The upbeat happy presentation is not appropriate to the song. The guy wrote it when he was going amost completely blind and feeling alone because the woman he loved had rejected him. It's a beautiful song but not a happy-clappy song.

i doubt anyone knows the reason behind this song, the man who wrote this song was once engaged only to start going blind. His "wife to be" decided she didn't want to live life with a blind partner so she decided not to marry him... so he wrote this song. its beautiful, and amazing, we are all hand crafted works of god. never forget how special you are

@EliForsmanMusic He actually wrote it when his sister (who was taking care of him since his "wife to be" left him) got married. That doesn't really change the meaning, but it shows that when he wrote this song, he was going through the most difficult situation, in that all he had loved in the world was gone. He only had God, and I think it is truly amazing how great the love of God is, and so did the man who wrote this song.
