I'm pretty sure it's in open G. So that is either DGDGBD, or some other configuration. maybe GBDGBD. The former is easier to switch from standard with.

Good call. Yeah, Open G on a Dobro (playing it with that really high nut/action) is GBDGBD. Open G for Blues style resonator/bottleneck is usually DBGDGD.

well open G tuning will make it impossible to make minor chords, but you can tune your guitar in D5 (DADDAD) or E5 (EBEEBE) which is neither minor or major. you get a cool john butler treat-yo-mama sound

An open G-tuning could be DGDGBD instead of EADGBE, which is a normal tuning :)

And yes, you can use this tuning on almost any kind of guitar, but guitars with steel strings would be better for slide guitar.
