  • I own this pedal and it is a really nice one at that. One thing I can say about it (and I hope this gets to Boss). This pedal needs a shaper knob or a mid knob or something because it has naturally high mids and there are times where I want to take the mids out but lack that capability.

  • How does it sound with active?

  • its another distortion pedal,we more

  • @philgeddychris its basically an amp in a pedal

  • I really like the sound of this pedal. I have heard demo's done with this pedal going through solid state amps and I wasn't impressed but when used with tube amps, watch out!!!! :) I'm going to try one through a Marshall Class 5 :) Rock On Tone King Killer Demo!!!!!

  • sounds VERY NICE, but i prefer TUBE ZONE MI AUDIO, cause its TRUEBYPASS. Its a shame the fact of every BOSS pedal isn't truebypass.

  • Pretty cool, just that your using a pedal that changes a regular amp to a stack, on a stack.

  • why not play with the level more? Do you feel like doing so would reflect the sound of the amp more than the box? also would have liked open chords vs. barre chords in the various modes.

  • How'd you the keep the pedal from feeding back uncontrollably in the higher gain stages. I own this pedal...and at least for me it tends to feedback badly. Almost so bad I debating about returning it. But the crunch to middle settings are fine.

  • @byronh77 Keep it, and invest in a noise gate and stick it at the end of your chain. In the unlikely circumstances you still get overpowering feedback, it might be your amp.

  • @samathanwataguan Thanks for the feedback.....I took it back anyways and got a Carl Martin Plexitone lol. I love this pedal! Its quiet even in the High gain stages. The boss pedal emulates a plexi sound in the crunch to middle modes and its cheaper. But the boss pedal colors your tone a bit , and isnt quite as "authentic". The sound quality and transparency of the plexitone is by far superior...so no regrets on my end.

  • @byronh77 Ah nice one. That's a bloody expensive piece of gear though but I imagine it's worth it.

  • @samathanwataguan Yeah it is....but it is a Plexi in a box. Don't have 10000.00 for a real one. Excellent pedal

  • The Tone King Rules !!!

  • This pedal is a box of garbage, i own it and it sound terrible, the metal zone is way better sound, this one make toomuch noise i prefer metal zone. More define sound. St2 is to noisy a lot of uuuuuum in the amp, i'm using a egnater rebel 30 in clean channel with a taylor solid body custom. So is no the amp or the guitar is this stupid pedal that sound bad. Oh an is too bright even with the trebel off, in ultra you can not control the sound because of the noise.

  • @YOANDRYG 1) Boss Metal Zone is crap, period 2) throw your egnater (?) out of the window and get a decent valve amplifier (i.e. Peavey, Blackhearts, Blackstar, if you don't want to spend a lot of money) 3) put the taylor in the garbage can and buy a Gibson Les Paul Studio Faded 4) Take more guitar lessons. ;-)

  • i love the red cable

  • @hiz99 yeah, it looks like it could take a beating too.

  • Power stacks sounds cool. But, it doesn't sounds as mean and sharp as a super overdrive I assume, or am I wrong? (Yes, I know a super overdrive isn't that expensive, but just would like to know)

  • This thing isn't an analog pedal, is it?

  • What would you think about using it as a overdrive pedal. Peppering the amps distortion a bit. Just to add some edge. (clean distortion)

  • This guy higher notes sounds like a screaming of a virgin xD

  • I meant "zone". Damn touch screen!

  • this pedal sounds ok, but in my opinion, the Boss MT-2 sounds better. I have played many distortion pedals and multi-effects units, and my metal zine is my favorite. This pedal seems like it is missing something.

  • @DizzyMichaels3000 The MT-2 is way too harsh sounding

  • Very nice pedal compared to all the modern sounding metal-based ones.

This is surely a step up from the disparaging Metal Zone crap.

  • I was just about to ask if you were gonna review this pedal, but you already did! Thanks for predicting the future, Tone King!!

  • This pedal. I want it!

Are there any pedals better than this one? Distortion wise.

  • You have been practicing your chops, haven't you TK?

  • hey ttk you should do a demo of your personal pedalboard and amp. that would probly be a great vid. and awesome reviews!!!!!!! \m/

  • isnt this basically the boss metal core but with a new look?

because i have the metal core and it sounds alot like this

  • The only caveat I would add to these otherwise great pedal demos is the base amp being normally chosen for the platform. I'll hazard a guess most who subscribe or visit regularly aren't playing through a $1100 Carvin V3 head and 4x12 half stack. Chances are, they're rockin' a $400 1x12 combo or perhaps a 2x12 under a mini head. It would be nice to hear these pedals through the kind of amp most home players use on a daily basis....that being a combo. Keep rockin' !

  • I´be got this one already and i must say...this is the best boss distortion

  • I like it! and I agree with your opinion Tone King! Not a typical distortion pedal!!! Rock On Bro!!! :)

  • u shoulda used that humbucker Tele in the back

  • Kan this thing be used as an od pedal to??

  • From what i know from a inside source cough**PR rep** cough. this power stack is going to replace the metal-core (ML-2) pedal im upset cuz the ML-2 was/is my goto pedal and i think they sound nothing alike

  • From what i know from a inside source cough**PR rep** cough. this power stack is going to replace the metal-core (ML-2) pedal im upset cuz the ML-2 was/is my goto pedal and i think these sound nothing alike

  • you got an awesome job!

  • this pedal would be cool for recording or if you have a crappy amp

  • does anyone have any experience with this pedal? i want one for christmas, and i cant decide between this or a EHX germainium4 big muff pi. My set up is Peavey EVH wolfgang special / Epiphone LP with Line 6 spider jam amp. help please?

