I own this pedal and it is a really nice one at that. One thing I can say about it (and I hope this gets to Boss). This pedal needs a shaper knob or a mid knob or something because it has naturally high mids and there are times where I want to take the mids out but lack that capability.
I really like the sound of this pedal. I have heard demo's done with this pedal going through solid state amps and I wasn't impressed but when used with tube amps, watch out!!!! :) I'm going to try one through a Marshall Class 5 :) Rock On Tone King Killer Demo!!!!!
why not play with the level more? Do you feel like doing so would reflect the sound of the amp more than the box? also would have liked open chords vs. barre chords in the various modes.
How'd you the keep the pedal from feeding back uncontrollably in the higher gain stages. I own this pedal...and at least for me it tends to feedback badly. Almost so bad I debating about returning it. But the crunch to middle settings are fine.
@byronh77 Keep it, and invest in a noise gate and stick it at the end of your chain. In the unlikely circumstances you still get overpowering feedback, it might be your amp.
@samathanwataguan Thanks for the feedback.....I took it back anyways and got a Carl Martin Plexitone lol. I love this pedal! Its quiet even in the High gain stages. The boss pedal emulates a plexi sound in the crunch to middle modes and its cheaper. But the boss pedal colors your tone a bit , and isnt quite as "authentic". The sound quality and transparency of the plexitone is by far superior...so no regrets on my end.
This pedal is a box of garbage, i own it and it sound terrible, the metal zone is way better sound, this one make toomuch noise i prefer metal zone. More define sound. St2 is to noisy a lot of uuuuuum in the amp, i'm using a egnater rebel 30 in clean channel with a taylor solid body custom. So is no the amp or the guitar is this stupid pedal that sound bad. Oh an is too bright even with the trebel off, in ultra you can not control the sound because of the noise.
@YOANDRYG 1) Boss Metal Zone is crap, period 2) throw your egnater (?) out of the window and get a decent valve amplifier (i.e. Peavey, Blackhearts, Blackstar, if you don't want to spend a lot of money) 3) put the taylor in the garbage can and buy a Gibson Les Paul Studio Faded 4) Take more guitar lessons. ;-)
Power stacks sounds cool. But, it doesn't sounds as mean and sharp as a super overdrive I assume, or am I wrong? (Yes, I know a super overdrive isn't that expensive, but just would like to know)
this pedal sounds ok, but in my opinion, the Boss MT-2 sounds better. I have played many distortion pedals and multi-effects units, and my metal zine is my favorite. This pedal seems like it is missing something.
The only caveat I would add to these otherwise great pedal demos is the base amp being normally chosen for the platform. I'll hazard a guess most who subscribe or visit regularly aren't playing through a $1100 Carvin V3 head and 4x12 half stack. Chances are, they're rockin' a $400 1x12 combo or perhaps a 2x12 under a mini head. It would be nice to hear these pedals through the kind of amp most home players use on a daily basis....that being a combo. Keep rockin' !
From what i know from a inside source cough**PR rep** cough. this power stack is going to replace the metal-core (ML-2) pedal im upset cuz the ML-2 was/is my goto pedal and i think they sound nothing alike

does anyone have any experience with this pedal? i want one for christmas, and i cant decide between this or a EHX germainium4 big muff pi. My set up is Peavey EVH wolfgang special / Epiphone LP with Line 6 spider jam amp. help please?
@Acronso The Crunch is when natural overdrive is happening, Drive is when the overdrive is at its fullest, ultra is the sorta modern distortion you rarely get from vintage amps like VOX and Fender
@Acronso BehRinger make pedals that have got no strength in them i have found they are not worth the cheap price you pay i have yet to see a decent pedal from berhringer
@Howardtripper Dude, have you tried the Vintage Tube Monster? That thing is only $60 but is build solid. It's quite a drive too, and has a built in noise gate. Give that a shot before ya go and get all opinionated
@lmsjr i just got my hands on a vintage jcm800 2205 half stack and i want to push the gain a little bit harder for a modern metal sound. would this be a good pedal for it?
@Strateuphoria I have this pedal and you can make it sound better than this for single notes. Add a delay and it sounds too real. I love this one. strat solo on the neck pick up.
@Strateuphoria I understand that...i step on a MXR Micro Amp or an eq for my solos, to be louder, and that adds sustain and bite. I don't know if it's DSP, a Bos ad said it'a a computor chip by Roland. I use this pedal in front of a solid state Fender amp on the clean ch. I tried it as a pre amp in front of a Marshal but it was too much.
@Gonboo I have the new PS-6 harmoniser , and might do a demo of it.... some things I really like about it and some things I'm very unhappy about.I'll try to get one up by the weekend.
Forget the pedal (although it sounds great), how about your skill? Your improv jamming skills have really improved as of late. I guess having all that wonderful gear around you all the time keeps you practicing :-) I remember you vids from two or three years ago. THAT gives guys like me hope! If I keep at it, I can really get better! Great job, as always.
perfect timing for this series tone king! we are in the middle of some crazy snow over here in scotland (about 40cm in my street) so i've had nothing to do for days since everything is shut down, now 30 pedals gives me something to look forward to each day :)

sounds VERY NICE, but i prefer TUBE ZONE MI AUDIO, cause its TRUEBYPASS. Its a shame the fact of every BOSS pedal isn't truebypass.

Pretty cool, just that your using a pedal that changes a regular amp to a stack, on a stack.

What would you think about using it as a overdrive pedal. Peppering the amps distortion a bit. Just to add some edge. (clean distortion)

Huh, guess it is true. I was expecting it to sound like the Metal Core pedal, since it looked almost liked it, but it sounds more Marshall-y.
Not saying thats a bad thing, its a good thing. Not as much distortion, but definitely better tone then the Metal Core or Metal Zone pedals.
Oh, and yeah, I didn't get to say this at the webcast last Friday, but I'll say it now: Your playing has really improved. =D
