  • thnxs i learn so much in this video

  • these fricken flowers are soo perfect. the planes are perfect, the rotation, the timing, it all goes perfectly. This man has what we call flow.

  • 6:16 my jaw fucking dropped. That is just, awesome, cool magnifico you are awesome!

  • hahaha the lab coats, but this guy is so good I am starting to think the lab is real.

  • like a peacock in d desert ... make the fetters feels crazy with d sand n d sun

  • Thank you for the informative videos. Particularly all the talk on theory. Well done, sir.

  • absolutely wonderful

  • Just wondering do these tricks work with poi that have tails?? Everyone I've seen do them has sock poi (or similar) and I wondered do they still look good with like spiral poi?

  • should this be hurting my shoulder? :S i never learnt to do flowers and i jumped in straight to this video and went to see how i would cope... I haven't quite got the hang of spinning them split time while rotating the arms split time, is this an essential part of spinning poi flowers or is it just a particular variation and not a key principle? It would be nice to know.

  • @jluvsmetal Haha, i was wondering if it hurt my shoulders too. i got it down, i think i was just forcing it at first.

  • Comment removed

  • @jluvsmetal Careful with your shoulders, it's easy to injure yourself jumping into these motions before you have the flexibility and muscle memory that comes from lots of practice. And definitely warm up before doing lots of full arm rotations like he does. I recommend practicing with arms only first - check out the 'Poi-fu' stuff on the Playpoi website.

  • Thx for the great post I have been getting back into poi since I bought my fire but I learned flowers in 1 day off this video very cool

  • Aw you were bald hahah

  • dude, you rock. seriously, pretty much everything i've learned about poi is from all your videos. just sayin thanks!

  • Dude you have awesome timing I've always had trouble with flowers but this tut helped rekindle my eagerness to practice it. Thanks!

  • <3

  • Thanks Nick for helping me so much. 8 months spinning, and still in love with poi as much as i did the first day i picked them up

  • I'm getting dizzy!

    Definitely need to practice more!

  • I like how he keeps looking at himself in the mirror, stage left.

  • you always make it look so easy.

ive been spinning poi for a couple of months now, and needless to say, i'm hooked. it's one of the best releases of energy outside of sex as far as im concerned. i know a ton of tricks at this point, but can't really move around as freely as i'd like to. this video should help immensely.

oh yeah, i recently bought my first set of fire cathedrals from home of poi, and i tacked on you're tutorial dvd if nothing more than a way to support you and what you do. thx!

  • Amazing flow, you just gave me a new goal. Thanks for posting.

  • Nick!! in the min. 3:31..when u explain to move poi forwards as ur arms go backward..and then you "like magic change" the poi movement as one poi go forward and another back..how you did this change??, I have problems when i try to change direction of pois i have to stop to spin one poi front while the other spin back..how you do this??

  • I tried poi once and hit myself so many times I gave up.

  • @rekkuzo87 i also were close to quitting because of all the hitting (heh that rhymes) but i tell you, don t give up, as soon as you straighten your planes and stop hitting yourself, a whole new world opens up for you. Poiplaying really brought some awesome quality into my life. so keep on trying. there are also a lot of great tut vids here, basically everything i learned i learned from theses vids, be patient, hit yourself a lot,... thtas the way to mastery, its inevitable

  • lol meenik is soo gay. And i say that with total respect. I just think its funny.

  • You show off a LOT. but nice vid. lol

  • Question Meenik ......What did yew have in ur poi ???

  • from 147 on is just dope

  • I need help getting gigs to spin fire as a proffession anyone know how to do this?

  • @Daavisonfire try reading through the forums on firetoys.com or look for a performance group near you who are hiring? best of luck

  • He has two shadows...

  • @TaruMNKz There are two light sources.

  • YOU! are amazing sir.

  • hey meenik i have tried the hyper loop the way u have shown is there any other way i always find my poi being stuck wen i try

  • Awesome. Thanks much.

  • get some lights on them and u got yourself a real life visualizer

  • are those balls in socks? Poi to me (im maori) is a light ball on a string. You are very good though :-)

  • @jellybee68 - yeah same for me, was looking for long poi dance moves for my daughter to learn with her new poi and we see these - not expecting stuffed socks at all LOL

  • This dude is a badass!!!!!

