Google sucks, YouTube sucks (at least for me anyways) I can't watch a video on this crappy site anymore without it stopping at least 20 times. I can watch whole movies on other sites that are 900MB with no interruptions but YouTube with its crappy player; practically zero buffering it's abysmal. Normally I just download them and watch them after the download. I think Google is not keeping up with the demand and maybe i'm alone with this problem.
I've flown into San Francisco a few times and it always seems like you're going to land in the water but then the runway appears at the last second! lol
such control of an oversized vehicle moving so fast. Nice. However, doesn't the rate of descent seem a smidge too fast? At 5:04 it goes: "100 . . . . 50..40..30.20.10" ...?
Not really. A airplane (exspecially a big one) suffers from ground effect. It sounds to simple to be true but it is true. When a airplane encounters a surface it creates ground effect. The air is compressed beneath the surface areas of the airplane creating ground lift. This means that under any weather circumstance a greater lift pushes from the ground. In some scenarios (like in specific winding conditions + alot of heat) a big jumbojet can even reject landing for this effect.
@Armigo91: hm, yes, ground effect needs to be suppressed; I see what you mean. Incidentally, there's some videos of some Soviet era planes relying on ground effects---"ekranoplan" they called it.
1090 stemmen voor leuk, 10 stemmen voor niet leuk ............Hoe kan dit NIET leuk zijn????? Leuk om bij u in de cockpit te mogen meekijken. Veel succes en ik hoop nog mooie approaches te mogen beleven. Blijf vooral filmen!!!
@newalm neither. It's meaning to retard the throttle to idle. Look at the throttle when they say it, you will see them pull it back all the way. Gotta raise the pilots self esteem, doesn't it.
when you aligned urself with RWY 28R ..its a visual approach..so hw do u align urself with the centerline of the runway. also.the minimums for that RWY would b diff ,depending upon the type of approach..or the minimums called here are decided by the company..
Great video! I grew up up the hill from SFO in San Bruno. Been to all those places you flew over to watch aircraft flying into SFO. One time I don't know why but a B-52 Bomber came in for a landing and landed then took off again. May have had problems. Thanks for sharing! Love it
One question for you SuredT...when the flight computer says "Minimums"..when you approach 28R..what does that mean? Just curious. Excellent video here of SFO approach. The only time I flew into SFO was over the bay with the downtown skyline outside my window before banking right to line up with 28L.
@mightymac63 Minumums is like v1 at takeoff but on landing, it's when you don't have time or space to clear the ground before you would hit so if you were past minums and you tried to go around the chances are your hit the ground before you can start to climb so when minums is sied you can't go-around safely. Hope this answers your question:)

