  • COOL!

  • You got that, man, should have had it go longer though.

  • This cat is going to be a force to be dealt with as a bassist.

  • What are the notes for this riff, and what chords go with it?

  • Very good job! I love this song

  • nice son

  • Nicely done!

  • God, I love Flora Purim. This is a great song.

  • OH MY GOD!

subschool5, you make it look so easy!

    I am jealous!

    LOL! :)

I love this song and I've been trying to learn this bass line for years but I still sound very sloppy.

You're using a 5-string bass but it was originally recorded with a 4-string. Are you hitting the low B-string?

I'd love to hear this played on my Rickenbacker 4001.

I got turned on to this album when I bought my 1977 Lincoln Town Car. It came with about 45 8track tapes.

  • Thanks for your video. It gave me a lot of inspiration. My work is on the same path but still different.

    Good luck from Stefan Pöntinen

    J.M.Valdez

  • That shit is tight. Nice work man.

  • I only bought the LP (back in the day) because Alphonso was on the bass.

You did it right. Well done.

    Best song on the album.

  • never heard this version of the song before, but your playing is excellent, man.

  • YAH YAH live

great line; great tone. as for the background sounds, i think they're probably quika drum; flora is from brazil.

  • Great job! thats some great tone!!!

  • Quika drum, thanks for your insight.

  • @onamisrae Cuica is the Brasilian spelling.

  • nice job! this is one of my favorite all time tunes let alone bass lines...wish you posted the whole thing!

  • thanx again for your comment on darling dear.and I see u got som cool bass lines, great work!...

  • Good work! I am really unaware of this artist. But the bass lines are really interesting!

  • your fantastic, you have opened my eyes to so many great bass songs, and songs, but can i ask you a question, in this song is that dogs and cats barkings and meowing lol?

  • lol, might be birds

  • There you got. I have been listening to the jam for over 20 years. Awesome. I never realized it was Alphonso Johnson. I was looking for him for years. Stories to Tell rock. Maybe I wish this was longer.

  • I can't say I've been listening to this for 20 years yet but it's certainly a good one. This was recorded right after Flora got out of jail for an alleged drug possession. As you can hear, Alphonso and Duke got to know each other very well during their stint together. My favorite Flora Purim standard is 500 Miles High.

  • Dude. You're OFFICIAL!!!

    Won your Medal.

  • Where I lack in playing I make it up in trivia.

  • lmao!!! I gotta use that one!!!

    Nice job!!! btw

  • Ooh nice! It's hard to believe but that album is over 30 years old. It's some great stuff and 'Open your eyes, you can fly' is an awesome tune. I'm pretty sure it was Alphonso Johnson,,yes? Anyway, you've got great taste and you did a super job on this one in terms of technique and tone. Thanks for taking us down this musical path.