  • Blooming brilliant and so mind boggling, my arms are out of control, just cant seem to get the co-ordination, totally agree about the being free part, im so from 1 pattern to the other but then your so limited. This has let me see endless possibilities. Great tutorial but will need to watch it a zillion times i think.

  • poi sucks. glowsticking is better.

  • @incompletesentence They both suck tech poi is where its at XD

  • @incompletesentence

you so fail. glowsticking is an entry level to poi. like when you buy a microphone and call yourself an emcee. glowsticking wraps and orbits= cakewalk. poi = artform. educate yourself brah.

  • thank you so much

  • This is incredible! You make it look so easy. I'm going learn how to do this.

  • excellent

  • How long have you been spinning? You are the best I've ever seen, absolutely mesmerizing

  • son lo mas cali colombia soy un aprendis mas saludos y grasis att jhon theiby m a

    b.boytheiby

  • and i thought i had every variation of flowers thought of :o butterflies never even occurred to me XD

  • thanks for making the video! It was definitly helpful. I've had my poi less than a week and I've already started learning so much from your vids. XD

  • great video... This vid really opened my eyes to possiblities for movement and transitions if you will. I've always felt very locked into patterns but this video made me see that getting a flow can be much easier than it seems... so thanks to the creators :) Excited to try some new tricks.

  • You make it look so easyyyyy! =/ lol damn thats annoying. I know i would knock myself out if i tried any of these moves haha thanks for these vids tho.. very helpful ! :)

  • thanks for breaking this down. ur movement is so fluid love it!!

  • @NoGumms88 I completely agree that there's nothing spiritual about poi, and I can't pretend I don't secretly roll my eyes at people that tell me it's a path to spiritual enlightenment.

I do love it, though. It's fun, can look great, and it isn't any more or less "productive" than most other hobbies.

  • You, my good man, are a MASTER! I love your videos and the inspiration they give me. I've been Glowstringing for a little while but I'm really getting in to the Poi style more and more. Your videos really keep me going. Thanks again!

  • Haha, lurkers. Great lesson. I've been having quite a bit of trouble opening my plains up. Now that I can see it, I think it may be easier.

  • Ok gonna go out and give this a go now. Thanks Nick!

  • meh

  • Hello :-) Are you using the swivel poi? Just wondering; looks easier on the wrists.

  • THANK UUU

  • Wow, not use to seeing your hair sooo soooo short o.O

  • You are just so awesome at this. You can always tell when some one has put there time into something. Your very talented. Im gonna get a starter kit and try. Thank you for posting this video and giving such great tips. I can't wait to start myself.

  • @SkeyeU Poi starter kit=2 tube socks+ 2 tenis balls. haha. thats what i used, started about 2 months ago and just got my first set of fire heads yesterday.

And to you nick, is there anything thats physically possible that you can't do with poi? lol, only thing i can think of is a fully isolated 3 beat weave, and even then your pretty close. Gotta say, you've helped me sooo much.

  • hahaha Poiticapate. I want more video's like this. this was awesome. Where do you buy the poi starter kits. And where did you get your poi kit? It looked awesome!

  • I got Poi Balls when I went to Hawaii. These are almost as fun as twirling batons. Almost.

  • That's it, I quit. This is ridiculously amazing.

  • wow, you're great! it looks fantastic! and thanks for the tips, it's much easier now!

  • Considering these lessons from beginning poi has made it so much easier to learn poi thanks nick!

  • This video is going to take me to the next level; thank you very much

  • so i think i just busted my brain stem. Seriously i didn't realize all the potential in just learning flowers. I'm definitely gonna jump on those now.

  • Thats a really great tutorial. Damn, why does it always look so much easier than it is!! Hehe, I'm not completely useless when it comes to Poi but I do get a bit messed up with all these planes!!

  • Dude, I've been watching your tuts for about a year now and I went from just knowing beginner two beat weave to inverse flowers 5beat weaves behind the back, etc etc!!! I guess i just want to say thanks for teaching me how to poi!!!!

  • your lisp is so cute. plus i really wanna learn how to do this :) is there any video that you have that just teaches how to do a basic spin without them knocking.?

  • Very helpful, answered lots of questions...THANKS

  • what would it be called if you attached poi at the end of a staff...

    pretty much like this

    @---{========}---@

and spun the staff while spining the poi

    im gunna make one lol

  • This guy is amazing with the way he teaches. I've learned sooooo much from his videos!

