  • You are a better man than I, raocow. I would've put my fist through the fucking screen long before this.

  • WHere did you get this game?

  • Magnetic pull might be a cool concept if there were some clearly metal objects to assist the player in identifying the direction.

  • Honestly, the wind doesn't seem totally randomized, it seems to ajust to certain elemets of the level. For example those red pillars in the first part either ''repel'' or ''attract'' Mario. Doesn't make the wi- I mean magnet mechanics any fairer, but it makes

them more predictable... It's not necessarily random, that's all I'm saying.

  • Something tells me Raocow was resisting the urge to hit the computer with the ol' battle-axe again. =P

  • You know what would make this stage harder? ... Oh wait.

  • Just wanted to say that you shouldn't feel bad at all for rewinding through this level. This game is excessively difficult. You're awesome Raocow!

  • Never heard Raocow tell someone to "go F [themselves]" before. I think I need to go for a long walk and contemplate my shattered innocence.

  • This hack truly lives up to its name - you have to give it that!

  • Roacow. Just a few simple words,

    Its okay man. :)

  • Heh... I thought I hit caps lock at 4:50.

  • Honestly, I was hoping for a creative boss fight like at the end of world 2. This seemed thrown together and poorly thought out compared to some of the early levels. A wind/magnet/whatever direction indicator would have been a good idea to level the playing field a little.

Glad you didn't go karoshi raocow mode on it, that would not have been fun in the least.

  • There's only one thing that could've made this level worse: Fishing Boo.

  • It's too bad, the first two worlds were indeed sadistic, but at least pretty legit. This last one wasn't well thought-out and that last level was especially awful. Ugh. I'd say if only the first t2 worlds are played, it's a pretty cool hack. But world 3, totally unnecessary, both plot-wise and playwise.

  • I liked this video, because it had an old style Raocow ramble marvel vs. capcom gilligan's island whatever ramble ramble.

  • I'm glad you realized that this level was extremely tricky (devastating to play without tools) early in the level.

  • What I can say is, this haven't really been all that fun to watch.. why? Because the game is made to kill you. Most level design was horrible, like this level.

  • I don't even know what to think about this stage. It's just massive aggravation.

  • Were there a mario, where in it had a level, that had a little wind level, but instead of random death, it was just jumping around, enjoying some music with coins about, maybe a horse, as a sort of bonus maybe... would then wind not be stupidly horrible?

  • For all the time I have been watching Cowrao, I have never seen him quit a game with so much prejudice. But there is not a chance in hell that I blame him after seeing this monstrosity of level composition.

  • I feel the need to apologize for recommending you play this game without actually finishing it first...

Pity that the end of the game was pretty lackluster gimmick-wise.

  • This game had some really cool ideas. But I mean yeah. This was dumb. I shudder at the thought of attempting something like this, considering I can't even beat levels in the regular SMW on my computer. This is just. The way you get stuck in places where there is like a pixel worth of give... Nitroid does it intentionally, I think, but this is like random generators and just... Congrats Raocow, you did great. Play something fun now, man~ You deserve it.

  • Holy crap. I was frustrated with the game just watching this.

  • Man, I normally like seeing LPers get frustrated at the game they're playing, because I find it kind of funny. But when I see raocow get upset, I get genuinely upset.

    I feel your pain, raocow.

  • @Bundy1989 Its because he generally cares and tries to give these hacks and gives them a chance (by which I mean he plays them like there actually a game like there supposed to be). and when he gets frustrated you know its for a reason. We get so upset with him because he cares a lot about how games work and how there supposed to be played and everything that goes in to making them

  • @Bundy1989 Its because he generally cares and tries to give these hacks and gives them a chance (by which I mean he plays them like there actually a game like there supposed to be). and when he gets frustrated you know its for a reason. • Jesus Christ that level was horrible. Now, I've stated my opinions of this hack time and again, and I don't think it bears repeating when raocow, King of Not Save States, gives in and uses rewinds. I'll just leave with one final thought re: this hack.

    Fuck this game.

  • Man I sure could use one of them kidneys.

  • Came for more Cat Planet-like humor, stayed for the awesome description of Mercury.

  • @raocow-

What was/is your main team in MVC2??? Let me guess... Magneto, Storm, Sentinel? Nah, I think it was something less obvious... Strider? Was Rogue in there maybe??? Let us know! :)

  • Good God, I don't blame you for giving up at all.

