Well, actually, by definition, Iraq IS free - they have a democratically elected government and have even recently took over the much heralded Green Zone.

It's extremist elements in Iraq that are causing the security issues, and Iraqis WILL have to take responsibility for their own actions and future path.

And who is threatening Afghani freedom? The NATO forces (there are a number of nations involved there), or the Talebans who threaten the countryside?

It's a much more complicated situation.

Yes or no: Did Iraqis vote for their current government? If the answer is yes, then Iraqi HAS self-determination. This has nothing to do with "the way I think." Iraq is emerging out of a US and British invasion - that much is obvious. SO troops from both nations are still there, but they are slated to withdrawal.

Elements from many different parties are currently involved in running Iraq, and some of them are not strongly "pro-America." That is why the Iraq government has been negotiating for the removal of US forces. Which, at this point, most Americans want.

The problem is that folks who oppose the US involvement do not seem to keep up with events in Iraq.

Right after 9-11, I was angry and supported military intervention. As time went on, I started to hear more information about the lack of WMDs in Iraq and possible deceit by the US government, so I changed my position. Now, I am a pragmatist about the situation - leave now, as in today, and the problems get worse.

The use of force in Afghanistan made more sense and the Taleban are jerks, as well.

I am not pro-war, as a person, so it wasn't normal for me to support the use of military force.

Well, the main idea behind the invasion wasn't the building of nukes by Iraq, but the possession of WMDs. Since the 90's, it was believed Iraq still possessed these weapons, and Saddam didn't help with his errant behavior. (Though we know now that Hans Blix, the main UN inspector, didn't agree with the notion that Iraq still possessed these weapons.)

I think it is a matter of 1) bad intentions, and 2) old/bad intel. Even some Europeans felt that Saddam had WMDs.

Actually, the US hasn't got back ANY money from Iraq. If anything, the US has poured BILLIONS of US taxpayers money into reconstruction projects and paying for the police and Iraq military.

This has not been a profitable war for the US government and people. It has been profitable for the war profiteers, though, and munition makers.

We also have to remember that most Iraqis have died from Shiite/Sunni death squads, suicide bombers, and Al-Qaida in Iraq. They must be held accountable as well.

it is a fact that many of the us congress helped family members get contracts in iraq making obscene profits from tax payers money. for example contracts that should have cost $10.000 were paid 12 million dollers. this is why i am so anti american or at least one of the reasons and this wasnt just a one of case.

I have researched this subject a bit, and most of the contracts were through organizations such as the Carlyse Group. The majority of members of congress are not involved with the Military Industrial complex, also know as the "Iron Triangle."

BUT, even if they are not directly involved, they play the game with voting for military budgets and military pork barrel spending.

Unfortunately, the arms trade is a world wide problem.

Now, I don't think we should just invade ANYONE because we deem them to be "evil." But, at that time, at least there was a Bin Laden - Afghanistan connection, unlike Iraq.

I have read 9-11 conspiracy stuff for years, and until actual proof is put forward, I am going to abstain from fully believing that the US government intentionally pulled off the attack.

We do know that Al-Qaida and Bin Laden were behind other attacks, though. And Al-Qaida has taken credit for the 9-11 attacks.

It's one of those "show me" type issues at this point.

One interesting note: the supposed organizer of the London Subway bombings were being protected by Mi-6.
