He is also the most coolest–looking motherfucker ever. I saw him perform live in London. I think he performed for about 5–6 minutes before his microphone packed in. He lobbed it to one side and walked offstage. Brilliant stuff.
i remember i went to a music/instrument shop, then i went to the rehersal room, and took all the pedals i found there to max eq and volume and everything, got some real good noise out of it.
You see all these noise artists with a table full of pedals and a whole mess of cables and wires and then you look at how simplistic Masonna's set-up is... But he still manages to put on the most captivating performance of any noise musician out there.
Well, the thing about noise is that it gives the musician absolute freedom in creating sounds. Generally its desired to pursue as much of an escape to traditional music as possible, thus you end up with what most people call noise. See it like a sculpture or a landscape that you can hear.
Affirmative. Very correct on that. Really like Merzbow over massona coz the latter just give it a nonsense try just to capture the public to be the god of noise, but the god of corny noise indeed.
i don't think what he pass a non-sense impression of noise music or something like that, trying to be the god of noise, he had a very unique style,i like these forms of manipulation of a raw channel of noise and use of effects and repetitions... is so fuckin freak intense
you know I heard Merzbow and Masonna did a collaboration once. I been looking high and low for it myself, but I do have say Merzbow is my favorite of the two yet you can't deny the fun of watching Masonna trash around.
Sorry to sound like a spazz, but even if I think of this as just noise; it has a calming mediatating kind of feel to it in a way. Its almost as if I can listen to this and it relaxes my mind. I actually like it.
Masonna absolutely is art. But its more like a rock performance than the fruity peta-loving crap merzbow does. Its all about the chaos of it. If you can't apreciate that than you're not watching the right thing..
I don't agree with Secret Theatre, but I can't believe people have neg--repped him for expressing a thought--out opinion in a reasonable and debate--like manner.
What the hell? I could do the same thing if I had a couple amps and some cats to grab by the tail and smash against the wall while I scream like a banshee, but I doubt anyone would call it music.
Okay I'll just send him a letter. "Dear Mr. Awesome Maso, please fly a plane over to Canada and play a live show in a venue that isn't 18+. Sincerely, some kid."
Isn't that just a Japanese man shouting and swirling around to some noise? I mean, that's fine if that's what you like, but don't call it art. If you don't call it art I've no problem with it. Probably quite cathartic.
Well, art is not the 'mere' expression of an emotion. Standing on a stage screaming and flinging your body about is an expressive act, but art need not express anything. And the point, I suppose, is that this is JUST expression - there's no aesthetic content at all. I'm not criticising that, I think it's fine if you like it and get a cathartic release from it. But art has to be something more than merely letting out a bunch of pent-up feelings.

So does that mean that everything's relative in art? I disagree with that. I think there are objective criteria by which we can judge, if not good art from bad art (which might well be a matter of opinion), then certainly between what IS art and what is NOT. I doubt the stuff in this video is art. Merzbow's stuff, however, probably IS. But of course that's not to deny that people can find huge value in things like this. I just disagree that it relates to anything we'd normally call 'art'.
i love masonna, and i think he's music is not just "art" or such sort of thing... It is, "vielmehr", desconstruction, destruction of ordinary "Art". And this concept is not quiet new, in these days. You must learn "Art" history, i think.
Im only saying that as thinking beings, we create our own realities. Theres no big slab of holy stone floating around the universe defining the meaning of art, lol xD Humans created the concept of art, so we decide what it does and doesnt mean.
I agree in a way, but that argument is a 'cop-out' used by a lot of inferior talents. I mean, just because we can't 'define' what art is doesn't mean we don't know a piece of art when we experience it. Art's ambiguous and often intangible, certainly, but it doesn't necessarily follow from that that 'anything' is art. Saying that 'anything can be art' amounts to saying that 'anything can be anything'.
Most live noise "performances" are, well, boring. Especially more recent ones, which are just a few people standing in front of an audience, pushing buttons on their laptops.
THIS however, is amazing!
Wow. There is a reason Masonna is called the God of Noise. :)

la cagó este japonés culiao, esta entero años-luz de nosotros que todavia estamos pegados en el metal...sin duda esto es lo que va a escuchar mi hijo y yo le dire "hijo esto no es musica es pura bulla"...
Cool. I prefer the older stuff from him, I think he's a little bit burnt out now. But. One of the greatest "realtime-action-performers" ever. Respect.
HOLY FUCK! I thought he like retired or something. He's like 49 fucking years old now! This is the most insane Masonna video I've ever seen! I'm going to be thinking about this all year now. It's most unfortunate to know that's probably the whole Masonna show.
I can't stop watching this over and over again. You're right, VomiteSelf7, this sounds awesome... and his energy! My God I so want to have experienced that show live. Loving the raw noise 50 seconds in!
If by noise you mean an unconfortable sound, for me, pop music is noise.

Most things are subjective; art is one of those things o.o
We all have different views on what it is, and not one of those views is right. At the same time, not one of those views is wrong.
Whats right to you is whats right to you, but that doesnt mean its right to EVERYONE.