  • This just doesn't look like fun to me at all, some of the early were really interesting and fun looking, I was going to stop watching and play it myself, but, imo, it seems that the games creator ran out of good/new level ideas very early on and just went for tired old annoyingly difficult levels.

I'm really glad I didn't start playing this myself as I'm the sort of guy who has to finish a game once he starts it but I would have stopped enjoying myself after the first world.

  • I was gonna go on about you've pushed through harder and tried a lot longer before giving than this but then I read the description. So yea. o-o

  • Magnets! How do they work? Magic!

  • 7:07

If you're haveing rom-hack problems I feel bad for you son

I've got 99 problems, but Charlie ain't one!

  • Man, you should just get a cape in the older levels, just to make it easier and stuff.

  • Hacks like this are why Proton Jon doesn't do Mario anymore.

  • Rewinds are the appropriate tool because you can get screwed at any time.

  • Japan defeats Canada

  • You know... I totally support your tool abuse, to be honest; just look at how the wind was implemented: it was essentially random. At least for me, it is not plausible to do that level tool-less without getting to the point where you're essentially vomiting bile all over the place. There were extra points for not having a mid point, so you had to do that horrible shifting wind koopa-statue jump on a P-Switch timer part.

  • Not even the smartest computer in the world could beat this level, glad you quit Raocow, this level would have caused bad things to come.

  • What a terrible level. I'm glad you didn't continue to try to do it without savestates. This stage is beyond unreasonable.

  • Wow, what a let down for the end. Thanks for playing Raocow, even if the hack was... really bad. Just stuff there for the sake it rather than trying for a game. And, above all that... no end boss?! Though on second thought, I wouldn't want to see what it would be... At least it is over!

  • Good lord, fuck this game. And it seems like playing this has taken an emotional toll on you raocow. It just doesn't seem fun, and if it's not fun, simply stop playing it. I'm glad you've decided to quit S. Mario.

  • I think using that "Reverse time" thing is good. It makes for a better LP. For example, with the yogscast, they skip many of the long jumping puzzles that take ages to do. It isnt really fun to watch someone spend hours at something and get upset and annoyed.

  • I'm impressed that you made it as far as you did without tool abuse. I would've given up a long time ago, but you stuck through it somehow. I think you should play something more fun next time, something you know you'll enjoy. Just for the sake of your sanity and all.

  • The only 2D Mario game that did wind well was Lost Levels just because you knew when it was going on and you knew which direction it was going. IMO, unless a ROMhacker could impliment ways of telling the player which direction the wind is going and when it was going on, they should never use it in their games.

  • "and honestbloodlust, you can go F yourself if you protest"

man i have no idea who this honestbloodlust guy is, but holy shit, getting dissed by raocow? i seriously would not want to be that guy,

raocow i've said it before and i'll keep saying it, you are my nigga mayne

  • Does anyone know good rewind settings for zsnes?

  • PRINCE OF PERSIA: MARIO EDITION.

  • 1:40 top right corner! your score looks like the thwomps eyes and it's REALLY freaky looking O__O

  • I didn't no you were playing that GMC game it never showed up on my sub box o.O

  • Good limit choice imo.

  • lets not really play mario but give some sort of store brand equivalent

  • The Raocow has been broken.

    T_T

  • Cowrao's #1 nemesis..... Win- Magnetism..... how does it work.....

  • The game was, basically, cool ideas with bad execution. This final level was the worst way to end the game...and continue it at any point. Clearly rushed.

Definitely disliked the music glitching, in other levels.

It's not that good of a hack, but a few levels are okay, especially the Garden of Eden level.

  • You should play an easy rom hack next just cause this one was so bad

  • Fuck this game

  • Wow, Rao went insane ._.

  • Mm... Since you've been playing this game, it's sounded like it's made a serious impact on your emotional health. You usually sound so enthusiastic and pepped up in your videos. As a fan of your's, I'm very glad you've made the choice to quit this game.

  • Yep, here's that wind level!

  • I'm playing a Pokemon romhack, and its evident the hacker has no sense of balance. I mean, a 150 base power move that hits 2-5 times in a row? Coming at you from something with obscene Attack? It makes me wonder; WHY does EVERY rom hacker under the sun feel they have to create something full of dick moves and unreasonable difficulty?