@mightymac63 Minimums is another word for decision height I believe (someone will correct me if I'm wrong i hope) i.e. the altitude/difference from the runway where you make the final decision on whether to land or not. Hope that helps :)
I know the air routes of the heavies that fly in from overseas. They come in from the coast, head north over Mountain View and Sunnyvale, and turn west near Moffett Field for final approach.
good landings my name is Thomas and live on Zürich Switzerland i fly on 15 may with KLM from Zürich to Tanzania via Amsterdam i hope you are too on bord thank you my email boesgi@yahoo.de
I love this video. I first flew into SFO from YUL in 2000 to meet my future wife. At one point during the landing, the KLM 747 passes by Foster City on the left where my mother in law lives. Many times I have stood in her driveway and watched the planes, KLM and others, come in to land. I still do the same thing whenever we go to visit. This video brings back so many happy thoughts. It's nice to know what's going on inside the plane that I am watching from the outside. Thank you very much
Well I think you're a real pilot , Im practicing a lot in Flight Sim X but im sure in real life it's really different but I think you just have to say your intention , flight position and you'll be ok for landing , and maintain a speed like 190-180 knots for landing with flaps at 300. You're lucky to be a pilot of a 747. Unfortunately I don't have my strenght math , But I'll do anything to be a pilot, I know I can
tell me please who make videos from cockpit like this one? Is that the pilot with his camera or some passenger gave him a camera or what? Maybe it's a stupid question but I'm not sure... And is it legal to do something like that?
@wisnu1231 because there's good weather... How bored would you get having flown 12 hours on autopilot, and then get to your final approach, and do that on autopilot as well. Pilots fly manual approaches as often as possible... I feel sorry for the british pilots who have to land in low vis every day.
Two questions - you call for speed brakes immediately after touchdown - I thought you usually armed them before landing so they'd deploy automatically? Also, what's the max ground speed of a 747 at which you can turn off the runway onto an exit ramp?
OK, I lied - third question - when's your next video coming?
@deino117 I thought they said "Speed brakes up" for confirmation or shmth :), this would be the spoilers, not the actual brakes. pls correct me if im wrong
@Sokeresa This time I did note that he said "speed brakes armed" earlier in the approach. So you're right - the post-touchdown readout is to confirm the spoilers have in fact deployed.
He hands control over to his copilot earlier on, I think. Didn't notice that before. And she's the one who confirms the decision to land, if I hear correctly.
You're videos are awesome man, i just gotta ask one thing. What cost index do you KLM 747 pilots put in? Or is it depending by the range of the route?
@kanwar916 well actually there's something called ILS landing, some runways do have an ILS frequency which the pilots can typ in their radio stack as approach hold, this brings the airplane close to the runway and on final the pilot turns it off, make a little flare and land
When I think of everything you guys do and everything you have to know to do it, it's no wonder to me you're among the most highly esteemed professionals on the planet, right up there with doctors. And I think once air travel is superseded (by what, I have no idea - teleportation? anti-gravity craft??) people will look back on landing one of these craft as a huge, unbelievable achievement.
I have no idea of the work involved, and the moments of fear - but would you say your job is "fun"?
@deino117 My friend is high school was the biggest pot head you could ever meet.. When he he finally grew up in his 30's, he got his Commercial Pilots licence.. So you really don't have to be a rocket scientist to be able to fly..Right Terry??
One Question, You said in the Video "Glide Slope Capture" But it was a Visual Approach, To my Knowledge i thought a GlideSlope Capture was when it was a IFR Approach using an ILS Frequency to straighten the plane and put a right glide slope angle of approach... Just asking :)
@SuredT Oh Ok Thank you for telling me that , im just a kid wanting to be a pilot in the future, i did not understand somethings, thank you for commenting that :)
@JohnBet11 Part 121 FAA regs require that flights be on or above glide slope during approach, where applicable. Even in VMC, you still use Loc/GS radios and instruments.
I am a big fan of your videos. Please, can you tell me something about the pilot training? Is it really so hard and expensive to become a pilot of B747 and so on?
@SuredT I have a Q. You have talk about landing in Bangkok, then you are someplace in E, next you're landing at St. Martin. I asked my dad ( retired 747-400 check pilot ), my uncle ( retired 777 ) different airline, why do you guys go all over. They both said they have never heard of landing at all these airports like you stated. You either get the E route or South America or the Asian etc... How did where you able to fly to all those different airports?

One question sir. At :47 you disengage the autopilot. And, at 1:45 the PNF announces "Localizer captured". Since you were on the visual, is it still proper procedure to call "Localizer Captured" even though the aircraft was not being controlled by the localizer?
Hey nice video, Can you tell me when to disengage the auto pilot? Is there a certain time or do you just do it when your ready? Also when do pilots do auto land?
@averredude101 the majority of pilots do a visual (manual) landing especially long haul flights as they just sit around doing nothing. A ILS landing is done commonly in bad weather or on short flights. Its totally to pilots discression so its hard to say :)
Flying planes doesn't seem all that difficult....especially now with all the latest technology. Is this true? If I had to do it over again, I would have become a pilot. Do you think 43 is too late to realize my dream?
@gowestward1 Most likley yes too old :( but it is a lot harder than it looks but its not impossible :) if you want to follow your dreams all i can say is go for it. Start with private lessons see if you like them :)
I'm just an aviation enthusiastic in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and I've been flying (not on the cockpit of course) teh 747 from Rio (GIG) to CDG sometimes. Just to thank you for posting these videos (guess I saw all you've posted) and just a request, if possible, posting CAT III, and more bad weather (I'm a weather meteorologist) landings and take offs. Do you have any SYD video? Thanks again for all !
@mrfloppyjoe LAX (4 parallel), Minneapolis, Gatwick, Vegas, Denver, and Heathrow immediately come to mind as airport with parallel runways. I'm sure there are more.
@piliage Just a small correction if I may: Gatwick is a single-runway airport, and at Heathrow one runway is used for landings while the other for takeoffs, alternating once a day at 3pm.
@sevyalex you can use electronics on the plane but not all kinds of electronics.you can't use electronics that has some kind of internet connection.unless its a wi-fi plane lol :3.
@sevyalex its all just B/S so they dont have ringtones and stuff going off. if the equipment of one of the worlds largest plane would fail because of a cellphone, Boeing would need to rethink.
@junior1234542 yeah i already know i was to lazy to read the other comments i found it was KLM. Corsair and klm have the same colors :) so figuring by the colors It can be either.
Nice video.

