12 June 1898 was a short live Independence of the Filipinos. The US snatch our Independence on February 4, 1899. By June 2, 1899 the Filipinos declared war on the US. We lost the war with the US and we were under US control all the way to July 4, 1946. That is our real Independence 4 Jul 1946! Wake up Filipino and smell the coffee! Why none of you guys wear the Rayadillo with Straw hat and Remington Rifles/Mausers! Why celebrate the Philippine Independence here in the US ?
most Philipinos wishes to be a citizen of America..if this would be the case, why can't US government make a pact with Philippines to annex their country back to the US and gave up their own sovereignity?.. in that way, if America can govern Philippines back again.. I would say Philippine governance would be better...
@ VladimirGlenin:what happened was, one of the horses pooped that's why he's their to the rescue, so peple wont be able to step on the bomb dropped by the horse.
they like to call themselves independent and yet they are here in america depending on the land that is not their's. they should go back to where they belong and be independent.
man if this was the REAL filipinos NOT from the states, they would be doing more than walking lol. real celebrations in the philippines perform!! why arent they ALIVE IN NYC?
While the Philippines first celebrated its Independence Day on June 12, its independence was only recognized on July 4, 1946 by the United States. Henceforth, Independence Day was observed on July 4, but in the name of nationalism, and upon the advice of historians, Republic Act No. 4166 was signed into law by President Diosdado Macapagal in 1964, proclaiming June 12, which up to that time had been observed as Flag Day, as Independence Day.
The declaration, however, was not recognized by the United States or Spain, as the Spanish government ceded the Philippines to the United States in the 1898 Treaty of Paris, in consideration for an indemnity for Spanish expenses and assets lost.
ibig sabihin, nawalan ng saysay ginawa ng mga katipunan?!? parang sinuko lang pala ng españa ang pinas sa america? pakiexplain naman po neto, may ganito kasing debate sa amin nung college eh
The Philippine Declaration of Independence occurred on June 12, 1898 in the Philippines, where Filipino revolutionary forces under General Emilio Aguinaldo (later to become the Philippines' first Republican President) proclaimed the sovereignty and independence of the Philippine Islands from the colonial rule of Spain after the latter was defeated at the Battle of Manila Bay during the Spanish-American War.

Isn't it ironic that after the Philippines gained independence, we still have so many immigrants from this country in the US?
Why did the US give up the Philippines in the first place?
