hi i have an asus maximus 3 formula, i7 870, 2x4gb corsair xms3 ram 1333mhz, gainward gtx460, and windows 7 ulimate 64 i am haveing trouble with the board reading correct 1333mhz ram and size it says 1066mhz and 4gb where as windows is reading 8gb but using 4gb please help thanks
I am going to be putting my rig together next weekend- Antec 1200, i7 860, Maximus III formula, GTX 285 (for now) and a Xigmatec Thors hammer. This is a good video to get me started on overclocking!
@DJBACON8D Hi, sorry my english... I have the same CPU what determine the max temp? At intel site shows the tmax is 72,4 but with the stock intel cooler the CPU reached 79º on cores without overclock is it normal?
@DJBACON8D I want to overclock mine, but did you actually get a performance boost in gaming, or just work? Please answer honestly. I read that there is no difference between an i5 and an i7 for gaming, so an i7 OC can do what more? Thanks for replies!
@SuperAzproductions there is obviously going to be a difference in work. and it depends, there are tons of different i5 and i7 processors... some i3 processors are better than some i5 some i5 are better than i7. but it is worth getting an i7 for future games, and a majority of current. i have the 860 and it is great!
@SuperAzproductions : The i7 handles multi-threaded applications, video encoding, and is equipped with better memory controllers than the i5. In most gaming situations, you won't notice a difference. There are some games which have started utilizing multi-threads, however, and more will in the future, so having the hyper-threaded 4-core processor will be beneficial for a few years at least.
If you are just purely looking to game, the i5 is a great value.
i use 191 BCLK @ 4.2 Ghz, temps idle +/-40º Water Cooled

What does the A20M function + virtualization do? And should I enable or disable them when overclocking?
webdigo 1 year ago
Does this work with the i7 870 also?
victor555117 1 year ago
@victor555117
Should. Depends on your mobo.
My i7 870 with hyperthreading on takes 1.35v to get to 4ghz.
Takes less than that is hyperthreading is off.

Mine:
Intel i7 860 + MSI P55 GD65
CPU @ 4.01Ghz (20 x 200.5) (4C/8T = HT ON)
QPI @ 7.22GT/s
Corsair XMS3 DDR3 Dual Memory @ 2005MHz ( 8-9-8-24-1T)
CPU Cooling = Corsair H50 "Push" w/ factory Thermal Paste
*I have Arctic Silver 5 lying around but just wanting to try how the factory one performs.
LinX "100" Pass!

my temps are way higher at lower speeds i must have used to much thermal grease

Thanks for this, Im buying that MOBO and Prosessor too, so now I know what to do when Im gonna overclock it. I think 4Ghz is enough for me =)
TechLogin 1 year ago
I noticed you changed the QPI frequency, why did you do that?
I have only done a small overclock (3.5 ish) only by raising the base clock to 160 but my qpi is about 9500 in cpuid

I can run 4ghz at 1.33V but the little booger is really stinking hot so i run 3.9ghz at 1.312V topping 75C full load.

Thats too hot. Turn HT off and lower your voltage a tad.
Do you have push pull fans on the rad?