'Cow, I appreciate you wanting to go through hacks like this without tools, but sometimes, man, you just gotta give yourself a checkpoint. No one will blame you.

  • And I'm glad you went ahead and used the rewind, because I can only imagine this level without it. Nothing worse than trying to fight your way through a completely random wind gener--oh, GRAVITATIONAL PULL (a rose by any other name will still scream as loud) that changes at the worst times. Glad this one's over too, now you can relax until the next one. :P

  • Random wind is kinda good enough reason to use rewinds. This would have took a lot of time, even with a mid point/check point. Looking forward to something a bit more reasonable! (also maybe one day ya know that rewindless too lol)

  • You made the right call with the rewinds. There's NO visual cues for the wind, which is unfair no matter which way you look at it.

  • @AGrayPhantom How are you supposed to look for at it when there are no visual cues? :P

  • Man, this hack really went from a somewhat fun looking and rather difficult adventure to just so stupidly cruel with pretty bad gimmicks (Ice blocks, no turning around, I'm looking at you!). And then the gimmicks started being reused... It had potential, if the level design wasn't so bad at times.

(although, the double jump levels did look fun)

  • ADETQUE!

  • The problem of making extremely Difficult hacks in SMW, is that the engine is, too unforgiving to do without artificial mid points...

  • @ErrgletheComposer

Multiple midpoint patches have existed for at least two years now, so these people don't really have an excuse.

  • Once he began to use his tools, it's like, his commentary became like the commentary in the VIP games.

    This makes me very happy.

  • The liquid part of the eye is called vitreous humor.

  • Game design!

...No really, this stage was abysmal. You could tell the stage would not only be hard without wind- Oh excuse me, MAGNETS- but you could also see that every jump was clearly made WITHOUT adjusted physics in mind, let alone RANDOMIZED physics, it never seemed to blow you in the same direction twice. On top of that, the latter half of the level was made out of cement, munchies and black blocks, making it look bad by ROMHACK standards. On top of THAT, were the fucking fish necessary?

  • @eternalobliviox71 Yea, personally this hack is awesome if you remove all the generators and this level. Generators are arguable I suppose, you could replace them with predefined patterns, but the use of generators should never be to increase difficulty.

  • @voxusMB You know, not even. Generators were a massive issue with this hack, but it overall seemed to take decent looking stages, if a little underwhelming, and said, 'You know, what would happen if I put random gimmicks in now and again?' Sometimes it worked, the double jumping stage looked fun, the Eden stage didn't look too bad even if hiding them behind bushes from time to time was incredibly cheap, but other than that, the rest of the game(Lookin' at YOU, 'No Turning Back'!) was broken.

  • @eternalobliviox71 I'm inclined to enjoy rather torturous gimmicks that play with the fourth wall, so I liked no turning back, but I think it could have been better had it been designed to incorporate that thing know to game development as "fun". All in all some good ideas wasted on false difficulty all for the sake of fitting the bill as "hard core".

  • @voxusMB I think the thing with 'Kaizo' brand hacks is that they think 'hmm, I can't make a fun game, what if I make an annoying and impossible one!' even though they don't notice how much effort and time Kaizo clearly took, it was always one pixel-perfect Coin-Block put exactly where a human is inclined to jump at, and they also didn't notice the hectic-osity(that's a word now) made Kaizo one AND two fun to play. ASM kinda ruined that because now it's like... Wind. 'Nuff said.

  • @eternalobliviox71 ASM didn't ruin anything, people who ruin everything abuse ASM because they lack the ability to design fun levels, and because they test their levels with save states. I have nothing against save states, just people who abuse save states to test their levels. For instance, "Don't look back" is a fun little flash game, an example of the same gimmick without the crappy level design.

  • You made a good choice, and it cheers me up to see that you sacrificed a little bit of the run for your own sanity. I would much rather see a happy Raocow that uses rewinds than a bitter hollow one that beats games completely straight. This is a cool hack, but it went way overboard, so I don't blame you either. Every now and then I think, "Hey, that's not so bad, I could do that." but this whole hack, I've been consistently impressed with your playing ability. Nice job Mr. Cow.