  • This one is a winner!!! Love the tone and flexibility. Great demo as usual TTK!

  • very nice playing!!!

I just dont understand why, in sound knob, the crunch is the lowest and drive is the medium, but ok

  • @Acronso The Crunch is when natural overdrive is happening, Drive is when the overdrive is at its fullest, ultra is the sorta modern distortion you rarely get from vintage amps like VOX and Fender

  • The video is out of sync with the audio and it reminds me of one of those saturday afternoon karate movies.

  • that is a really good pedal,

I'll just wait until behringer copies it and then I buy it

  • @Acronso BehRinger make pedals that have got no strength in them i have found they are not worth the cheap price you pay i have yet to see a decent pedal from berhringer

  • @Howardtripper Dude, have you tried the Vintage Tube Monster? That thing is only $60 but is build solid. It's quite a drive too, and has a built in noise gate. Give that a shot before ya go and get all opinionated

  • @Howardtripper man that is totally not true, behringer pedals are great for the price

  • THAT'S NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • a little slow but i really like the looks of the virgin thinking about gettin me one

  • this pedal feets well in a blus junior?

  • it IS quite Marshall-y isn't it? Which is cool... *thumbs up*

  • Finally a Boss pedal that sounds decent. Might try this at my local store later.

  • hell yeah 30 pedals series is awesome

  • what patch cord is the best in your opinion TTK?

  • is this a pedal that should run through the effects loop or front of the amp? i know boss is into those preamp pedals now

  • Well, you are playing a stack so of course it is going to sound like a stack.

  • Huh, guess it is true. I was expecting it to sound like the Metal Core pedal, since it looked almost liked it, but it sounds more Marshall-y.

Not saying thats a bad thing, its a good thing. Not as much distortion, but definitely better tone then the Metal Core or Metal Zone pedals.

Oh, and yeah, I didn't get to say this at the webcast last Friday, but I'll say it now: Your playing has really improved. =D

  • Great video!!

  • it gives nice feedback but its way to soft for me. it isn't a full metal pedal so i vote thumbs up for this one

  • Nice to see you doing the pedal days again! Hey you seem to be liking that Carvin V3!

  • Nice, heavy but not vulgar distortion, good pedal.

  • Now if they'd just slap an extra output with cabinet modeling on that pedal so you could go from it direct.

  • Why do i suddenly want some red guitar cables?

  • Good demo! I'm loving what people are saying about this pedal and how it sounds on your video. Nice licks too. Chris

  • This pedal sounds good :O

  • Great Video. Now I have incentive for 30 days. LOL

  • sounds way cool. how is it with pushing a drive channel?

  • you should play one of the reviews with the virgin

  • @TheKuroH haha - I was thinking the same. Next week, I'll bust out w/ the Virgin.

  • I have this one, TK and I love it. Sounds better in person too.

  • What's your opinion of the pedal, TTK?

  • @Den1sVengeance I like it. Unlike a typical distortion pedal ... it's very smooth & full ... not raspy. Kinda retro sounding (Marshall-JCM800-ish)

  • @lmsjr Yeah I noticed the Marshallesque sound.

  • @lmsjr i just got my hands on a vintage jcm800 2205 half stack and i want to push the gain a little bit harder for a modern metal sound. would this be a good pedal for it?

  • it sounds good with chords, but single strings, not so sure...

  • @Strateuphoria I have this pedal and you can make it sound better than this for single notes. Add a delay and it sounds too real. I love this one. strat solo on the neck pick up.

  • @homeagent oh :), sorry I meant to say, compared to a modded smallbox 50

I generally found pedals to sound good with either chords or lead, not both at the same time.

  • @Strateuphoria I understand that...i step on a MXR Micro Amp or an eq for my solos, to be louder, and that adds sustain and bite. I don't know if it's DSP, a Bos ad said it'a a computor chip by Roland. I use this pedal in front of a solid state Fender amp on the clean ch. I tried it as a pre amp in front of a Marshal but it was too much.

  • @homeagent I'm sorry to hear that bro ;)

  • @homeagent I'll check one out in person. Its DSP modelling isn't it?

  • Can you do a video of the new Boss PS-6 harmonizer?

  • @Gonboo I have the new PS-6 harmoniser , and might do a demo of it.... some things I really like about it and some things I'm very unhappy about.I'll try to get one up by the weekend.

  • Forget the pedal (although it sounds great), how about your skill? Your improv jamming skills have really improved as of late. I guess having all that wonderful gear around you all the time keeps you practicing :-) I remember you vids from two or three years ago. THAT gives guys like me hope! If I keep at it, I can really get better! Great job, as always.

  • ITS BACK!

  • I quite liked that one, not always a big fan of the newer Boss stuff, good demo thanks TTK.

  • @markymarc180579 Thanks MM!

  • @lmsjr killer pedal man sounds kindof like marshall

  • Does this works like an Overdrive? Or distortion?

  • perfect timing for this series tone king! we are in the middle of some crazy snow over here in scotland (about 40cm in my street) so i've had nothing to do for days since everything is shut down, now 30 pedals gives me something to look forward to each day :)

  • @username125418 Same here, am in Glasgow, its hellish, but 30 pedals cheers me up lol :)

  • @username125418 lol, same here, snows not so bad where i am tho on the west coast :D

  • This + Electro Harmonix Magnum 44 + Marshall 1960 = stealth stack of WIN!

  • You should put something in the tittle like "Season 2" so it doesn't mix with the old one !

    Cheers

Nice job by the way !

  • @pleasureONstrings Good call. Thank you for the suggestion.
