@keybladeblastcalibur Well this is coming from someone whose READ the manga and the VN, and watched Umineko multiple time. She's got an important role if you would bother reading the VN, you shouldn't critize characters due to the anime, Deen made plenty of mistakes. And furthermore you try losing you whole family and living with Eva and see what an open, happy person you are.

Excuse me if I'm wrong, but I have a theory on the witches:

they are all the discarded personalities of humans. In the case of Bern, she was created because Rika was disgusted by the kind of person she had become.

I believe Lambda was created by Takano's defeat. As for Beatrice, I think she was a human who let the "witch" personality inside her take over.

Oops, I guess I just went on a rant... sorry...

I watched this a while ago, but I didn't understand one thing (I think it wasn't even properly explained in the anime): What is going on in the part where Maria tortures her mother? I mean she became beatrices apprentice, and later when they are on the island, she seems to meet Beatrice for the first time.

I understood every single detail in Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, but this show is a lot weirder... explanation appreciated :D

I can guess this episode wasn't rushed because it gave us more detailed clues. Take the map Ange had and the simplified speech the captain had and compare it to the SN. Look up the island before the murders occured and compare it to the map...