  • That...that...That's just poor design. It would be ten times better if either the wind were in one constant direction or if the wind shifts were denoted by arrow signs or something. As it stands, though, it just makes me not like Japan sometimes.

There's Standard Frustrated Raocow, and then there's this. I heard a lot of pain in his voice here, and that makes me wish I could send hugs over the internet. Such a brave soul, braver than I. I hope the next one is far better quality than this.

  • In which raocow acknowledges reality and makes inner peace with himself.

  • Y'know, when I saw that this hack was called "Sadistic Mario," I thought it was just like the author going "Oh hey this hack is hard, aren't I just so sadistic?! *wink wink nudge nudge*," not like, ACTUAL sadism. That's just creepy.

  • Guess Raocow is not a Mormon so he doesn't know hoe magnets work.

  • Although the rewinds were VERY valid and I follow support them, raocow, I do think due to the nature of the level that frequent "checkpoints" would have made for a better video + more enjoyable level on your end.

  • I've always wondered why I never see people use the slowdown feature of ZSNES. (Not that it would have helped much in this specific case.) Is it considered to be even cheaper than savestates? I love the effect it creates.

  • Well, an uneven game, very clever in some points, not so clever in others, and a near-arcane wind pattern results in the video today. Overall, not an unplayable broken mess, but approach with extreme caution. There is sadistic, and there is downright unreasonable, and what makes each one is not the same from person to person.

Personally? I think Raocow is better at these kinds of games than he realizes. I could not do this without tools.

  • Please play La Mulana~! ;D

  • (7:43) "Wind, under any other name, is still just as terrible."

So very true. This level, with its arbitrarily changing "wind", is just simply unreasonable to play legitimately. (Well, even more unreasonable than the rest of the hack.)

  • @Raocow I'm sure you have more fans of you using savestates then the 2-3 people who want "pro pro pro" ._.

I agree with Ocson, Savestates = Less time, less rage, more fun.

  • 3:33 All I can say is: "Yay". This hack might not be the hardest, but it's probably the lowest quality in terms of game design, and it seems like Rowc is having less fun with this one then any before.

    Go have a normal-time lunch.

  • You know, if it was any other hack, I would have been like, "oh come on, Raocow! We know you can do it!" But this is just bullshit. Asking someone to play this without savestates is just unreasonable.

Also we have the same laptop yay.

  • Welp, it's not like I could do better lol!! Thank you raocow for at least trying, that level would of made me pull my hair out AHHMAN!

  • Raocow, out of curiosity, why do you prefer the rewind tool to the savestate tool? It seems like the savestate tool would be easier to use because you always know where you start and don't have to "fidget" around as much as you have to with the rewind tool to try to find a safe place to continue. I don't mean this in an "URGH YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG" kinda way, just curious on your opinions on common emulator tools.

  • @Zinkraptor Rewind lets you not pay attention to making savestates, so it's simpler.

Anyway yeah... There are a bunch of dudes who want PRO GARMERZ WITH NO TOOLS. Screw them. This hack, is designed with tools in mind. It fits under the expectations from the player. You can clearly tell so because of the way it simply doesn't expect you to pass an obstacle more than once.

As for the hack itself, it had some good ideas (like the powerups thing). But the design was just generic hard hack #367

  • Of course it had to be wind.

  • I think there were some cool things in this hack: I had a lot of fun with the double jumping levels, and the on-off levels were well done, but difficult to get your mind used to. Even the "don't touch the power-up" levels were nice concepts. But stuff like the ice levels and this level absolutely made me tear my hair out. There's some dick moves that have a Kaizo feeling to them, like getting stuck in the rope over the chucks or having to be big to progress through a level.

  • You really shouldn't feel like this isn't beaten. You did all the legitimately hard levels on pure skill without savescumming. This last level presents no legitimate challenge, it's just constantly screwing with your controls in an unpredictable way. That isn't challenging, that's just asshole physics. It isn't testing skill. Like someone once said about a rather infamous stage in an infamous game: it's JUNK.

  • Well, this level (and the hack overall) was utter shit. Aesthetically, palettes weren't great and levels were made haphazardly - oh hey! let's use cement blocks all over! Didn't even bother to make new graphics for custom blocks. For gameplay, the gimmicks were terrible. Futzing with the player's controls is a bad way to go, and that's most of what he did. Difficulty is hard to balance, and he failed miserably. And then spamming some areas with enemies/projectiles ...