  • really good....

  • tank ooo!

  • Thanks so much!!!

  • compound circles are sexy but look sooo confusing @.@ gotta give it a try!

  • Y CUAL ES TU JUEGO MAS DIFICIL????'

  • agree.. it was really awesome. . haha thanks xD

  • this one is particularly helpful! THANKS again Nick :)

  • yrrrfckinhelluh

  • Trust me it happens all the time... = (

  • haha i have no idea how he does this, but wht if you accidently hit your self in the balls while doing it lmao :D

  • @wisconsinskater09 I found when I was learning my planes I was hitting myself in the balls more than anywhere else on my body... unless I was doing corkscrews, then it was my head -.-

  • I have a question what are u using i know that u use rice but what are the things u are swinging socks or something else cause im using long socks and hacky sacks can u msg me ack asap before it hits christmas and thanks for the help in the vids:)

  • Otimo!!! parabéns...

  • very helpful thankyou

  • how long has he been doing this

  • 1:53 to 1:58 pretty funny

  • haah showooff how long have you been spinning? Im so jealous of how damn good yu are haha How did yu learn???

  • @streetracer0701 he has been spinning poi for like a million years lol

  • lol this is taking me forever to learn!!!

  • this has a really hilarious intro!

  • THIS is the gateway to so much more for my poi practice!! I'm a dancer who recently started spinning poi and definitely a bit frustrated with the lack of flow I had... This opens up so many possibilities, and as you say, MOVEMENT! Thanks so much for taking the time to explain this so very well, I'll be studying this video for weeks to come! <3

  • ...and what a compound circle is, ehm, and the reason i got into this...

    ?

  • ive got some of those!!!

  • watch some of nick's, yutas, or nevisoul performance videos and you will see that there is productive quality in them and they are very creative. I recently started choreographing routines to songs and I would compare the choreography to composing a song or engaging in any creative endeavor for that matter. I ahve seen performances that are like works of art...at least to me.

  • Some of us both play with poi and are musicians. This helps us realise that you're a snob, because they're both creative outlets and both very different. You're narrow-minded, that's all.

  • @Wombatovich Not narrow minded. Inspired by vision.

  • @Wombatovich amen to that

  • @NoGumms88 If only closed minds came with closed mouths. The world would be a better place.

  • @chaoticpyro13x Lets be honest here... If there were more closure, or focus into a productive venture, the economy would be a better place.

  • @NoGumms88 If that was an attempt at discrediting poi as a "productive venture" it wasn't a very good one. Just because you don't see the beauty or talent required in it doesn't make it any less prevalent.

  • @chaoticpyro13x Beauty and talent? Do you also like watching people spin rainbow colored umbrellas? I bet if I smoked a bowl I could find some meaning in that too... or is that not prevalent enough? Well, maybe it would be if you give a hippie a computer and a "Poi starter kit=2 tube socks+ 2 tenis balls" ---- hahaha. Like an infant with a mobile.

  • @chaoticpyro13x word to NoGumms88. Like my fiance says If Your a Human, Grow a Brain.

  • thanx for opening my eyes !!

  • sweet! thank you soooo much for posting this stuff online...!!!

  • this guy knows wut he is doing

  • how is this a tutorial? thats just showing what he can do!?! just because I see someone juggle doesn't mean I can do it.Seems loke a lot of hoopla over 2 socks with tennis balls in them.

  • i learn from watching just fine...

  • HOOPLA!

    >.>

  • Well he shows you the techniques behind the flower patterns. He explains it all in the video, if you pay attention, you would hear it. He tells you how to spin it, he shows you movement and everything.... sooo basically, that's a tutorial.

  • When you are actually aware of your body making it move in fluid ways IS a spiritual journey...the physical is the temple for the Soul...try it - you might like it!

  • Is playing piano just banging on strings? Come on, you can make fun of anything that somebody else likes. You could say that soccer is just chasing a ball around. Of course it's silly if you look at it that way. People like poi because it's like music in motion.

  • some people just dont get that there are endless forms of creative expression! and not everyone expresses creativity in the same way.

  • @meenik Luvs.

  • @meenik Perfectly put; I've been doing poi on and off for the past two years or so, and the rhythm of it (with out without music) is more relaxing than anything else I've ever done.

