I don't miss this one but I do the first one I had. This one was all full of mouse crap and piss with chewed wires and stuff. There was almost no rust outside the car but it was all rusted up inside. I sold it and it has since been parted out
@chevy385 ahh dam that sucks you had to scrap it. My Camaro was a rare jewel, It was driven by a 75 year old man who bought it new in November of 88, it was an 89 RS with the 305 and automatic. Nearly mint condition, a Mexican hit me and totaled it :( I miss her
only cost me $200 and I sold it for $500 so I made out ok. sadly it only had 91000 miles on it and the outside of the body was nice. but all the wiring was chewed and the body rusted from the inside out. so RIP but it's parts are out there somewhere ;-)
Well DUH it sucks air, that is what running engines do. The timing is set to stock specs and the starter is a fresh rebuild. But thanks for the tips.
Aren't you the same guy I was talkin' to on another video that posted a video about a "broken 305", a rod had tore thru the side of the block & oil pan?, if you are that same guy, I remember talkin' to you & you were sayin' you were gonna drop in a L69 in your IROC, is this that motor?...
yes, that is what I did. I use the TPI intake, etc, manifolds(which are a lot better than the Monte ones), everything to make it an EFI engine. Put the stuff on a dropped it right in
The "dual cold starts" on the L69 305 were heat passages on both exhaust manifolds that assisted in warming up the choke on the Q-Jet, but on the Monte Carlo SS, the L69 305 didn't have that function, only a SINGLE cold start heat stove similar to the LG4 305 which also only had 1 cold start heat passage on the passenger side exhaust manifold , the L69 in the Camaro had dual cold start heat stoves, 1 on each exhaust manifold with a graphic on the air cleaner lid that said: 5.0L H.O.
They ARE called "cold starts", as stated in the GM repair manual, CHILTONS repair manual, & the HAYNES repair manual, they are called "cold start heat stoves" you didn't understand that cuz you said in another statement & I quote: "not sure what "cold starts" are & when I looked at the title of this video, it says: My 86 Camaro with it's "new" L69 305, but the engine in this video is really an LB9 305 cuz I'm lookin' at the Tuned Port Injection Intake runners...
I have never EVER heard of them being called cold starts. Heat risers and heat stoves, yes. My car has an L69 engine in it. I will bet you every dollar you ever made in your life. But apparently you can't read so I will write it again. The engine in my car came out of an '86 Monte Carlo SS which makes it an L69. It was the orig engine from the car. I will even get him to take a photo of the RPO code. The engine I took out of my car was an LB9. Should I write that one more time for you?
You already clarified that your engine is an L69 that you installed TPI on, so that squashes that, you didn't undastand that's why you're still clarifyin' your engine is an L69, you told me it was when I asked you did you put TPI on it, what I was talkin' about was the "cold start heat stoves" & I know the L69 engine comes in the M.C. SS & 5.0L H.O. Camaro too, but in the 83-86 L69 H.O. Camaro, the L69 engine had dual heat risers/heat stoves as you call them that's all I was sayin'.
Then why all this going around and around about the engine I have and these stupid heat risers? You call them your thing and I will call them mine. Done, end of story. I know what they are and why they are there. I know what my stuff is and you know what your stuff is.
The LB9 305 had Tuned Port Injection, The L69 305 was not TBI, but Carbureted!, with a Rochester Quadrajet 4bbl carburetor with dual cold starts with dual cold air induction snorkel hoses running from the both sides of the air cleaner to the top/front of the engine compartment, the LB9 305 TPI was rated at 200hp, the L69 305 was rated at 190hp
As I stated a couple comments up, the L69 had a feedback Q-jet and was rated at 190HP and 240ft/lbs torque and it NEVER had EFI on it BUT the same engine with the EFI in '85 was the LB9 and in '86 the TPI engine was still the same long block as the L69 except the cam and induction. Not sure what "Cold starts" are but the L69 Camaros did have the dual snorkel air filter(not sure about the Monte SS). The LB9 TPI engine was rated never rated at 200 HP, it was 215HP in '85 and 190 is '86
Correct, the L69 305 was rated at 190hp, but I saved a video posted here on youtube from Motorweek stating that the LB9 TPI 305 was rated at 200hp, but different sources have different ratings for the same engine MAYBE DEPENDING ON THEIR INDIVIDUAL DYNO SESSION & sometimes, the cc's of the combustion chambers on the heads were the difference too besides the cam & induction cuz I've seen the combustion chamber size on the same L69 heads VARY BETWEEN THE CAMARO & M.C. SS, between 58 & 64 cc's
My '86 LB9 and L69 were identical in almost every way, the heads, cranks, pistons, rods, oil pan, block, and even the head gaskets. The cams and EFI were the only difference on mine. So, the 190HP L69 with my TPI added would make it the same as an '85 LB9 which was 215HP GM's factory ratings for these engines were the ones I wrote down since they are the important ones.
Not only that, you have to remember that GM ALWAYS underrated their engines, yes, the GM factory ratings are important since they are the manufacturer but Iike I was sayin', different sources MAY have different ratings for the same engine depending on their individual experience, BUT motorweek used GM's ratings & if they used their own ratings, they would state that in their article or video as well as compare their ratings to GM.
with the stock peanut cam LB9 the engine was rated I think 195HP/285ft/lbs torque. With the L69 and nothing else changed it should be 215HP/275ft/lbs torque if I can ever get it to run right. I need to get the stale gas out of the tank...
The LB9 had more power than that, i think you got the engines mixed up because the LB9 is tuned port injection and L69 is TBI, the TPI in my car has 230 horsepower and 300 ft/lbs of torque, but it also doesn't have the peanut came because they stopped using those in my car (1991 trans am)
Nope, nothing is mixed up.The L69 is a carb engine which is what this one was before I got it.The LO3 is TBI.The LB9 had lots of different HP ratings. In '85 is was 215(the L69 and LB9 were identical except for the TPI and carb)'86 was 195. The peanut cam was a flat tappet cam, anything after 86(87+)was hydraulic roller. Your car being a 91 has a speed density EFI system whereas anything older than 1990 was MAF. The SD system and dual cat setup gave your engine the higher HP and TQ rating.
i guess ryguy440 asked the questiong because the engine name for a 305 TPI is "LB9" not L69, and L69 is a 4VHO which im guessing is a high output TBI (Throttle Body Injection)
is it manual?
(i swapped my old 305 out a year ago, cuz i threw a rod, for a new 305 with a minor cam upgrade, and just swapped the TPI intake over to it, its still running like shit, lol
Nope, the L69 was never fuel injected. Always had a Q-jet on it. An electronic "feedback" Q-jet. In 1985 the LB9 and L69 in the Camaros were identical except for the induction. In 1986 the LB9 had the peanut cam, but still otherwise the same engine as the L69. The 305 TBI engine was the LO3 and it was not around in the Camaro until 89.
Dam I miss the Camaro I had :(

That's an LB9, not an L69.
NintendoGuy99 2 years ago
@NintendoGuy99 Wrong! Actually it is an L69. It was originally a carb engine from an 86 Monte SS

Sounds to me like it sucks...period. :-)

Why yes, yes it does.

that was me and that is the engine. the rod actually cracked the block and saw some daylight through the pan, yes

That is why I did not get that. They are not called cold starts, but off the top of my head I can't think of the correct name right now.
