I got the same problem. I got to the point with the side clips that must be pushed in with the screwdriver, but what I didn't do is eject the tray which is no wonder I couldn't pull off the front to get to the lens.

I'll give it another go.

has anyone tried this and had any success? i have a drive that just wont read discs at all. you can tell its trying, and it eventually gives up and quits. just wondering if dirty lens is the most common reason for this, or if its more likely a mechanical focusing or aiming the laser problem. i guess ill try this. cant make it any worse i guess :P

yes, it should read dvd's but CAN'T burn dvd's coz its a combo drive. It reads before about a year or two.

There is no way you can repair your belt ! Your best bet will be to go to some good shop along with your broken belt. Buy few different ones and try them. Hopefully you'll get one.

If it's just a cd-rom or dvd-rom, it would just be cheap to replace one new. not worth the time, the effort, and the risk to take them apart and clean it.

You don't require any drivers for any time of cdrom/dvdrom/combo/writer anything... So that's not an issue. As far as connecting it to your computer is concerned.. Here's what you do: Put it in your computer first... Then there should be two cables a power cable (The one with 4 sub-wires all of different colours) And one data cable (It is either a ribbon cable or a SATA tiny cable). Power cable is not a prob it is already in comp. Data cable if doesn't exist buy one... It is VERY cheap.

sorry for late reply... see the front side of your cdrom, there must be a tiny hole.. make sure your computer is off, take a pin and poke it into the hole, the tray will be opened... try different angles while poking the pin

i have i liteon cd rewriter, but my problem is it won't open, unless i use something to insert into the tiny pinhole, and also it doesn't close perfectly, it doesn't read any cd's too, i don't know why? i have tried to open it and clean it, but nothing happens still, can you help me?

um.... first off, clean the lens, then try to rotate the motor which is responsible for moving tray in and out... lubricate it if possible, i faced this problem once and i tried my best to improve it, but i couldn't do it...

i have a sony cd-rw that wont read disk's half the time...then other times it will. i tried to open it up and clean the lens, i also re-greased the sliding tracks...and it started working a lil better. but i think the pots need adjusted, i need to know what i should do

um... well, it's not a good idea to clean writers, the len's of writers isn't supposed to be cleaned, anyways.... try to tighten the power cable and data cable, cuz sometimes they are just a bit loose which causes problems, thats probably the best shot.. everything has got its limit, so in this case its probably best to just replace it, sorry.
