They're keeping the sequel under wraps, my neighbor who does visual effects for a company in LA says he did some CGFX for Goonies 2 along with fifty other special effects people.
For all intents and purposes, the movie is in the can.
The completed movie has been shelved however by Warner Bros until unknown litigation issues get resolved.
Clearly it's not an issue of hoping for another movie, my neighbor has the check stubs from "Goondocks Productions LTD" showing his pay for working on the film.
They can't release the movie because of contractual disputes between unknown persons and Warner Bros who owns the rights, the very same thing has in the past to other finished movies, delaying release for years upon years, google it.
Sometimes I just wish there was no such thing as lawsuits, Goonies 2 would have been due to hit theaters this Christmas, but as it stands now, nobody knows when it will get released!
Of course, its still all just a big tax writeoff for Warner Bros! :(

I had an idea for a sequel that would've included the entire cast, including the Fratellis, but also included some new characters... treasure hunters who want to try to recapture "One Eyed" Willy's ship that is now still sailing the oceans.

Now he WAS joking about the academy award thing, but not the sequel. Richard Donner even said he was going to be the executive producer in an interview that rottentomatoes posted because he would be too old and tired by the time the project got fully started.

I doubt it will ever happen but I'm glad that a majority of the living cast still talk about it positively despite having varying amounts of success, especially Brolin.

The Goonies has a vast audience. It isn't limited to those who saw it when it first came out or the little kids of today. I'd say it's all across the board. I definitely know that if a sequel came out with the original cast, I'd be at the first in line to see it. <3

yeah, it was a happy ending. but it was also 25 years ago. a lot of things can happen in 25 years. The Fratelli's get let out of jail and want revenge, the goon docks are in danger again, a death (Mikey and Brand's mom?) can bring them all back, a marriage, etc. I for one am all for it if it is with the original cast (and hopefully with Donner too).
I hope they're gonna do it. I mean sure there all grown up, but that would give it that original feel. Not like what they're doing with the Karate Kid remake... I mean Will Smith's son as the star & not even Ralph Machio as the sensai, that like when Rocky killed the series with Rocky 5 (at least Rocky Balboa cleaned it all up)

The question is will the sequel to The Goonies be as good as the first movie I guess we will have to wait. I was born in 81. I grew up on The Goonies. Also a big fan of the movie. I have a copy of the dvd. The Goonies was a great movie with some unforgettable lines. The Goonies is also one of the greatest movies from the 80's.

If they actually get to making it I am all for it. It will obviously have a lot of 30 - 40 yr olds in the movie theatre. I think the younger kids would like it too though, every kid likes adventure films.

The Goonies has a vast audience. It isn't limited to those who saw it when it first came out or the little kids of today. I'd say it's all across the board. I definitely know that if a sequel came out with the original cast, I'd be at the first in line to see it. <3

there are rumors though on the net and facebook.but for brolin i think it would be a step back.for feeldman it would mean and actuall job with and actuall "solid" script. as far as sean astin go it would mean work with big time directors.but personally i think feeldman should have stayed awayfrom movies after the 80s was over.same gos for cory haim.

yeah, it was a happy ending. but it was also 25 years ago. a lot of things can happen in 25 years. The Fratelli's get let out of jail and want revenge, the goon docks are in danger again, a death (Mikey and Brand's mom?) can bring them all back, a marriage, etc. I for one am all for it if it is with the original cast (and hopefully with Donner too).
