& what was i sayin'....? lol.

  • Far better than the original!

  • does anyone know when this was released?

  • @HyuugaK B side from 12" Private Life/She's lost control 1980 nassau

  • @Frdzik1 thanks!

  • well i never thought I'd hear a reggae version of a JD song. I'm sure Ian C is proud as he liked reggae

  • For some reason, Im sportin' wood!

  • jup,this does something

  • that's one wicked bitch! kuul

  • To all Ian Curtis worshippers ripping apart Grace Jones' innovative take on this track, please remember that it was Martin Hannett's production that gave the JD version any real force. Were it not for Hannett's intervention, the band's full potential would never have been realised.

  • Awesome!

  • wow i like this!

  • Animal!

  • she scares me

  • I FUCKING LOVE THIS SHOT HERE

  • Cheers

  • She completely redefined this song and made it her own, this is one of they best covers of a song I have ever heard

  • Grace Jones + Sly and Robbie + Joy Division..holy hell kill me now..because I'll never be this happy again.

  • NIKKI MINAJ + LAGY GAGA = GOTTA PAY HOMAGE !!!!!

  • @kinstube = unoriginal hacks

  • @kinstube : Why even come up with those trash here ?

  • YESSSSSS !!!!!

  • wow, so bold, not surprising i suppose, good on her i say. joy division don't want all their fans to sit and mope all day long

  • A Quentin Tarentino movie...and PIL Memories

  • Grace Jones and I are fans of Joy Division! That's so Rad! I feel good today :) I want this song to be in a movie.

  • controllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll

  • she makes every song her own and this is no exception lol

  • omg.... it's horrible!

  • great upload of a wonderful cover version - I still play this @ gigs

  • Doing a cover means NOT doing the song the same as the original; A Brilliant cover LIKE THIS ONE is interpreting of the song using the style of the artist who is presently singing it, while paying a compliment to the other artist by using their song to express a subject matter... therefore its not a competition as to who did it best!! Its about mutual respect for other creative people and interpretations!!! THIS IS A BRILLIANT COVER FACT!

  • @73kdt Very well said, more people need to realize this!

  • @73kdt yea.

  • @73kdt One of the best Covers of all times!

  • Might be the best cover I've ever heard... GRACE! <3

  • YES love this ! *whilst loosing control*

  • THis is up there with WIlliam Shatner's Rocket Man.

    Shit.

  • i can hear grace, sly & robbie every time again and again

  • Who was first? The Joy Division /watch?v=ZGMDBppWBOo

    or Grace Jones?

  • @praszu joy division were first

  • @praszu joy division were first

  • @personalpronoun I love them too but Grace is my wife lady!

  • I love all the different versions I've heard of this song. Indie, to reggae, to rock/pop. Hank & Cupcakes version is awesome. It's got a sweet base line

  • First of all, don't be music snobs. Nobody cares if you own every foreign-released copy of the Ceremony Ep.

Second, the likes of Echo & The Bunnymen, The Sound, and The Chameleons, are few of many post-punk bands that far exceed the musical talent of Joy Division. If the snob within you is unrelenting, I suggest you choose a more credible band to snoot about.

    Third, Grace Jones is awesome.

  • @aquestionofkelly - so I'm (1/2 tongue-in-cheek) firmly committed to the joy division mythos so what you suggest is blasphemy but...supposing it weren't the sound & the chameleons, both quite excellent - tho comparing to the latter to jd is a bit apples & oranges i.e. dream pop/proto-shoegaze ting vs. the whole jd/pil death disco vibe - but echo & the f**king bunnymen? really? for real? I wouldn't even put those bros up against post-new gold simple minds.

    also, great cover. of course.

  • @artmaccuinn Wow. Well said.

  • Hey!!! This is Sly and Robbie. It doesn´t get much better than that. You are genius, you guys!

  • s p e c i a l

  • 3:00 - 3:05 is fucking EPIC! Go Grace! ;)

  • WTF!!! I never knew Grace Jones sang this song! Wow! An amazing rendition. Did she cover any other Joy Division songs???

  • loke at that body , wow , its amazing

  • Grace Jones... what an interesting human she is.

  • Grace Jones, Indescribable....an incredible, unique talent, amazing and if I won the $175 Million mega millions I would have her at my birthday party

  • BRILLIANT! I LOVE IT! Grace is totally underrated.

  • aaaaargh

    u see the problem is

do u take her seriously at all?

lady gaga wheres silly out fits and hats and 'she wonderrrr fool dah-ling'

grace did it yonks b4 and was laughed at

guess who i thinks 'better' musically

  • So Sexy!

  • Always loved that crazy woman...xxxxxxxxx

  • She's sooooo hottt

  • She's the one who should have played Storm in the X-Men movies, not fucking halle berry

  • @ClintJCL I so freakin agree with you on that one!

