This is due to cross winds and as you can see the pilot does a great job trying to adjust at the last minute but fails.I would say it is a great recover. Look at the plants in the vid and how much they sway. The plane experiences the winds much more than the plants does so you can imagine the impact of the cross winds on that bird..

I know about planes, this happens do to high wind speeds. as you see the plane cant fly straight in as the wing hit the pavement for a short time. he did a great job..

Actually Eury, you can just go 'aw it aint happening' if it's in the interest of safety for the passengers and the aircraft. From what I can see here the pilot would have been better to go around straight away because he seemed too high and given the gusty conditions should have performed a go around and tried again...but that's from what I see here, I'm sure it was different and he's a qualified pilot I'm just a guy doing a PPL :P lol

That's not a bad crosswind, You idiots don't even know what you are talking about.. Observe 0:01 To 0:12, the winds are pushing that Lufthansa really hard, NO this isn't a stunt.. because it's a Commercial airliner. The pilot has to go through intense training before he's behind the wheel of a Boeing 777-400.

You can't just let an inexperianced pilot fly a Commersial Airliner, Therefor this was NOT a bad crosswind.

With 21 years of airline experience, I can say that this happens more frequently then people know. Though this video shows an extreme close call and a "go around", it is not uncommon to have to land in crosswinds with 25-30 knots. After this attempt, it would not have surprised me for the Captain to divert. For fun between flights, we use to watch plane after plane land in tough crosswinds at DCA. Pretty nerve racking!

Nose into the wind, tip the wing to counter and line up with the runway for a landing. You need to come in high, but could have set it down faster and avoided this. This is a difficult landing, and I am sure the pilot's heart was sped up. Once the wind took it that far off the centerline, it was a wise choice to go around. Wish I was the pilot, but glad I was not a passenger.

This is real, I work for the airlines and have seen many landings. The airplane was doing ok as long as the nose was facing diagonally to the wind but as soon as it lined up with the runway the side wind lifted the right wing up. I agree with bweafer23 that the pilot should not have tried to land but it is also true that either the pilot did a great job at avoiding a crash or the computer took over. In the airbuses the computer can take over to make correction actions.
