Once you understand how extremely different they are it becomes clear that the whole truth about the period, the Germans -- and Hitler -- has been deliberate repressed for political reasons. The book shows how many roads the NSDAP straightened out around Muenchen, dirt roads they paved, and new bridges they built. It is impressive. How that plays in to nationality, I am not sure. There are three or so likely results. Culture should in any case be strengthened

Those third world countries struggle to get food for their people. @vaughan1978 First, I doubt that you have any idea of the lift that gave to the German people when Hiltler lifted them from a 31% unemployment in 1932 to full employment in about 30 months, and did NOT use the military buildup for the purpose. (He used house renovations and transport capital works and did NOT indebt Germany in doing it but used the unemployed labour. Second, the US went from being the world top creditor nation to the biggest DEBTOR NATION in record time.

That has taken the US debt to horrendous heights and put it onto the same track as Italy, Greece, Spain, etc. If you think that is doing well, you have a very low standard of "doing well".

Once you understand how extremely different they are it becomes clear that the whole truth about the period, the Germans -- and Hitler -- has been deliberate repressed for political reasons. @historatia Well stated. I have a book "Muenchen Baut Auf", written in 1938. The book shows how many roads the NSDAP straightened out around Muenchen, dirt roads they paved, and new bridges they built. It is impressive. The upgrade to the urban transportation system had to make movements of goods and people easier.
Also the book has a number of outstanding but otherwise unpublished pictures of Mssrs Mussolini and Hitler. They both look vigorous, healthy, and engaged.

The NSDAP methods promoted a form of controlled "liberalism".

I agree that the military build-up cannot account for economic progress of Deutschland of the1930's. In fact even in 1941 Deutschland had not put its economy on war footing! I see no reason why these same deeds cannot be duplicated in Europe once again for the good of people, from Cordoba to Vladivostock....

In today's world, only the Germans, and Chinese (perhaps the Japanese in part) have enough "discipline" to prevent healthy "competition" in economic affairs -- responding to longer term economic objectives -- from becoming unethical collective destruction such as that which "Wall Street" greed visits on the US economy regularly --with its concentration of "quarterly profits".
