Why Namco couldn't have acquired THIS one from Bally Midway like they did with Ms. Pac-Man....No wonder Namco went to Atari for distribution of Pac-Mania in the US.
They change the name, really, to distinguish between Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, and Jr. Pacman. That's why it's Clyde, then Sue, then Tim. Hope that clarified it up for you.

@DiggerandIndy it's bally midways fault. clyde in japan was at first translated as stupid (!) and then in the u.s, bally midway made clyde. Bally midway changed these names because they made jr.pacman and ms.pacman