  • @ClintJCL agreed! she would have been f*&^ing amazing too

  • @ClintJCL only if Storm could have been a villain. She'd KICK ASS with that. Maybe Halle Berry could have played Good Weather instead as a counter... :)

  • @ClintJCL fucking totally.

  • A woman well before her time!!! Love ya Grace!

  • yup, this is the real one and way for this song to be done!

  • I don't care what people say....this is a very different and original cover....GO Grace!

  • The best !!! ♥

  • 5 stars....She should re-release this song.

  • I do love this version as much as the JD original. However, creative credit should really be given to Sly and Robbie as they did the music.

  • first: i am a great joy division fan for several decades. at 1981, i bought my first jd-album - it was still - and guess what: i bought in the same year the single 'i've seen that face before' from grace jones. i remember 1983 or so, when paul young covered 'love will tear us apart' , a journalist asked new order, how they dislike that crappy version from young. they said - surprise for the journalist - that he should not judge paul young in that unfair way. they said, it is ok for them.

  • Sorry but is sucks...

  • gle ti ovu cokoladicu mmm

  • this is so much more fun than listening to thom yorke's really vapid cover of the same song

  • @dominic8007v2 you are a waste of oxygen and i'm sorry your mother crapped you out

  • Pretty bad

  • @hunchybunker

Nightclubbing is the Iggy Pop song covered by Grace Jones. It is also the name of her fifth album.

  • Comment removed

  • @dominic8007v2 You suck doucheface!

  • Would love to see the video of this think it would be really funny

and the backing track is real dub you cant diss dub its music with feeling not money making B.S

  • I do like a lot of Grace Jones stuff but this is fucking awful

  • @hunchybunker nightclubbing. she also covered sting's demolition man

  • @hunchybunker wasn't it demolition man?

  • holy shit

  • que buena foto!

  • @hunchybunker - Nightclubbing.

  • My god this is bad, like the Joy Division version but shit man....

  • @hunchybunker nightclubbing I think

  • I bet that arse could crack nuts!

  • Yeah so right heru 1966. I was a Joy Division fan in 1979 and love Grace's interpretation of 'She's Lost Control'. Thirty years later we have various people creating the Joy Division myth. Let them get on with it, but there's still no evidence so far that the original remaining members of Joy Division, really have a problem with Grace covering this track.

  • Interesting and very original version; she's so beautiful too!

  • This version and the other vision have their strong points. Love or hate it at least Grace Jones realized cover versions of songs need to be unique and not try to copy the original.

  • How Funny

  • From 6:09 til 6:17 you better be scared. Put a smile on your face and dance with Grace. Shake up the place. It's a musical taste. It's rhythm, deep inside.

  • i think the cover is great lol and her ass x.x *envy* xD

  • I think it's an horrible version. And, heru1966, the living members of Joy Division formed New Order.

  • well this song should be played to greek people . theyjust would not understand it.

  • Grace always puts her own great spin on well-known songs.

A good example is her cover of "Private Life" which is much better than The Pretenders version, in my opinion.

  • Wow, this cover is just...awful, really.

  • dat ass!

  • That chocolate body....looks so good to taste.

  • @hunchybunker Grace covered Iggy's "Night Clubbing." She also covered the Police's "Demolition Man," the Pretender's "Private Life," Roxy Music's "Love is the Drug", and Tom Petty's "Breakdown" (among others) ... oh yeah, and each of her versions are MF awesome.

  • @dcbrau just a tiny adjustment: "Demolition Man" was written for Grace Jones, it wasn't a cover. Technically the Police covered it. Honest.

  • wow im impressed, i was worried about grace jones doing a cover of she lost control :S, doesnt touch the original but great interpretation! lovin the reggae rhythms

  • @minimalist34 cuz its Sly and Robbie reggae rhythm section legends backing her!!! =)

  • This is one of my fav. photos of her, she doesnt even look real...

  • Grace is a legend....androgynous, futuristic and artistic, an icon...

  • knell! .. speechless 5*

  • makes me wanna smoke some weed <3

  • I think her ass would come up to my face, and I'm 5-10"

  • What a ultra-sexy body deluxe u la la :-)

  • Great track from Grace,a strange but fascinating woman.!!

  • just love it pure grace

  • beautiful photo

  • I JUST LOVE THAT COVER!!!!!!!

  • what an amazing physique. What a human.

  • Five stars! It's incredible to read some of the vitriolic, small-minded comments here. I wonder what the living members of Joy Division would make of it all? Anyone would think she's made it sound like 'I should Be So Lucky'! To me, it's a brilliant and personal rendition of a great song. Would people rather hear a 'tracing paper' tribute band do it note-for-note? And did it occur to some of the purists that it might have led some listeners to check out Joy Division's work?

  • You're my heru.

