FANTASTIC Interview. Jean is a Wonderfully Talented woman. I love the fact that she "cared" to "guard" Edith Bunker. I wish the TV of today had that creative process.
It seems like generation by generation we lose another bit of "Class" in ppl in general:( It just seems like the older generations had much more respect for hard work, other people, and life in general. Now we take too much for granted, and if you follow what's going on in the world, and the US, we could be heading for the kind of fall that will correct this problem. It shouldn't have to come to that!
Although Lasalle was a car company, I was told once that Lasalle was also the name of a great olympic runner in the 30's and thats what they were referring to but I really don't which is really true.
I figure it must have been the car. I have always adored Jean. I do a pretty good impression of Edith myself, I should upload it!! What is she doing now, probably retired. Maybe Broadway stuff. What a cool lady.
That's funny,me too.I always thought she was pretty much like Georgia Baxter, she's always the same person and talks the same sweet way and when I saw this I was kinda confused.
Of course, there were also three episodes of "All In The Family" featuring a drag queen named "Beverly LaSalle" (played by the late Lori Shannon a/k/a Don Seymour McLean, a real life transvestite), whom "Edith" befriended. In that context, could "LaSalle ran great" have meant a "drag race?"
thank you jean for giving us Edith Bunker..through your talent a woman was birthed that america loved and when she died some sort of innocence left never to be turn. thank you very much Jean and Edit
Yeah, Jean Stapleton quit. She actually quit during the first season of Archie Bunker's Place, so they just mentioned Edith instead of showing her; the next season she suddenly died.
@StephanieLives It's to bad though she is a great actress for that show and carroll o'connor and her went together. She is stll alive but poor Carroll O'connor died
Personally I would have to say that Jean Stapleton's Edith and Carol Burnett's Eunice were the top of the list when it comes to the most funniest women in TV. I know everyone has there personal favorites but these are mine. Those 2 are the grestest at what they do. Man I really loved tv back then. Most people try to be funny over doing it but these 2 it just flowed out so easy for them...

I would love to see behind the scenes footage from "All in the Family." Carrol O'Connor and Jean Stapleton interacting as who they really were.

I know the actress isn't the character and everything.. but I was dying to hear her talk like Edith. I miss her :(

They should have never had Edith die. That is the biggest and maybe only mistake that the show/Norman Lear has ever made.

I think it was Edith's idea. She felt it was time to move onto other things.

Jean wanted out. She went to Norman Lear and ask him to let her go.