    Really glad this is over.

  • This goes from impossible to ridiculously impossible very quickly.

  • "How am I going to deal with this here...? Like THAT! By getting HIT in the KIDNEY! My favorite organ which is why I keep like donating it to everyone I know because I want people to share my wonderous fantabulous kidney!" :D

  • You have every right to resort to rewinds in a stage like this. Interface screwing is one of the cheapest excuses for fake difficulty there is, in my opinion, especially when the wind changes randomly without notice. It's hardly even difficulty, it's more luck based than anything, which is pretty shameful for a game that prides itself on being so legitimately hard.

  • Don't feel bad raocow. This game is definately too hard to be play 'fair'. If it was meant to be played fair, it was poorly designed. If it was meant to allow save-scumming, then you're cheating by the standards of the game.

Either way, all that can be said is you aren't masochistic enough to try to do the completely unreasonable. Sure, beating this game fair and square would be an accomplishment, but not exactly one you get anything out of.

  • lol, the last time I was that ticked off at a level was while playing Prinny 2. When they give you 1000 lives the start, it's not because they're generous. :/

  • I'd forgotten I'd read about the random-wind aspect of this level.

Also THIS IS A HORRIBLE VERSION OF THIS MUSIC!

  • I dont care if you use rewind Mister rawrcow.

  • You call it a video game?! I call it torture in the form of a video game! I can't get past Lv. 3 without save states, and am stuck at 7 even with them XD The fact that you beat the game, even with states, is surprising. Either that, or I am just amazed by something that actually has SMW skills. I love the game and have played it a lot, but am definitely no pro.

I look forward to what comes next, even if it is an easy game. Your commentary is hilarious~

  • I am totally fine with the save-states, and even if I wasn't, there's nothing I could do about it and your commentary was a great nostalgia trip. =P

  • raocow, next time when a hack - especially an Asian one - says it is hard...just believe it, yes? Save yourself the trip to Hell. D:

Great job none the less. Some day you'll come back and kick that levels sorry ass.

  • No!!! Raocow didn't beat a video game in the exact way I wanted him to! This legitimately hurts me as a person!!!!!!!!!!!

Sarcasm aside, I do want Raocow to know this is probably my favorite video title he's ever had.

  • Okay, the wind is ONE thing. SEEKING BULLET BILLS and wind is just...

Fuck you, game-maker-person. Fuck you with a RAKE.

  • "Please be forgiving"? That level was just...I'd be better off playing Kaizo.

  • So the final level was basically everything plus random wind? I have to say this hack had some great ideas, but it forgot the most important thing in a game, being fun to play. Really glad your done with this.

  • aww angry raocow.. lol

  • This is completely retarded. You don't just casually add mechanics like this to a flawed game engine like SMW's...

  • The game is called Sadistic Mario. It's only appropriate that it would beat the player.

  • I totally agree about the wind. I'm willing to accept constant wind, because you can just consider the normal game as having a wind with 0 speed, and as long as the level is carefully crafted to be similar to normal levels it works to throw you off your game a bit but not get frustrating. But to have it change around randomly everywhere is just stupid. I thought at first the posts would mark wind changes as if they were the magnets, but nope. This is like in an FPS, your gun randomly explodes.

  • @ZellMurasame

As an example of a game that used wind well: Donkey Kong Country 2. It would shift, but with clear indications, the leaves blowing everywhere.

  • Come on, raocow. You're exaggerating with the new video games being too easy. Winning their levels or whatever is more of a 50% or more chance, unlike this level done legitimately despite its less than 1% chance of winning.

  • I'm honestly glad this series is over. I love my Raocow, it's a happy part of my day, but seeing you upset like you've been in this series is...depressing. When you struggle against hard games like the VIPs, and beat them back, it's wonderful! When you are bullied into doing something you don't enjoy, it's sad. I like a triumphant Raocow, not a defeated Raocow. You do what you need to enjoy yourself, don't let bullies like Anonymous Bloodlust give you a hard time!

  • @MrOrbotron

    "Bullies"?

    Please.

  • Raocow scared me today. ;-;

  • This was your best series of videos since YEAH!!!