  • @hunchybunker A much belated thank you :-)

  • @heru1966 yeah, my heru too. nicely put.

obv none of us can speak for ian. but he was into dub, hung out in reggae clubs, and also was a big john lydon fan - who is probably the closest comparison I could make to the way she approaches the vocal (and without stepping on toes/biting) so atleast on paper, it seems like something he might have liked

  • @MattyStevensonBishop Hi Matty, cheers for your response. I wasn't aware that Ian was into reggae and dub, learnt something there. And he has Lydon's individuality, as does Grace. I prefer cover versions that take a song in another direction altogether and at the very least, I'm sure it's more interesting for the original writers to hear.

  • @heru1966 But it is so much more fun to be arrogantly indie!

  • @BahmanG I guess so....What would 'indie' be without its arrogance? :-)

  • @heru1966

As far as I know the sole non living member of Joy Division is Ian Curtis.

    New Order is still alive.

  • Grace looks like an exquisite piece of art. Fabulous, glorious skin!!

  • The Iggy Pop song is Nightclubbing

  • When I went out in the 80ies in the punk / new wave scene it always struck me how strongly those "alternative" people were thinking in boxes. He's punk, they are goth, they are too commercial. Nothing is wrong with a cover, this is how the Rolling Stones and many other bands from the 60 ies began their carreer, there is nothing wrong with a commercial song, as long it means something to someone or as long as there is an emotion or feel to it from the heart, it's ok.

  • By the way, in those days she also covered Iggy Pop, Roxy Music and others as well and you cannot say that she is just covering these songs blindly or karaoke style, does she ? No, she is giving it her own interpretation and feel. She is not some silly beauty queen or puppet, but she is a true performer.

  • She got interested in new wave and punksongs, she always had a specific and different style and in 1980 she was already a star. Which could not be said of Joy Division at that time, despite to what people think nowadays. And didn't the remaining members of Joy Division choose a more commercial road afterwards themselves ?

  • Give me 1 reason why Joy Division cannot be covered? They were very good, and their songs were brilliant, but they are not sacred ! I truely believe Grace Jones was doing great here. Besides, she already covered this song in 1980, when most people did not even know this song yet.

  • this is one real big electrocution

  • she's NOT more powerful than the original. he's original.

  • rara version de la canción, aun asi me gusta, viva GRACE!!!

  • oh fuck, this would've been a great cross-genre cover if she didnt sound so bad >:( the musics great, but she cant sing it right at alll

  • es una cagada!!!.....

  • I don't care what you think, for me this is no Grace, it's disgrace.

  • GRACE JONES is fabulous, far better and more powerful than the original

  • @AaronBenjBrown your no different than the ones saying this version is horrible..

    it's not a contest, it's a cover song

  • well this song actually leaves me speechless but not in a good way lol...i guess nobody could ever touch joy divisions version.

  • A living work of art. Love that woman!!!

  • JESUSS, wonderfull !!

  • blown away by grace

  • Beautiful ass --I mean ART

  • SHE KICKS ASS!!!

  • way ahead of her time!!!!!!

  • Hooky, who played bass on the orignal Joy Division recording , has been playing Grace Jones' version of 'She's Lost control' when he's been doing DJ sets. He's clearly more open minded then some of today's Joy Division fans who try to re-invent the band into something that they never were in the first place. Sadly we don't what Ian Curtis would have thought of Grace's version but he probably wouldn't have been so precious as some of the people who claim to be his fans 30 years later.

  • I couldn't have put it better myself.

I spent 25 years telling everybody and anybody how brilliant Joy Division where, to be met with blank stares, or worse.

I've spent the last five years being told by everybody and anybody how brilliant Joy Division were.

  • beautifull picture of GRACE

  • Grace is an abstract artist, which is why most of you morons just don't get it. As for the rest of us, its intoxicating! Grace is the Man!

  • Love Grace. Love reggae. Love Joy Division. Great cover here. Thanks for the post.

  • Quite the contrary.

  • LOL

  • diooos!k putisima mierda. ¿por k la gente se empeña en destrozar la buena musica? pobre Ian, no tuvo ya bastante....basura!!

  • Lighten up, man. Ian would love this version.

  • How do you know what Ian would love? Douche.

  • you know nothing. go live in a burbuja.

  • We all lose control sometimes. hahahaaaaaaa.

    Great stuff!

  • This is a really imaginative cover version of Joy Division's number. One of the few times that a cover version is a vast improvement on the original .

  • I agree, although it would be interesting to know how much input Grace had in the development/production, or if she just came in, sang it, then left it all to the producers. I know she is credited with writing a lot of her songs, but I wonder how involved she got.

  • You gotta be joking

  • The original is from Joy Division

  • Where is this song from?

  • brilliant. can't blieve i've never heard this. thanks so much.

  • omg i have never heard this in my life it is soo good

  • This is why I youtube. Cheers.

  • Ps I gave it 5stars!

  • Wow even same pic ! they say great minds think alike, Well done dude.

  • Dude, you rock!

  • i just discovered that cover. thats amazing. really unique
