There is so much sick bass hidden beneath 80s Rush songs. Sometimes hard to hear on studio albums, but trust me. Beneath every synthy pop song Geddy is shredding. It is simply all he knows how to do.
These postings from the DVD kick ass in terms of the sound. Then again...Rush piped through a coffee can is still 10 times better than most of the other shit out there.
As a RUSH fan since 77, I have always beeen into their kickass live sound. I was fortunate enough to attend a GUP concert years ago. Awesome! PS Their studio recordings are stunning.
any other band in the world, this song would have a smash hit in the 80s. love the drive of the song. the bass line is out of this world. phenominal 10/10!!
@baddog255 You are of course so very very right. :) I've actually loved Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures for a long time, and I discovered Signals last year. What I meant I guess, was that I always went back to their earlier stuff like the first two albums. And now when I listen to those, It feels so basic compared to their 80's work (and their late late 70's work). My brother doesn't really like 80's Rush, he's more of a basics kind of type, but I absolutely love their 1979-1985 period!
His voice here is so indescribable; it has that high pitch we Rush fans love, but at the same time it's so smooth. Personally I think this is the best it sounds across his entire career.
@93ym Lee's voice here is okay, but nowhere near the power and pitch of all Rush releases up to and including Hemispheres. Then again, even if Lee somehow miraculously managed to maintain his crystal-shattering pipes throughout his career with Rush, could the band have still achieved worldwide fame with a singer that sounded like a mosquito? I think not. Lee HAD to tone it down in order for the band to obtain broad-based fan appeal.
@kawi1167 amazing how effortless he plays the most awesome bass riffs while jumping around or singing, they all are the ultimate when it comes to musicianship, Damn, we need more groups like this today more than ever. Geddy is a very nice guy, met him in Chicago about 10 years ago, very humble and down to earth, unlike many of today's quote unquote artists.
@Jick769The GUP tour was the only tour they played this on. I don't remember it on later ones. Rush played it as part of their Fear Trilogy: Witch Hunt, The Weapon and Enemy Within. This is probably the only video of them playing this live. Get the Rush Replay DVD. It has this concert and it's a good one. Rush was hot the night they filmed the show. I mean Geddy is on fire in this song!
Wow, hearing this really brings me back to when that album came out. Always loved this song and Kid Gloves. And GUP is hardly their worst album. It was a big change of an album for them and the band stated it was perhaps the hardest one they ever made. But I like its bleak mood. It fit the times.

@lautarosoad I never said it was bad, I just said it was their worst album. I'm just saying don't glorify it, it's dumb 80's album. Rush themselves have admitted that it's not very good.

now, dont think i glorify it, cause i dont, its not my favourite rush album at all, and i agree, its not really that great, i still enjoy listening to it, specially this song.
This is rush in their freaking prime, Geddy Lee is pretty much the dude who inspired me to jump on bass and Neil Peart on drums. They're all too freaking awesome and this my friends is what we call mean mean pride!
Such energy in their instrument-playing... it's always a true pleasure looking at them perform, can't wait for Time Machine Tour Part 2 to see them again <'3
A polite request to the knobhead who insists on slagging off this band! Stop wasting yours and everyone elses time and do us all a favour........FUCK OFF!
To the idiot who keeps writing all that bullshit, if you really can't stand Rush, then really...why are you wasting your time and ours writing about it.....go listen to something you like, and leave the amazing writing and playing talent to those of us who can really appreciate it!!!
@edithbrassard "if you really can't stand Rush, why are you wasting your time and ours writing about it."
Why do you waste your time reading it? Or commenting on me and not your favorite band? Can't stand a little criticism? Or did you never grow out of that 14 year-old never-been-laid stage of your life?
"leave the amazing writing and playing talent to those of us who can really appreciate it!"
You have extremely low standards for that which you choose to call "amazing" or "talent."
@bapyou dude is not that he hasn't grown up, think about it; you're listening to a song by a band that you don't like at all, so why listen to their music at all? by saying Rush sucks, it just tells us that you really have no ear for music at all. Bro Geddy Lee has inspired many great bassists such as Les Claypool, Cliff Burton and Steve Harris, should I go on? Neil Peart is a respected drummer worldwide and Alekzandar's style is very influential in many bands nowadays they're not talentless!!!
@RPJTheWhiteWolf "you're listening to a song by a band that you don't like at all"
I don't listento it. I click pause and write comments for the woefully misinformed like you.
"Geddy Lee has inspired many great bassists"
Never heard of any of the assholes you've listed. GL certainly didn't inspire Jaco Pastorius, a man whose musianship, soul & intellignce puts any so-called "bassist" around today to shame. Musicianship trumps instrumental technique. Always has, always will.
@bapyou sir, why must you go onto a video of a band that has amazing musical talent and say they suck? if people like this band and you think they suck, you should keep your opinion to your self and not go on videos for this band and share your thoughts. if you don't like this band then go away.
Everyone, just stop feeding this troll! Jeez! He just craves attention. Enjoy your music without paying any mind to the comment box. Minimize your window if you have to, or fullscreen the video. It doesn't matter what they think, just what you think. Please, stop fighting over this; there is no reason. For the love of god, I come on Youtube and all I find are idiots that are way too loud with their opinions, and idiots that feed the damned trolls! For god's sake. Just listen to the music.
Geddy should be thrown in jail for assault & battery for the way he abuses the SHIT out of those bass strings starting @3:56...LONG LIVE THE 3 WISE MEN OF WILLOWDALE !!!
@2112chrisd well if geddy is gonna get assault and battery, neil will probably get the death sentence (he does live in california now) for the way he brutally murders those drumheads and cymbals
WHAT CAN WE SAY? SEEN RUSH 3 TIMES ON VARIOUS TOURS, MOVING PICTURES, ROLL THE BONES AND R30 MISSED THEM WHEN HERE ON SNAKES AND ARROWS, WOULD LOVE TO SEE THEM AGAIN IN THE UK. FIRST ALBUM I BOUGHT WAS 2112 IN 1978 AND I STILL HAVE IT. HAVE EVERYTHING THEY HAVE PRODUCED, WITHOUT DOUBT THE BEST 3 PIECE BAND IN THE WORLD, STAGGERING MUSICIANS.
@seganerd89 i was thinking the same exact thing! i´ve been listening so much the 80´s Rush latetly, and there are some other songs that i would love to hear live like Countdown from Signals album, Show don´t Tell and also this one!
nobody is too good for comments. this was the album that made me fall in love with this band for life. Grace under pressure was the only good music that year!
@sherry0363 in my opinion, this is probably the best rush album, with moving pictures a close second. this is an album or cd that you just put on and enjoy from beginning to end without ever thinking about skipping a track. only other band that i can say that about is Pink floyd's Dark Side
@z06forme in my opinion, you half right. geddy is better than john paul jones, and neil is better than bonham. but alex and jimmy, i think jimmy is better and robert can sing better than geddy. but dont get me wrong this is my favourite band of all time and i like every band member more than anyone else
These guys blow. Anyone thinking they have any talent whatsoever, is sorely misled. There are thousands of musicians with more soul, heart, and intelligence than these idiots. Thousands. These idiots are a band for mastrubating teenagers. Anyone older than 15 who still likes Rush, needs to move out of Mom's basement. Thanks for the reply.
@bapyou You do realize that they have the most consecutive gold and platinum albums after the Beatles and Rolling Stones?? Have you "thousand of musicans with more soul, heart and intelligence" reached that?? Are they able to fill stadiums and sell records for over 40 years?? Maybe you should get out of your mom's basement!! No problem!
@Image4ever "You do realize that they have the most consecutive gold ... etc"
And? This only proves people will buy shit, eat it, and say it tasted good. Are the only criteria for what is good record sales and ticket sales? That's it? I've heard Barry Manilow sells out concerts too. Is he also yout favorite? By your "standards" the artistic worth of Robert Johnson is a fiction.
They suck, dude, Get over it. Listen to some real music
@bapyou i can't believe how close-minded you are. to say they don't have talent is wrong. i won't say anything bad about you, even though you just insulted all the rush fans out there. but please, learn to differentiate what's right from wrong.
new wave, ska, power rock...all blended...nice cocktail...cheers!!