  • 4:50 I GOT TROLLED SO HARD. also, funny how you said 'aaaa'

  • dgf hhw, raocow. We know how much you dislike them taking control away from you, like this "wind".

  • When I first read that he didn't beat it, I honestly thought he was gonna Rage Quit in a way similar to that Touhou game ...

  • Well, at least that's over with. lol I would've thrown in the towel long ago. :P

  • "AnonymousBloodlust you can go F yourself"

Wait, you mean the same AnonymousBloodlust that was harassing you during your VIP4 playthrough THREE YEARS AGO?! He's STILL a thorn in your side?

  • @ShinyMcshine technicaly we're friends, so yeah, he's still throning up my sideways.

  • @raocow the titoe of this video doesnt make any sense

  • @raocow your friends with a enemy thats like me:)

  • Wow... so sad when a game that has some good points end likes this... Just ruins the whole hack experience.

  • if you beat this level i wouldve been stunned. this is beyond kaizoesque. i enjoyed this a lot, but its your lp so if you wanna wave the white flag then thats fine with me. i wouldve done the same by now.

  • Salty raocow is scary

  • Oh man changing >wind< randomly with no indication whatsoever then hide it under a other name I AM THE SMARTESTS OF MANS

  • I fought the game and the (beat) game won.

  • how does one complain about unfair level gimmicks when the name literally has the word sadistic in the title?

  • See, there's a way to do this without it being stupid. You have the 'wind' visible, of course, but you change it so it's metal things. Frying pans and buckets and stuff flying this way and that. <.<

  • I hate when they use artificial difficulty like wind. If they made it obvious where the wind was by making it visible or by making it change direction regularly it would've been more acceptable.

  • I'm not all that concerned about whether you choose to use savestates or not, cowrao. You should probably pick an easier game next time, though. I don't think another hard hack while you still have Nitroid to upload occasionally is a good idea.

  • But there remains one open question: Where was the bullet generator in this level?! :P

  • I'm totally using "sheepful" as a unit of measure from now on.

  • Anybody else notice that the minute he started using rewind his commentary pepped up A LOT?

  • @Ocson I noticed he got a lot more frustratedly sarcastic if that's what you mean

  • @Idran But he did seem like he was getting less depressed and angry. :)

  • @Ocson Actually, it sounded annoyed, sarcastic, and cynical to me

  • One day raocow..One day. You'll come back to this game with many many more hardships under your belt. May be years, may be the next life, but you'll come back and you'll show this level who's boss. And we as your loving fans will be there when you do. I remember your older videos where you pushed yourself for what was 'hard' back then. This is pretty damn unfair, but in the years to come, i know you'll face way worse. We still love you, good cow of rao. We'd rather you keep your (in)sanity. D:

  • Oh jesus, that level was pretty mad.

I can understand that you have used tools!

  • Would just like to point out that this ROM has for it's target audience gamers that enjoy getting frustrated and killed. Saying that this level had bad design, saying that the wind is too unfair, adding unneeded difficulty whatever level it's in, just won't do; it goes against the whole point of the ROM. And saying that the game isn't fun just because Raocow got frustrated at playing it won't do either. The S in the title stands for "Sadistic", remember? If I liked pain, I would enjoy this ROM.

  • there's no way that this castle was designed with the assumption that the player wouldn't use tools

  • Wind is just a difficulty crutch. It's a lame thing to add and makes me instantly hate any level it's in. It's just not fun to play.

  • Sure hope ya play a good videogame next time.

  • Thanks for play caorao.

  • Dammit S.Mario, a few days ago when I was saying "you know what this hack "totally needs" is wind" I didn't think you'd actually take me up on that... oi...

  • my god this won was soooo fynny

  • Maybe you should take some time off while playing Hyper VI?

  • I knew, that the lauhgteer would come after the last level :D

  • I thought we had that four letters five letters thing going on. D:

  • No objections here. There comes a point where the amount of fun is not worth the difficulty, neither for us, the viewers, nor Mr Raocow. It's called Let's Play, not "let's obsessively finish things even if they aren't fun or worth it"

  • "Ya done good, buddy boy." :)

  • Who saw that "a" lock? It was unexpected.

  • Glad this game is over with....

  • You can only do your best Rao!!

  • Good Level Design. That final level didn't have it.

  • video games.

(that was a nice shout out you gave to ABL, by the by.)