MyNevermindme 1 year ago
so, when you side step, you swith the ILS frequency for the new rwy or are you just manually doing the approach?
MrSunlander 1 year ago
Where do you press for brakes? I never saw it in an aircraft
MusicLover11325 1 year ago
@MusicLover11325 you press both pedals at the same time
paps737 1 year ago
@paps737 Oh, The rudder pedals? Thanks. I also use Flight Simulator X. But it's pretty close to real life

@510mexicana It could be KLM 605 from Amsterdam Schipol, yes.

One question sir. At :47 you disengage the autopilot. And, at 1:45 the PNF announces "Localizer captured". Since you were on the visual, is it still proper procedure to call "Localizer Captured" even though the aircraft was not being controlled by the localizer?

Hey, thanks for posting this SuredT. The passengers don't get to see what goes on up there in the cockpit...
Darkrunner1975 1 year ago
Hey nice video, Can you tell me when to disengage the auto pilot? Is there a certain time or do you just do it when your ready? Also when do pilots do auto land?
averredude101 1 year ago
@averredude101 the majority of pilots do a visual (manual) landing especially long haul flights as they just sit around doing nothing. A ILS landing is done commonly in bad weather or on short flights. Its totally to pilots discression so its hard to say :)
pvpfiish 1 year ago
That´s the benefit of a visual approach ........ you can easily swing to the other runway.
Is that right ....... I hear a lady´s voice in the cockpit????
Very nice.

Hey whats the usual speed for taxiing thanks!
jerhmmmm 1 year ago
@jerhmmmm 10-20kts. Max 10kts for turning
pvpfiish 1 year ago
Why is it that they tell you to turn off all wireless communication devices on a plane? Does it mess up navigation? And how does side step work?

Flying planes doesn't seem all that difficult....especially now with all the latest technology. Is this true? If I had to do it over again, I would have become a pilot. Do you think 43 is too late to realize my dream?
gowestward1 1 year ago

@tornadotomas. Nothing, the main deceleration is by brakes.

@SuredT but how about the speed breaks?...
jerhmmmm 1 year ago
@jerhmmmm the spoilers...
jerhmmmm 1 year ago
@SuredT It might not matter on R 28R but just be sure not to hold to that theory in the rain on a much shorter runway my friend.

is this the only airport in the world where planes land side by side..
mrfloppyjoe 1 year ago 2
@mrfloppyjoe LAX (4 parallel), Minneapolis, Gatwick, Vegas, Denver, and Heathrow immediately come to mind as airport with parallel runways. I'm sure there are more.
piliage 1 year ago
@piliage Just a small correction if I may: Gatwick is a single-runway airport, and at Heathrow one runway is used for landings while the other for takeoffs, alternating once a day at 3pm.

Can you explain why electronics are forbidden in the cabin when you guy upfront are playing with camera recorder when the cockpit should be sterile ?
sevyalex 1 year ago 3
@sevyalex. Everything with an antenna is forbidden, the rest is OK.
SuredT 1 year ago 13
@sevyalex you can use electronics on the plane but not all kinds of electronics.you can't use electronics that has some kind of internet connection.unless its a wi-fi plane lol :3.
roju0229 1 year ago
@sevyalex its all just B/S so they dont have ringtones and stuff going off. if the equipment of one of the worlds largest plane would fail because of a cellphone, Boeing would need to rethink.
bajesus666 1 year ago
@sevyalex Videocameras do not affect radio signal or plane electronics
