or female. .but. most lutinos are in fact females.. males are less common in the lutino colouring.. plus she laid an egg and it also looks very much like she is hen squatting.. (about to present herself - which they do to favoured humans!)
Lol, my birds looks EXACTLY the same!

2. Wait until it lays an egg
3. Pick it up and hold its wings down with your hands. Males are usually calm about that while females tend to squawk their heads off. =^p
The egg is the only test that's 100% accurate. Males are also more likely to sing and talk, but that doesn't mean girl birds can't do it. ;^)
ChaosRayZero 1 year ago
@ChaosRayZero my male screams like a little bitch when you hold his wings and my female just lays there with not a sound. my female also whistles and sings. and yes, both birds are the sexes i have stated.

@nightengaleprincess
That's what I said. =^p The only 100% accurate test is to see if the bird lays an egg. Just because females USUALLY don't sing or talk and are USUALLY fussier doesn't mean that applies to them ALL. ;^)

@jaitodd Cockatiel lutino are yellow (limit white) with yellow face. There are no physical differences between the male and the female lutino ;-)

@jaitodd she looks like a lutino, so she has a bright face like a male. i have a all yellow lutino with bright orange cheeks
HighRewards 1 year ago
@jaitodd no cockatiels come in a whole bunch of different colors and she gave u proof that it was a girl
TheDragonzRider 1 year ago
@jaitodd i also have a female cockatiel that has succesfully bred with a male.. her head is the brightest yellow possible with a bright orange spot.... its insulting to a lot of people to think that you know more about their own bird than they do
dudeinasuit1 10 months ago
@jaitodd female are not supposed to be black or gray STUPID!!!!!!
none99ful 9 months ago
@jaitodd Yeah, if it's a normal grey-variety cockatiel, but lutinos like this one usually look the same, whether they're male or female.

u can only cause she laid a egg???????I want to know more about ur baby cockatiel or grown up cockatiel
lazybut99 3 years ago
I'm not sure what your asking but this is definatly a female cockatiel. She laid an egg last spring and males tend to whisle and are louder, she is a pretty quiet bird. My males seem to whistle at her and do their male stuff so that's how I know she is a she. I belive she is about 3 years old. Her name is tutu

Back @Sexyfufutoo TuTu is very pretty :D Thanks you for posting.

all lutino's have visible orange cheeks on their faces.unlike the other breeds.
lyanasmile 3 years ago
tahts a male bceause males have the orange thing on their cheek anf females.
alfonso908 3 years ago
It's a female because she laid an egg all on her own. She doesn't whistle either and shes quiet as females tend to be. :)
sexyfufutoo 3 years ago
@alfonso908 lol... so do females... haha for everyone saying that this is a male because it has a yellow head, or orange cheek or whatever.. this is a LUTINO cockatiel. Lutinos lack the grey pigmentation and they ALL have bright orange cheeks. male or female. .but. most lutinos are in fact females.. males are less common in the lutino colouring.. plus she laid an egg and it also looks very much like she is hen squatting.. (about to present herself - which they do to favoured humans!)
