If you haven't played any Mount & Blade game, go for Warband instead of With Fire and Sword. I bought the whole series on Steam when it was on sale and Warband is better in every way imho.

Warband is very fun and very similar to WFAS (which is also based on a novel), it's fun when you run around with a warband of 60 elite mercenaries who stomp anyone who so much as looks at you funny.

BTW, put your cavalary units on the wall if a ladder/tower comes in, the heavy armour will let you snipe all the units coming up the ladder as they hit your meat shield.

Guns are most certainly not unbalanced - you are wearing CLOTH, I'll throw a marble with all my strength at you wearing cloth and It'll most likely hurt like hell, now imagine that those marbles are projected by a contained explosion... that would fuck up your day now wouldn't it ?

@kebubas Realism has nothing to do with something being unbalanced or not in a video game. If that was the case, then in games like Battlefield, one hit kills would be happening all around. Balance in a video game has to do with one weapon's strength in relation to another, and in wFaS, the guns are unbalanced as hell. You can just snipe people with one hit kills across the map, and swords are effectively useless.

@LocoElBob69 dude, chill, I was just sayin :D btw, people wear kevlar in BF so one hit kills should be only in the head or ... well ... jewels (I know, I know....) otherwise in this game you have armors, which I believe protect you better from gunshots so... yay ! balance ! just because you can't afford plate armor and get shot down by on bullet while wearing cloth it's not unbalanced- it's you being a scrub in the start of the game ...

I do not know about the With Fire And Sword expansion, but in Warband, Peasant Women were one of the most formidable units, Sword Sisters when upgraded. They wielded good shields and swords, coursers and crossbows as well as armour that rivals that of Swadian Knights.

lol. That charge against the deserters... :P It was that bad in the first game though except they had crossbows instead of muskets. You stop, you die because it's easier to hit you. You lost speed which is what killed you, the specific implement is irrelevant.

I personally like the era but then I liked Napoleon Total War too, the tactics are wonderful. If guns are a concern though, remember that armor helps immensely. It just takes a while to become a tank

i love warband and i really hope that the next sequel will make a bigger leap than fire and sword...it kinda sucked when i was excited and found out that except the guns and other textures/areas/factions there is not much improvement.

Also for everyone new to warband: Get the Floris mod. it has the best of most of the popular mods and expands the gameplay a lot

The fun part about this game is when you get some of the best armor in the game, and you can pretty much stand there and take an entire firing squad to the face without dying. Then, you pull out your double-barreled pistol and two-handed sword and murder your way through them. It seems as though the game gets too easy after a certain point in time. I remember having 200 of the best troops in the game, reiters, and i could take on castles with twice the manpower without any losses.