A polite request to the knobhead who insists on slagging off this band! Stop wasting yours and everyone elses time and do us all a favour........FUCK OFF!
621Kershaw 1 year ago

You have extremely low standards for that which you choose to call "amazing" or "talent."
bapyou 1 year ago
@bapyou dude is not that he hasn't grown up, think about it; you're listening to a song by a band that you don't like at all, so why listen to their music at all? by saying Rush sucks, it just tells us that you really have no ear for music at all. Bro Geddy Lee has inspired many great bassists such as Les Claypool, Cliff Burton and Steve Harris, should I go on? Neil Peart is a respected drummer worldwide and Alekzandar's style is very influential in many bands nowadays they're not talentless!!!

@2112chrisd well if geddy is gonna get assault and battery, neil will probably get the death sentence (he does live in california now) for the way he brutally murders those drumheads and cymbals

nobody is too good for comments. this was the album that made me fall in love with this band for life. Grace under pressure was the only good music that year!
sherry0363 1 year ago
@sherry0363 in my opinion, this is probably the best rush album, with moving pictures a close second. this is an album or cd that you just put on and enjoy from beginning to end without ever thinking about skipping a track. only other band that i can say that about is Pink floyd's Dark Side
BLUESMANRONCHICAGO 1 year ago
@z06forme in my opinion, you half right. geddy is better than john paul jones, and neil is better than bonham. but alex and jimmy, i think jimmy is better and robert can sing better than geddy. but dont get me wrong this is my favourite band of all time and i like every band member more than anyone else

bapyou 1 year ago 2
@bapyou If you think so I fear the music you think is good!!
Image4ever 1 year ago
These guys blow. Anyone thinking they have any talent whatsoever, is sorely misled. There are thousands of musicians with more soul, heart, and intelligence than these idiots. Thousands. These idiots are a band for mastrubating teenagers. Anyone older than 15 who still likes Rush, needs to move out of Mom's basement. Thanks for the reply.
bapyou 1 year ago
@bapyou You do realize that they have the most consecutive gold and platinum albums after the Beatles and Rolling Stones?? Have you "thousand of musicans with more soul, heart and intelligence" reached that?? Are they able to fill stadiums and sell records for over 40 years?? Maybe you should get out of your mom's basement!! No problem!
Image4ever 1 year ago
@Image4ever "You do realize that they have the most consecutive gold ... etc"
And? This only proves people will buy shit, eat it, and say it tasted good. Are the only criteria for what is good record sales and ticket sales? That's it? I've heard Barry Manilow sells out concerts too. Is he also yout favorite? By your "standards" the artistic worth of Robert Johnson is a fiction.
They suck, dude, Get over it. Listen to some real music
bapyou 1 year ago
@bapyou Well, to what kind of music do you think I should listen?? Now I am really Curious as to what you think is good music!!

@Image4ever I'm not going to tell you what to think. Get a life. Get back to work, you jackass.
bapyou 1 year ago
@bapyou i can't believe how close-minded you are. to say they don't have talent is wrong. i won't say anything bad about you, even though you just insulted all the rush fans out there. but please, learn to differentiate what's right from wrong.
