The problem these days from what i've heard is that they dropped the guitar and bass down a half step and I guess that's why it makes it harder for Scott to adjust.
@Mathemoto that doesnt make any sense at all, its easier for scott to sing lower pitches, he just doesnt take care of himself ie. smoking, prior alchohal abuse, not a lot of vocal excercise during creeds disbandment. Scott is riding off the fame that creed once had. If creed just began today, they wouldnt be anywhere as popular as they once were
@ChubbyPK Partly you're right. But all the creed songs were made after his key, and now they changed it. Such a little different from only a half step can change so much. I'm not defending him, he's a terrible singer but the understanding why they changed key for all the songs is beyond me.
It makes me sad to hear how well Scott does in this video and then realize he's totally auto-tuned...I have nothing against the man, but he simply doesn't have it any more, and the live clips show that, it's sucks, to be honest, he had a more than decent voice at one point.
@DirkJV Dude, just take a look at these other live clips of him doing the song, they're all vastly different performance qualities than this one, and this one happens to be in a studio setting. Coincidence? I think not, he is most certainly using vocal correction. Again, not knocking him, I like Creed and I like(d) his voice, but he's simply lost some of the edge.
Scott sounded Awesome in these AOL videos, I think when he gets in front of a big croud like on the "Creed Live" DVD he just pushes to hard and strains his voice.
In the beginning, back in 1955, man didn't know 'bout a rock 'n' roll show, 'n' all that jive. The white man had the schmaltz, the black man had the blues, no one knew what they was gonna do, but Tchaikovsky had the news. He said, 'Let there be sound, and there was sound, let there be light, and there was light, let there be drums, 'n' there was drums. Let there be guitar, there was guitar, let there be rock, and there was rock..And it came to pass, that rock 'n' roll was born... Long Live Creed
Yes, as long as it's not completely shot. It just takes twice as long compared to just learning how to sing correctly in the first place. Like any technique, if you practice it incorrectly for years it makes it exponentially more difficult to shake those bad habits.
Definitely it sounded like he tried to hit the high note in the bridge section and just couldn't. He took it down an octave after that, which sounded fine.
theres no autotune, he sings sharp at points. the sound quality is very compressed which is throwing sound artifacts into the mix, on the vocals, guitar and drums, but nothing to show any evidence of autotune
well, it's been generally accepted that he blew his voice in the studio after this while working of Full Circle, honestly, the past few shows haven't sounded all that bad, you just have to accept that Scott isn't what he used to be
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Isn't what he used to be? No offense, but he wasn't that good to begin with. Just a poor man's Eddie Vedder. That's not even a high note, for a normal voice. Granted, if he hurt his throat in recording that's one thing, but you're trying to say he lost his ability that he USED to have?
He has an amazing voice. get over yourself. Creed is sounding better than ever. I saw them in concert and they were simply amazing so learn to keep ur shit hole shut.

i saw them in concert last saturday and scott stapp wasn't nothing like he used to be. He had no rasp or power behind his vocals like before. It was just terrible so you need to learn to keep ur shit hole shut fuckin jack ass
well...i think its pretty safe to say...he was auto tuned in this cuz theres no way someone could go from sounding as good as he does here being able to hit all the high notes...to making us cringe when he tries em in just 1-2 months time
I find myself enjoying a lot of creed's songs; not so much because of the lyrics, but because of Mark Tremonti's composition (with the lone exception being One Last Breath which is an excellent combination of both). The intro to this song is a good example of that.
For all you guys who keep saying Alter Bridge is better than Creed you are right but also wrong...Creed was one of the best bands of the 90s and early 2000s and im sure if they kept it together they wuld have been just as good as alter bridge. after all it is the same band just different lead singers.
Cuando Scott se acerca a Mark, la energia de Mark no es la misma que la que da con Alter Bridge, el sabe que con Myles en alter bridge tiene un compromiso mas grande
I think Scott's voice sadly seems to have lost some OOMPH... He's just singing really clean now, without that growl he used to have. Myles Kennedy can sing rings around him. I wonder which band is the side project now?
You're all really dumb!! They're just focused on the music. You think they would have gotten back together if their heart wasn't in it and they would rather be doing something else? Scott is just the most vocal about how happy and excited he is. That's how the others are, not a big deal!
And they actually sound better than they used to so got no idea what hell you guys guys are high on.
They're jamming out, and Mark Tremonti belongs in Creed, this is him at his best....him in AB is too much.
mark said in an interview that no matter what happens this year (on the reunion topic) ALTER BRIDGE IS HIS BAND and all steps being taken will be for the good of AB..... these are the man's words himself. not mine...
I'm so glad to be able to have the chance to see such a wonderful band in concert like Creed. I became a fan just a year ago and was so worried that I wouldn't get to see them in concert, but I was wrong. See you Sept. 2nd!!!
i sincerely wonder if every one other than stapp are getting any enjoyment from playing these old songs since they're millions of years ahead musically than they were back then.
You're getting that feeling because you're looking for that feeling, like a lot of people. I've seen videos from days gone by, and from the 3 in Alter Bridge, and they look exactly the same, Tremonti vary rarely looks happy when he's playing because he's concentrating, it's the same with any decent lead guitarist.

How does Mark make that cool riff at 1:55 - 1:57
mortorn 2 years ago
harmonics. hammer on and off of a string and run your fingers along the string softly by the pickups. It will pick up harmonics by the pickups.
1JdA1 2 years ago
Thanks, will try that :)
mortorn 2 years ago
oh and one more think make sure u have distortion and lots of gain. Its easier on the bigger strings. Treble helps to.