I find that whenever I'm stressed out, a short, slow poi session calms me right down.

Also; thanks for the in-depth and, clearly, well thought about tutorials; really giving me the confidence (not to mention the knowledge) to expand my poi-universe.

    P.L.U.R - Peace, Love, Unity & Respect.

  • @meenik

    Thank you!

    Happy circles mate. <3

  • @meenik *football

  • what kind of a hobby is watching videos on youtube and commenting negatively on other peoples hobbies? if you only knew how difficult it is to do what he does you might gain some respect. nick woolsey is amazing.

  • Just because you have no interest in it does not mean its not spiritual. Its a form of expressing yourself and it makes a lot of people very happy. maybe you should try it.

  • @NoGumms88

Did u just hit yourself one too many times with your poi you got pissed? Aww..Poor thing!

  • @sndseen freethinking fairies

  • @NoGumms88 ya that person teaching definitely looks like he is at a rave. come on, grow up. its fun, good for you, and looks cool to most people. is their a reason not to do this?

  • @NoGumms88 IT looks cool :D

  • @NoGumms88 keep your negtivity to yourself. who said anything about it being spiritual? and just so you know ..you know nothing about poi. its about dancing with fire. if you think its so easy then please do us all a favor and set your tennisballs on fire and give it a go..let us know how it turned out for you. burn mutha burn!

  • whoever jumped through the hoop in the begining had such gorgeous dreads!!!!!

  • I wanna hire him, so he can teach me. :( But he cost to much i aspekt. :(

  • so thats the secret

  • at 5.37-5.38 what is this move called? would love to learn it

  • personnally I know a lot of people ´doing´ the pois but this was the best vid I´ve ever seen.

    extremely nice attitude

  • Wow, this guy is so relaxed with the poi. I've only just started learning and I've got my own set arriving in the post. I'm nothing on this though!

  • omg that's so beautiful! i've just started learning poi and i love the way you teach it! such freedom!!

  • i have to say it look better when they are on fire and its dark :)

  • does anyone know where i can download some decent poi lesson videos

  • 2 ziploc bags. 2 socks. 2 things of rice a roni

  • balloons work better,

  • good teacher, thank you

  • Youre the best teacher ive had and its on a computer screen lol

  • wait so to make a flower make an extension then slow down and have the poi spin and then extension again?

  • such an amazing video - you give hope to us who haven't got so skilled yet :-)

  • wow, im SO learning poi, not sure where to buy poi stuff from, and it looks amazingly hard, but im still gonna try =)

  • Home of Poi I have used them for years they are brill bootiful poi and good servce lots of products....

  • well if you go to walmart or any place like that you can get a pair of socks and two tenis balls and put the balls in the socks and use them thats what i did to start

  • fuckin sick

  • where did you get the poi you are using there?

  • They are socks.

  • one of the first poi videos i ever saw, still a great video to watch.

  • trippy...

  • im impressed thankkkkkkkkkkkkkkk you very much!

  • This is amazing ! i cant wait till i have a pair or my own!

  • Can anyone tell me what the music playing in the intro is? It's great.

  • its by ivan tucakov

  • ahhhhh. I never thought of these possibilties. I'm getting right on them! lol. :)

  • fantastic control and smoothness. i hope to have even half you poi skill someday

  • DUDE does anyone know where i can get pants like that? they are weird, but ive never seen any others like them

  • google "MahaDevi Design" i don't know your gender but they have a bigger selection for females. "Phoenix Rising Designs" and click the 2nd google result link. and last "Buddhaful" all of these have some cool clothes, hope this helps :)

  • lol i have SO much to learn...

  • geniale!!!

  • great lesson! i have been working on this for awhile, i can do compound circles on my right and left wallplanes but cannot hold a synchronization of petals for long.

  • in my opinion the answer is in the antispin thing, because its just this patterns you gotta know to hold the flow wherever your arms are, cause its all isolated, istn`t it?

  • That's something i just have to train. Those flowerpatterns look stunning.

how long does it take to get the hang of them?

    (I learned a ruggy 5beat weave in 2 days)

    yours, Anton.

  • WOW! incredible

  • oh my golly gosh, you are the nuts! Can't wait to try this in the morning when I'm sobre!

  • Could you apply these movements to nunchucks

  • I used to do pois in primary school. Good times. Wish I could find my old pois though ):
